'Cause she is awesome duh!
But seriously, while she potentially makes sense in the team it doesn’t even really matter unless you are at a threshold where your Hero+Halfgrim don’t 1,2-shot the Boss anymore.
And even if i were to agree the two last slots matter in R/I (some weeks they really do), that’s still two slots less and chosen from a vastly smaller pool of troops than in GW.
Halfgrim is bonkers so yes, everything matters less this week. Even then the thread of team compositions this week still has a bunch of variation (not everyone auto-uses their hero). My point is that the smaller pool of troops forces people out of their comfort zones. Everyone would just use Megavore/Ubastet/Infernus, etc… if given the option.
I guess just to add one more…given PvP’s devolved meta, it’s kinda nice to have a game mode where you get a break from them, even a repetitious break. Don’t get me wrong, I do like GWs, I just don’t miss them running every week.
That’s what GW does, and it does it right! R/I doesn’t, especially considering your “creativity” gets hampered even more by making status effects and any strategies revolving around them pointless.
The issue of variety is bracket specific. When I was in Bracket 1, I rarely saw variety. We fought the same meta teams every week. And, we used a handful of meta troops to fight those teams.
Now, I’m in a super low bracket, and I can beat those teams with my explore team. There is variety but no challenge.
Perhaps, there is a mid-range sweet spot in brackets that give challenging defense teams with variety.
But that was your choice, probably born out of practicality. It doesn’t mean you had to use these specific troops/teams to be successful they just turned out to be working well and you ran with it, you could have created several very different teams within a given colour being just as successful to a degree depending on the specific colour of course.
But, no offense, there were several metas that didn’t leave you many troop choices in dealing with them when restricted to one color. So, yet again, for me, I didn’t see GW in Bracket 1 as a place to find or use variety.
In the end, various players will have their own opinions on which modes are the most fun, challenging or varied. It’s a good thing that everyone can play the modes they like and ignore the the rest if they choose.
I think, “It’s good that there is at least SOMEONE who enjoys every mode, and everyone has a chance to periodically play events they like” is a good place to rest. I don’t get arguing with it.
As I pointed out earlier, we have so many modes to discuss it’s not likely any one mode is overwhelmingly loved by everyone. This is especially true if we pare away the events like bounty hunts that don’t last all week.
If 99% of the game hated Raid so much they weren’t participating, we’d see it. The leaderboard scores would be easy to beat, because even the paying players wouldn’t be happy to push very hard. Top-tier guilds would stop at whichever portal they felt was “worth it” instead of asserting “we open all of them” is a fact of life. There would be a very large, very organized thread such as we had about Divines, Kraken, or Dawnbringer in Arena and within it there would be one recurring argument.
Instead, we don’t have the signs of consensus. When someone says “let’s make GW the only event”, we splinter off in to 10 or 15 different compromises because even the people who don’t like Raid/Invasion tend to want tweaks rather than elimination. That leads to large, disorganized threads and it’s hard to see a clear, actionable change that will satisfy the desires of everyone.
So it’s a bit of a stalemate. We all agree, individually, each event could be better. Most of us would be happy if we got less of one of them. But there’s no move to make that makes everyone say “Yep, this thread is over now”. No matter which event we promote to “more frequent”, that change will be followed by a just-as-strongly-felt “let’s go back to equal treatment”.
That raises the question, “If you think the discussion has no value, why’d you write so much?” That’s a good question. The honest answer is, “I’m procrastinating some things I don’t want to do.”
I’m not going to dig up the countless threads of enraged players demanding the end of GW for everyone 'cause they didn’t enjoy it to make a point here.
Instead i will just say that anyone that honestly wants to tell me they use less different troops and teams in a week of GW than they do in a week of Raids/Invasion is an insane person in my eyes!
With these super uncontroversial words i leave this thread to enjoy my well deserved weekend, and i wish a fantastic weekend to anyone else whether they like GW or not.
Do you really believe the devs moved GW to once every three weeks because of some players that whined about GW? Those threads had just as many players on the opposite side in them.
No one will convince me that the nerf to GW had anything to do will player desire. The devs wanted to add a gazillion gem sinks to this game. Every new mode has that same purpose. I don’t hate them for it. But, there it is.
Possibly not a number of less differently troops, but other troops, troops they most likely would not had picked for the Guild Wars. I can’t talk for everyone tho, but your opinion is really a slam over the face for those that think differenly and uses troops differently than what you do. Calling them insane, is insane.
I really don’t like any of the Guild Events, myself. GW is fine in lower brackets, but too insane in the high level ones. And, all but the tippy top of the mountain get crap rewards for it.
Raids are boring and I think it’s stupid that your “reward” for beating a strong opponent, is to get a stronger one, rinse and repeat.
Invasions are okay. I like that you do get a reward for each 5 battle stage you complete. If Raids did something like that, I would like them more.
All in all, I just don’t care. You could have GW every week or never again. No skin off my back. I wouldn’t want Raids and Invasions more often, though, due to being sick of buying a troop I’ll almost never use, just because I needed it to do well that week or buying a weapon only because I know I’ll never see it for “free” again. If they did that every week, my Gems just couldn’t take it.
Honestly, though, it’s just “whatever” to me, for the most part. I don’t really play any of them anyway. Hell, i rarely play any of the “new” stuff in this game, that came after the UI overhaul. Lol.
We started at the bottom, and worked are way up. You’ll see in 2-3 years that every bracket is easy until you get to 1. (I know you’ve been in one but haven’t been in the mid brackets).
Personally, I enjoy GW above all other modes, but I think there’s a place for raids, invasions etc to suit other people’s needs and wants. So it makes sense to keep them.
Given GW arguably is easy to run, no additional troops and weapons etc to introduce each time, I’ve often wondered if it can be run concurrently with the other modes. Then people have a choice whether they want to participate.
And I don’t buy the argument that your guild will demand that you complete everything. If you can’t meet your guild requirements, then you’re probably in the wrong guild.
