So at level 200 the game turns to complete BS?

I love all the answers that are like, “Oh, if you’re having a hard time, just whip up a whole new team… or two… or three.”

If your current best team isn’t good enough, getting a new one is a whole process. Pick the cards, hope you’ve picked right, then… keep going with this team that is not working, at a low rate of reward because of the high loss percentage, until you’ve ground out the souls.

I’m level ~120 right now. I have two good teams, with the troops ascended a couple times, taken to max level, a few traits, a legendary to anchor it. I’m working on two more teams and it’ll be a while before either is ready to go.

I used to do arena constantly so I could level up potentially useful troops, but it’s really frustrating since 1.09. I used to get 8 wins most of the time; now I hardly ever get past 4. I get wiped out by players with crazy weapons and that’s the end of that.

& by the same token: when I get matched against a level 60-80? I don’t think it’s a fair fight. I think it’s an easy win. I find it hard to believe that the difference between 200 and 800 is less pronounced than the difference between 60 and 120.

well on good note I believe Dev’s said the wep/hero bonus will be removed from arena and was not intended

Well even if arena was a bug and is fixed there will be something else to moan about that the moaners don’t have and the longterm players do…I have been around to long and it’s a fact that even with a simple game there are just some people that do not play well and far easier to blame game balance than admit that fact

that’s a lot of moaning  to be moaning about lol

Lola, I feel your pain.
I’m level 288. I have been facing level 1000 heros since I hit around the level 200 mark.
And I still remember the very first time it offered for me to fight Mr Sammy and I thought “maybe I’ll just pass up on this one”. The very next day, Mr Sammy attacked me and I had to defend my kingdom.

I got lucky, and I won. In fact, I usually do win against lvl 1000 players, but it is getting harder by the day.
My team isn’t improving as fast as theirs are.
My team isn’t as dynamic as their ever changing ideas.
I can’t just unlock new legendary troops and unlock their three traits in one go.
I’m still fleshing out my dragon team, which has been the only thing to get me over this hurdle the whole time.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

During 1.08, 99.5% of my PVP battles were against players with a higher level than myself.
I took note of this fact, and I almost NEVER was offered someone lower or equal to me.

But in 1.09, things have changed. Yes, level 1000 people got harder to beat, but on Tuesday morning at 0200 (when the new week resets), I face off against level 98 people for 1000 gold reward base values.
As I approach rank 5 on the ladder, the levels go up, and once I hit rank 5 I am facing players with levels 400+ again.

But at least there is variance now.
Mind you, on the next day, when I get all my defence battles, they are all higher level players who found me to be a rich rewarding easy mark. So there’s that, as well.

My advice is to keep trying, keep improving. Eventually you’ll be able to make a second team that kills whatever type of team kills yours. Then you’ll do fine.

Lol. I’ve literally never seen anyone use “half-Sammy” or “full-Sammy”, but now I so want this to be a thing.

Neither have I (except Sammy couple posts ago)

Sorry, that might also only be on our guild’s Facebook page…

At the time the VIP system wasn’t even in place so the only way to level faster was through armor. Even now it is the easiest way, if you join a top guild that is achievable within a month. @MrSammy did it through blood sweat and multiple devices.

Well that, and playing on 2 devices or more at the same time.

I recall seeing it on the old forums too…

Hey there. I’ve wandered over here from the console forums where we are “still playing 1.07-ish, and about to upgrade to 1.085”. Your comment about the Arena difficulty ramping up, and game economy being slow (to level up troops) worries me. Is this the part where the game passes from being fun in the Bejewelled sense to being a not-so-fun, micro-managed RPG chore, where if you mess up your choice of new troops, you’re uncompetitive for the next month until you can scrounge up a new bunch? There’s a reason why I don’t play MMOs: too time consuming.

To play any online game and expect to stay competitive without spending time playing is imho not reasonable. Rewards have to be worked for and that will always have a time factor unless you are happy to spend money. Although even that only slightly reduces the effort required to be effective and stay up with the meta.

Part of the fun with this game is the changing dynamics. Teams that I thought were the end all be all two months ago now seem awful. To me its part of the joy in the game. Traits and souls do make switching teams more difficult, but I would recommend you go after a soul farm team.
Abhorath (or something with big and armored)
Valk
Slime
Keeper

Its a strong team and very playable in the current version of the game. If you dedicate your trait-stones to the keeper and the valk you hit soul cap very very quickly.

What banner do you use for that team? double purple?

I use red/yellow on mine to fill Valk quickly.

I use double purple personally. With two necro traits I’m more looking to just wrap the game up with the keeper

OK, despite all these standard valk, slime or other builds with lots of legendaries in it, i show you a team of mine, thats
(Pros)

  • very easy to get
  • no/less traits needed (some the 1st/2nd ones might be nice, esp. the yellow mana boosts)
  • ofc you need lvls

What i can say about the team: You can beat every team. The downsides might be, thats
(Cons)

  • it is very slow and
  • you have to play (very) carefully/observantly.
  1. Alchemist
  2. Cockatrice
  3. Siren
  4. Sunweaver
  • 2 brown or 2 red banner

Alchs task is to be to mana supporter for cockatrice and sunweaver and to kill all enemies by doin skull damage.
Cockatrice is the best crowd controller, entangle and drain mana (esp. the 1st enemy). Only cast the spell when anemies have full (or close to full). I use siren, to manipulate the board, if i have no 4-match to cast the alch-spell on. (There might be better solutions, but Siren covers the mana, i dont use on the other three). Sunweaver simply boost Alch to a monster. Slowly but inresistable.

With entangle you can easily abuse the fact, that enemy troop always match skulls before casting spells. You have all the time to recharge your alch to start onther chain.

I espacially desingend that team to counter alle these purple-mass-skull-producing teams in 1.08, but it works against any other team, even lvl1000s too.

To add to this, Sunweaver is an amazing troop in general to let a rather low rarity team keep up with supposed stronger opponent teams.

Another good low rarity option is the all time classic trinity Valkyrie, Alchemist, Banshee Combo.
Endless control and the ability to keep the turn for ages will often make the strength of the enemy team not matter much at all(well other than making the game longer).
Helm it with a stoneskin lead for stability, i’d suggest Coronet Knight for some oomph, Treant is amazing too, but any stoneskin troop will do really.
