POLL: How do you feel about the Valkyrie changes?

maybe that should be the poll - i dont use her, i used her for souls, i used her for transform… that would help the devs see why shes so “overplayed” @ogunther

To be fair, Sirrian can now post a chart let’s say a month from now and give us the data on how much she’s still used. This step allowed them to see how much she’ll be used now without necromancy. It would have just been nice if they gave us alternatives on even par with Valkyrie as replacements.

The question at that point though if she’s still used almost as much is, do we “nerf” her then? By upping her mana cost? I hope not.

Valkyrie isn’t the problem, the dev team’s obsession with blue is the problem. Her spell does a grand total of zero damage to anyone. How can anyone say that is OP?

That’s just it, they “nerfed” her so we’d spread our wings and use other troops. The problem is those troops aren’t good, not even close to her. So now we just gotta hope there are some good troops coming down the pipeline at least on her level.

Lady Anariel, so far for me, is working well and I would argue she’s superior to Valkyrie. She’s not a pure blue filler but because she generates two mana colors, she’s getting me a fair amount of extra turns. She’s also filling Khorvash for me AND she’s nullifying his one lone weakness - he has relatively low Life in comparison to his other attributes.

If it weren’t that I still want the souls, I would be using Lion Prince exclusively in place of Valkyrie.

Anariel is good, but not as reliable as Valkyrie. (Plus, her colors are totally different, and she blocks her own Blue). She’s a viable alternative, for sure, but I personally greatly prefer the safer converters over generators.

Yeah, Valkyrie is safer but Anariel has the bigger potential payoff. In addition to the benefits I’ve already mentioned:

  1. She’s blue and purple - the purple can be easily uncovered in a Khorvash deck, meaning she’s not as hard to fill as one might think, no matter where you put her.
  2. I use her in the 4th slot with Queen Ysa in the 3rd, so the green isn’t going to waste. And Queen Ysa makes up for the lack of Valkyrie’s mana generation by just giving everyone mana when she casts.

If you really want blue overload, put Valkyrie in the 2nd slot. It’s a very strong build that way. However, I’m trying to build for speed, so I’m using Lion Prince in the 2nd slot. Since he’s an exploder, he helps fill everybody on top of the damage he does. And he only explodes one row so it offers potential extra turns too.

It looks like the voting is staying pretty consistent at this point. Dislikes are in the definite majority with Neutrals coming in close behind but Likes are less than a quarter of the votes. I’d be curious to see how this changes over the next few weeks assuming the Devs don’t adjust anything.

I am not hurting for souls, does it bother anyone that none of my troops are level 20?

I desperately need souls, so I like how the new troops, not new, actually, but you know what I mean, have necromancy and that the cap is raised on souls, but I’m still early game, so making a troop who has served me well less powerful is, frankly, a letdown. Very. Long. Sentence.

Why would the levels of your troops bother anyone? That’s between you and you.

Actually as kingdoms are constant between troops, levels of the troop throw off soul creation comparisons, as players have different levels of troops which can bias how many souls a troop should be able to make. It effectively shows that valkyrie is in the middle of the pack for soul creation when without kingdom bonuses, she is at the bottom of the pack. Also completionists would be bothered by my unleveled souls and want to level them for me depending on the completionist.

Completionists care about their own progression, not yours.

Can confirm. Do not care about @killerman3333’s progression.

That is why i said depending on the completionist. That was to avoid a blanket statement about completionists wanting to have everything complete even if it is not theirs to complete.

“In this case those that pick neutral/don’t care means they were unaffected at all with Valkyrie before (pre nerf) as well.”

Not really. Balancing things is what a continuously developed game does. If you get worked up over it, then you just haven’t seen it enough. I got over it after a few years of playing EverQuest. So, when HearthStone or Gems of War or whatever does something in a way that forces me to change my game, I just look at it as, “Well, that was probably stale, anyway.”

The main point I see that those who are neutral or like the change make is “Valk needed a change” as an excuse for the tact the developers took. Those who don’t like the change aren’t arguing with this point; everyone thinks something needed changing. What we’re arguing is that the changes made were poor and not well thought out from a players perspective. Instead of nerfing Valk they could have brought other cards up to her level. This would have left Valk alone for those that liked her the way she was and given those that don’t like her real alternatives. This is not what happened and is why we’re upset.

It bears repeating because you aren’t the only one making this incorrect assumption:

Everyone is in agreement that something needed to be changed!

Our disagreement is in how the devs brought about that change; ie. poorly

I’m seeing reports of players earning more than 300 Souls in a battle.

Makes me wonder how awful these changes really are.

I leveled all my Troops earning barely 100 Souls a battle.

Total souls in a battle by itself means nothing without knowing more information. If they’re earning 300 souls but it takes 5x as long to earn them as it used to take to earn 100, that is not an improvement.
