I did it for a long, long time. I got so tired of Valkyrie I learned to live without. Am I little behind because of it? Sure, probably. Am I having fun with the game now because I was prepared for stuff like this a little? Yeah, absolutely.
Indeed. I ditched Valkyrie for months because I wanted to use a more enjoyable team. I’ll ditch the necros too.
Ok, I have read all of this, and I am interested by the debate… for obvious reasons: See Avatar Pic
It seems to me that the primary argument is that soul generation during PvP has been sorely reduced by the nerf to Valkyrie. This is a fact that nobody can deny.
However, the argument then loses integrity by saying that, and I am paraphrasing, you “deserve” to gain souls while PvPing. Unfortunately this is NOT a fact.
One of the things that provides replay value to GoW, for me, is that each of its modes is, whether intentional or not, better suited to focus on particular resources. You need gold, fast? You PvP. You need traitstones? Time to Explore.
You need Souls? You build a devoted Soul Farm team and take to your favorite location. Could be challenges in Broken Spire, maybe Explore, perhaps Casual PvP to earn some decent gold while grinding. But it is up to the individual player.
I understand the frustration, I miss my lady in all her former glory too, but these changes are really beneficial to the game as a whole. And the simple fact is, if your focus is fast-kill PvP then you are designing and building your team to do that and therefore CHOOSING to NOT earn increased souls.
While anybody may “feel entitled”…
There is no guaranteed entitlement… in GoW… or in real-life…
Sorry to disappoint.
On a much lighter note:
@killerman3333
LEVEL YOUR TROOPS!!!
IT’S FREAKING ME OUT!!!
You can still get to the 40 soul cap with valkyrie in pvp, it may take an extra cast but people dont get less souls than before.
The reason people wanted it to change was because of the monotony of using Valkyrie. They changed it so that now you need 1 of a couple of poor soul generators plus 3 poor necromamcy troops. It is a bigger restriction than before if you want souls.
Two personal observations in regards to the changed Valk, unchanged play style:
- I seem to be getting slightly less souls than before.
- It looks like maxing all new troops each week will still allow my stockpile of souls to grow rather than diminish.
I guess that puts me into the Neutral slot.
Please just stop. If you’d truly read AND comprehended this entire thread then you’d know that 1) we don’t need another “get over your entitlement” post because 2) that’s not the issue we’re upset about.
I disagree completely with your statement, here’s why. This was supposed to be a simple "nerf to Valkyrie. Instead your argument (and truth) is that now we have to go to explore mode if we want souls. WHAT? You’re correct you do, and that’s the issue. Everyone else can choose to do anything else they want to do and still be rewarded for it. The devs changed the whole dynamic of the game for those that hate pvp. Now I have to go play a mode I hate for souls?! It was a flat out nerf to soul gain, among other things. The worst part of all is they made these changes right out from under us, and tried to pass it off as a simple Valkyrie nerf. It’s not.
Also for anyone saying oh you can’t win as fast in pvp anymore big deal. It is a big deal. This is another added nerf. If you can get 500 trophies in the amount of time it takes me to get 250, that’s another Fking nerf!
The simple fact is we (soul gainers united) need better troops that are viable for pvp. Instead we got handcuffed and thrown in jail. Handicapped at its finest.
The 2.1.5 thread going around trying to list new troop teams you can use for farming souls is hilarious. Everyone there is giving team compositions that barely work in pvp. They even say as much. You have a whole community trying to think of ways that these troops are viable and they aren’t. They fked us so hard. At least tell me before you caress me.
As black rhino once said, LMFAO.
Furthermore in your argument you say this is for the better of the game. You love to do different game modes, but here’s an idea, not everyone does. This is a click and match game, not a full-fledged mmo. How many times have the devs created something for the people that hate certain game modes? So yes, I do deserve to gain souls in pvp. Since pvp is the #1 thing most people do in this game.
Difficult to call it a soul nerf when technically you can get way more souls than ever… but you have to use garbage troops.
I see what you’re saying though, essentially it is a nerf unless you comply with boosting those troops usage to balance a charts graph. Seems like a poor design choice to me
First of all @ogunther, I was not trying to be insulting, I apologize if my post read that way.
Secondly:
Your statement here is that you feel that changes needed to be made. But you felt rather than a Valk nerf, the devs should have implemented a buff to several troops making others troops as “valuable”, which in this case mean specifically soul gain, as Valk.
The problem with this assumption is that despite all the argument around the forums about how GoW is no longer a chess match, it IS still a STRATEGY game. And one of the inherent components to a strategy game is giving up one thing to gain another. I need a stronger defense, I guess I’ll lose some strength, etc.
Valk was an amazing soul generator, arguably too good, which is why everybody is in agreement that she needed to be nerfed, she is still a good soul generator. Her “value” comes from her being a Blue Mana Generator which quickly (only 10 mana) and reliably gets blue mana to VERY Good Blue Troops. It is for that reason that most people are voting neutral. That’s where my vote almost went, but I went ahead with like because I think over all it makes an improvement to the game, because now there are more options, whether you personally like them or not is irrelevant, the options still exist now where they simply didn’t before.
