No. Said salty as being salty not you other wise I’d put an @
I still got bit of love for you x
Thank you, so it’s double cost.
That is a staggering amount of gold! Access to LTs will evaporate for all but a very few guilds.
I guess RE: “cosmetics don’t make much for small games like GoW”:
- Are titles, emoji, and icon packs not motivating purchases enough to justify their costs? If so, can the devs stop spending effort and money on them and focus on things that’ll sell instead?
- Is the bling that Epic Levels give to troops not motivating players? If so, can we remove some UI complexity and do away with it?
- Are cosmetic pets not motivating purchases enough to justify their costs? If so, can the devs stop spending effort and money on them and focus on pets that inspire players to move units?
I’m just really confused here. It’s all invisible numbers you can’t show me. The team seems interested in cosmetic items, so I don’t get why your company line has to be you aren’t considering it. It’s “a small game” but I can’t name many other games that are on three consoles, mobile, PC, and Kindle Fire without thinking of names like “Zynga”. That’s incurring some horrible dev costs, and in the past I believe you’ve countered my examples of what I like in other games with, “Yes, but they probably aren’t on multiple platforms, that keeps costs down.” Huh.
It makes me think of that one tweet meme that was going around a few years ago, it went something like:
As mentioned before, titles, emojis and icon packs are very quick and easy to make and implement versus other cosmetic items. They don’t make a huge sum of money, but they are worth the small increase we see versus the time it takes to make and release them, which is faster overall.
I would also like to point out that my coffee habit is expensive and probably more akin to several thousand dollars a day and I need it in order to survive, let alone work. That is where our excess costs are coming from. I don’t know how you all didn’t realise. (Hey hi hello just confirming that this is a joke before anyone jumps down my throat.)
IMHO, it’s far more likely to be choice #3: Revenue has slipped and the publisher is pressuring the devs to come up with ways to get the playerbase to spend more money. In the past that was accomplished by adding more layers of progression, but that is no longer working. The only alternatives they see involve taking away existing in-game benefits and then setting up some way to gate them.
GoW grew well beyond original expectations, and now they’re trying to figure out how to sustain themselves at current financial levels, and it may not be possible. It began as a Steam-exclusive game, remember, and the console platforms were an afterthought (with those built by a different dev team using a different engine, to boot). Development costs grew further when they decided to support the Switch platform, and I personally have no idea what their player and revenue targets have been. We could actually be paying the price for that platform being basically a fail.
I don’t think there was ever an idea that any player could get literally everything for free. There might be a very few in the top-tier guilds who have managed to pull that off, but it’s so few as to not have any measurable financial impact. When the crafting system was implemented, following incessant player demand for it, the idea was made clear that devs were giving F2P players a way to target a few specific things they might want, but it wasn’t going to get anyone anywhere close to everything.
There was also a time when Sirrian and his team interacted much more directly with players in this forum. That ended quite a while ago. I have long since given up trying to read his mind.
I disagree with your opinions about getting everything.
If I put a stopper on updates at the end of 2017, when I was really leaning in to GoW, I technically “have everything” now in terms of what I aspired for then. Sure, I’m missing about 5 mythics. I’ve also got 8500 diamonds and growing. I don’t actually want the mythics I’m missing because I’d like to save for one that somehow keys fail to deliver to me.
Even fast-forwarding, raid/invasion didn’t slow me down. I still got those troops to mythic. Delve isn’t slowing people down: a lot of peoples’ step 1 is getting a full set of mythics with the chaos shards they’ve been collecting from constant grinding.
All said and done I’m right where I expected to be as a 2+ year player. Except now there’s more junk, and most updates post-2018 have involved such a long progression curve I really question if anyone will achieve it. Before that, I admired GoW enough to spend occasionally as a hat tip. Now I’m not even sure how spending money translates to progress.
Anyway, forgive me, my “everything” had quotes around it and allowed for statements like “given that I will play for another year” etc.
I bought horse armor, twice. As a tip. Never used it because horses in oblivion…
Maybe “stop taking things away while shoving players towards the shop”?
The first year I played GoW I spent more per month than I spent on the subscription I pay for a MMO, in large part because the game was truly “the perfect F2P” game in my eyes. There was always that feeling that with enough time and dedication you could do/get everything.
That feeling has been gone for some time now, and my play time has slipped along with it.
While the devs have posted that the playerbase has continued to grow, that really doesn’t mean much on the off chance you’re correct and revenue is down. I think it’s equally as likely that the publisher is just getting greedy and sees the killing that the more manipulative F2Ps are making, and wants a piece of the pie because they know that enough players will pony up.
We now know, thanks to Salty, how much it will cost for the total new epic tasks, ~5.2mil per statue. Roughly double (as assumed) of what currents tasks are.
Most of the items from the tasks, from what are previewed (showing/giving total amount of rewards form the tasks would help, maybe, with this) are entirely garbage for end game players. That is entirely who this is aimed at, based on the above gold cost per task.
Now, I am in BD, 1 of the top guilds on PC/Mobile. We will still be able to finish all tasks, but will only be able to do a few LT a month now if thats the path we as a guild decide to go down. Keep in mind we are a top guild. Mid guilds wont ever see a LT again. The people who most of these resources help, are in low/mid guilds.
