well actually - in my state you dont have to have a drivers license or a state id unless you want to drive or open a bank account.
I lived in poverty for a while and i can tell you - the 40 bucks to get a state issued id on top of the 40 to get a copy of my birth certificate was prohibitive.
So if you want everyone to have a voter id card - they have to be free and easy to update and all kinds of issues.
also in some locations - people dont drive at all - so they dont ever get a license.
Where Iām from, IDs are much cheaper than $40, and Voter ID cards are FREE. You only need to verify address and sign up to the states website for voting.
What is you rationalization for requiring this? There are tons of downsides and no upside. There is less than 0.00001% voter fraud that this would prevent. I thought Republicans were supposed to be against more big brother government.
Iām not a republican, Iām an Independent. I have voted both ways Democrat and Republican.
Iām a programmer, and develop applications. So my rationale by this, is so we can monitor whether the voter is a US Citizen or not, and does not require purchasing anything for the voter. This should not be a deterrent unless you donāt want to be known. Criminals may or may not decide to Vote because of this.
We could add Finger Print voting machines, and even finger print paper ballotsā¦ where you touch a paper in a certain area with āglueā or some other substance that can apply a finger print without leaving residue everywhere or becoming an issue to the voter.
However if you start thinking from the other sideā¦
Why would you want to block something that can help ensure the accuracy of our elections?
This would apply to every vote, not just presidential.
You are conveniently ignoring everything that could go wrong with such a system. You seem to have already made up your mind that somewhere out there, there is all this voter fraud taking place that this would somehow fix (which just isnāt true) and youāre so eager to give up even more information about yourself to combat a myth. No thanks.
Also, I fully support ex-convicts retaining the right to vote so to me, thatās another reason your idea is unnecessary. In a country that imprisons more of its citizens that supposed 3rd world dictatorships, itās scary that they canāt have a voice. If you want the government all up in your business and have faith that there is no way they will ever abuse that, then you go ahead and give them access to every part of your life. For me, I have zero interest in that world. The amount of information already for sale about each of us is already scary.
Because our elections already are accurate. In-person voter fraud simply, provably, doesnāt happen. Any system to prevent a nonexistent problem is, by definition, a waste of time and money.
As a programmerā¦ I know if something can go wrong it willā¦ To how bad it isā¦ that is un-measurable at this time, but could be measurable with a Better Voting/Tracking System. We need to evolve with the times, not stay in the past.
I donāt know why you keep saying its a Mythā¦ There is proven Voter Fraud, maybe that fraud hasnāt effected elections, but once a āhackerā or group of āhackersā. Iām using the word hackers as people who do not follow the laws/rules. Finds loopholes, they will abuse them.
A simple System where you place you hand on a screen then pick your votes would go wrong? Are you saying that paper ballots are 100% accurate? You must be part of the side that wishes for inaccurate votes.
When someone tells you our elections are accurate, yet cannot 100% guarantee it, then you are living in a dream world where you believe everything someone is telling you. I donāt believe anything unless it is fool-proof. We do not need Illegal voters making votes to influence any election, no matter how small or large that election is.
Anyone who argues/fights against better accuracy of Voting, should be questioned about their motives, potentially investigated and watched like a hawk.
Whether you like or donāt like the government knowing about your life, they already know or can know without even trying.
Almost every intersection in the USA in larger cities has plate readers, along with facial recognition. They know where you are, they can access every bit of data about you, who you buy from, where you bank and even more. Down to what you wore today if they really wanted it.
So trying to avoid the inevitable will lead you to becoming one of the watched. I have friends that work for the DoD, they have some crazy technology that you would wish you never knew about.
However stop thinking about just yourselfā¦ What you think hurts you on the flip side also protects you. The more we know about everyone, the more we can protect against those whom want to do us harm.
As the saying goesā¦ If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.
Iāve already gone over this. Someone already did a 12-year study, and found 31 cases of voter fraud out of more than a billion votes cast. That means our elections already are 99.9999969% accurate. Thatās as good as it gets. Youāre proposing changing a system that already exists and already works - the burden of proof is on you to justify why. And no, ābecause we canā is not a winning argument.
Iām not proposing a change in how we vote, but an addition to the vote. I guarantee they did not look at all 300+ million votes, and the āpictureā or āfingerprintā of every person who submitted that ballot.
When you can cross reference the name with a photo/finger printā¦ you will guarantee even higher accuracy.
ā¦and itās illegal for them to use it without a search warrant. Yay for the Constitution!
ā¦and now your friends may get fired for sharing anything with you. Or, Occamās Razor says that the hypothesis with the least assumptions is āyouāre lyingā and therefore preferred.
When you complete an equally-rigorous study, prove that thereās a need for improvement, and prove that it can be reasonably done, let us know. Barring that, youāre stuck on a position thatās simply logically unsound.
You just ignore everything @Amadan & I have said and just keep marching forward, further and further into scary, crazy Orwellian-land. You enjoy that; Iām going to take this opportunity to get off your crazy train. Later.
Can we please stop filling the forums with all this FUDD? I mean, it takes literally seconds to fact check yourself before spreading lies, people. Come on, be better.