There would have been no way to effectively increase other troops “value” to this level, without breaking the game. Gorgotha should also generate souls based off magic. That would make me happy, I have one of the best TANKS in the game, who can also reliably fill allies (mana generation), and now lets also make him a soul generator. It is too much to give a single troop, they would become OP.
Each troop has its speciality, Valks is BLUE MANA GENERATOR her soul gain was icing. Now the devs have finally taken the spoon away from us and we only get whats on the cake, but at least the icing is still there.
I would be happy, willing, and interested in hearing your suggestions on HOW the devs could have handled it better, but most of the responses have been, and again I paraphrase: “IDK, but I cant get as many souls in PvP as quickly.” That does not an effective argument make.
I do love the thread though @ogunther!
No hard feelings, right?
PVP gives ridiculous amounts of Gold. It also is one of the best places to get Glory and Trophies.
The point was that, if you want Trait Stones, you really HAVE to play Explore. If you want a bunch of stuff at once, you HAVE to play Maps.
Why should PVP bet far and way better than every other game mode? Quite frankly, the PVP system is freaking broken when someone that spends 4-5 hours a day playing this game has ZERO shot to get into the top 1000 on the leaderboards.
I know it won’t be popular but I’m all for them changing things to penalize people that do PVP and nothing but PVP 16 hours a day. Force people to make some choices and accept the associated sacrifices.
That’s just flat out dumb and you know it is. Every game that I have ever played has made changes to make the general population of players happy. Need an example? Destiny. People disliked the fact that you have to do raids or trials of osiris(pvp) to gain the best gear. What happened? They made great gear drop from every thing that you do. You are no longer bogged down from HAVING to play something. The Division just made the same changes to their game. No one should be forced to do anything. Equal opportunities for all. Again, just because you hate pvp and pvp players apparently, doesn’t mean we aren’t people and deserve the same “rights.”
It’s just hilarious that all the Valkyrie haters finally come out of the wood works and you see them for what they are. They never had a valid argument for her getting nerfed. The chart never showed a valid argument for her getting nerfed. There isn’t a valid argument. Instead we got probably one of the harshest nerfs that this game has ever seen. Maw didn’t even go down this hard. They nerfed him for the better. So now we have a troop that was never “OP” and got the sickest beat down I have ever seen. Thanks.
ROFL
I never said I hate PVP. I play PVP all the time. I think it’s pretty ****ing pathetic that honest people have to share the leaderboards with account sharers and the like, but that’s another discussion.
What I said is that if you want to max your GOLD, you have to play PVP. If you want to max your traitstones, you have to play Explore.
Having to play something other than PVP to get max souls not only makes sense, it has precedent in this very game, because Challenges used to be the best way to get souls.
If you don’t like being forced to play a certain game mode to get a certain resource, then playing this game doesn’t make any sense. Gems of War has ALWAYS been this way.
PvP is more important because the game is centred around guilds.
You’re comfortable in your bubble of being wrong, and i’m just going to leave you there. Thanks for coming out.
I’m in agreement with you and just want to add that:
Most people seem to think games being frustrating as part of their mechanic is ok because so many games are designed poorly and thus have anywhere from a small to large portion of their gameplay made up of frustrating aspects. This is simply not true. Frustration does not equal challenge nor fun. Challenge can be frustrating but when designed well, it isn’t; it’s fun. These new Valk changes don’t make the game more challenging and certainly not more fun. They simply make the game more frustrating. People can claim it’s all in the name of balance but this update didn’t balance anything; it simply exchanged one broken mechanic for another. The game is still broken but now it has an extra layer of frustration added on top.
@HKdirewolf I know you are passionate about this topic. And you know I love you, you’re my guildmate after all.
But you DO have the same “rights” as everybody else. The only guaranteed “right” is 4 souls per match.
PERIOD
What you do after that is PERSONAL PREFERENCE. If you want MAX souls, then you need to accept that SPEED will be slower in order to gain them. And your BEST soul farming team, inmo, SHOULD get decimated in PvP because the goals of those game modes ARE different.
PvP should be about fielding the most bad-a$$ team you’ve got that is going to destroy the opponent before they get a chance to even think about what to do. Farming should happen elsewhere, where it is safe for the peasants, ie Challenges or Explore mode.
Much love to you @HKdirewolf
Go Mean Machine!!
PVP is more important because it’s the quickest way to get Gold. It’s called a circumstantial relationship.
If the best way to get massive Gold suddenly became arena, the top guilds would start doing a lot more of Arena, you can bet on that.
The fact that you see this as a completely binary situation says a lot. Either everyone agrees with you or they’re a stupid, PVP-hating, Valkyrie-hating, moron.
Honestly, I thought you were better than this.
Likewise. If you are going to come to a thread to debate, at least bring a brain to think of all sides.
The fact that you all are straight out admitting that you NOW need to go play other game modes to gain souls, proves my point. That’s not just a nerf to Valkyrie!!!
!!!
They changed the dynamic of the game right out from under us!! Do you not see that?!!! Dah hello, anyone home?!
Before the 2.0 update, you HAD TO PLAY OTHER GAME MODES TO GET MAX SOULS.
Do you even think before you type?