As to the statement that people have been asking for these resources, I believe you are twisting what is being asked for.
Shards/Treasures, this was asked for, but for high end treasure troops to be able to level hoards to help the delve issue that is continually being ignored. Lower treasure troops, which is basically what we get a lot of from shards as well as troops themselves, are not the issue for end game players, and as such this just hurts/annoys those end game players.
Ingots. ONLY Epic Ingots are wanted. New players are encouraged by a lot of older players to set up a farming faction, so that they can get Mythic and Legendary Ingots as well as the gold and all the other resources from delves, at a level they can complete easily enough to not cause any issues for them.
Pet Food issue stems from lack of pet gnomes, which in turn stems from everyone doing explores, easier solution is add pet gnomes to explore as well, and this would then solve that issue, as well as allow those that are against the PvP system (some just do not like it) to get more pets.
Tokens, everyone wants tokens, but its high end tokens people want. Giving us low level 1s will not help much as they are more common anyway.
Writs we know nothing about, so therefore cant comment on them really.
At the end of the day, while this may not make everyone quit that is spouting it, it will destroy guilds. As others have said, people will jump to try and go to guilds that can get LTs, and as it stands, end gamers can not keep up that pace forever, it will simply cause more burnout. And before you say that you dont have to complete everything, the issue with that is that adding things to the game that arent intended to be completed because of too much to do, is kinda pointless. Time would be better spent refining or fixing other areas to engage more players there, than go well thats not working, lets add in X, they might like that. Or even Well they liked X, so lets change it slightly and re add it in as Y, surely they will love that! No.
I dont want to judge the patch too harshly until it has been released, because over the past 5 years I have played some patches that have caused issues have ended up bettering the game, but at the same time, you have effectively killed an entire section of the game, removed 1 of the most valuable items in the game, and then gave us effectively nothing in return. If you truly are set on doing this change, then cost to rewards needs to be changed so as to make players feel like it was an even trade off, because as it stands, its not an even trade off, its not even close.
The new tasks are not worth their weight in gold. How can u charge that much for those rewards?
If you really want to do some favor to new players and mid tier guild, how about reduce gold requirement of guild tasks and then add another layer of this epic guild tasks? Slash this gold requirement by half, making it roughly 22.5m in total / 750k for every guild member in a 30 member guild, then no one will be complaining.
But I guess dev team won’t take this as an option, because they’re so desperate for money.
I have an easy solution.
Keep the tasks as they are, and allow more than 30 people per guild.
Going by the recent statement that the average number of matches played by players is 26 per day, and that Sirrian thinks that’s too high, they don’t want us to finish, they want us bogged down with 0-value rewards and never reaching LTs. Since we’re playing too much, they’re moving the goalposts. This is one of the most anti-consumer moves I’ve seen outside of an EA published game. I’m over being speechless about it, but my disgust hasn’t even peaked yet.
Just to remind what happened:
- there were tasks that we can do unlimitedly
- then devs found/decided that some guilds were getting too much free resources
- so they remove the tasks for the current Guild Tasks
- players complained a lot and then devs added LTs
In resume, the real mistake that devs did was to listen to the players and added the LTs. They would have avoided a lot of riots each LT’s nerfs…
5.2 million for most if not all of those statues are way overpriced for the resources you’ll collect. I can’t believe anyone on the Gems of War team thinks this is a good idea. Literally flabbergasted right now. Looks like this is a full blown Pay to Win game now…so unfortunate.
I’m inclined to doubt we’ll be heard by anyone who actually makes decisions on all of this. We’d do better to ask for guild leaders to be able to lock out tasks as a guild management tool. If we’re going to have to decide which to get done each week, it’s a lot less headache than kicking someone for doing the wrong task “accidentally” to just be able to actually SET priorities rather than SUGGEST them with some spotlighting visual effect.
I totally agree with this message. They the Devs seem to be pushing all to purchase with real money if we’re to get the Legendary or Mythic troops as no one in the lower grade guilds will have a chance in hell to get to LT’s… Devs need to think twice before bringing out this new update, as this will only be suited for a Whale, players with money to burn…
This is absolutely absurd. Players have been accusing the Devs for months/years that they don’t play their own game, are you simply trying to confirm this for us?
31 million gold for those tasks is completely idiotic. Who came up with that and what was the logic (or lack thereof) that was used to determine that the market would take it?
You are completely screwing your playerbase, especially the mid level end gamers who do not have time to spend 3-4 hours per day in this game.
@Sirrian you did say that you thought that 26 matches per day was too much, is this how you try and resolve that? Or did we misunderstand you and you meant to say that 26 matches were too little and we should be playing 126 per day?
I have no idea what is going on with the powers that make these decisions but if you are looking for a mass exodus then you are doing the right thing.
Wow read all 305 posts and here is my 4.7 survival guide.
- stop complaining they have already said nothing can be done to stop this, and it doesn’t really sound like anything would have been done anyway…
- fasten seat belt and place your head between you knees (or someone else’s knees… your call) its going to be a bumpy ride
- stock up on Vodka, Tequila, Gin, limes, Tonic water, aspirin, antidepressants and stress balls gotta have all your bases covered
- get some extra coffee for salty she is going to need it.
- update will and double life insurance policy (my GoW account will be left to my cat)
I am now prepared for 4.7
