I don’t enjoy GW. I much prefer Raid and Invasion modes. Really don’t want to see GW more often…
I’d note that Raid and Invasion include gem spends - which must be working well for the game’s business model as we keep getting more of them… so the devs are unlikely I guess to reduce their frequency and put in GW which has little spend triggers… (sentinel bonuses don’t so much)
To play an event for 12 hours straight requires sigils. Apart from the few freebies, sigils cost gems in the event tier shop. When you run out of gems, you can buy more with money allowing further event progress. That’s why leaderboards in events are almost always pay to win. Even p1 in guild wars is insufficient revenue for a realistic leaderboard push in other events.
Outside of finishing in the top 3. Yes.
The guilds that are able to finish in the top 3 tend to do well in other events as well due to the amount of gems they get from GW. They earned those gems don’t get me wrong. But it does give 90 players a strategic edge on the other leader boards.
I do every weekly event (even the map event, collect my hourly tribute – I set a timer other than when I’m asleep), I do all my daily tasks, I try to do maps a few times each day, and I sub to the 4.99 daily gem pack that lasts fifteen days. I save my gems for the events I like the most, like the new Frost Mage, and the weekly delve events. I don’t go for lb every event, and I doubt a lot of people do. All I’m saying is that if you use gems for sigils you are then forced to play and use those sigils, so it takes work and resources to honestly compete for top spots on leaderboards. I don’t consider 12-24-36 hours worth of grinding to be pay to win.
I agree that the gem reward for top 3 placement in wars is a nice boost but it’s gonna take a lot more gems outlay than that to gain p1 on any leaderboard. Top spot requires thousands of gems to get the sigils required. Generally, higher guilds will all chip in with sensible tier purchases in order to close all portals. I buy tier 5 raid and invasion always, but that may not be enough to make top 100 even with a perfect run. Life is certainly tougher in lower guilds and for newer players with limited time. Lower Kingdom levels mean less gem and other tributes so event purchases are restricted until your well into the grind. I think it’s wise to prioritise event purchases that benefit the whole guild instead of bounty or class event that provide individual benefits only. I’ve seen it too many times where a player buys no wars sentinels or raid tiers and then goes leaderboard berserk in an individual event. Sometimes they don’t even bother doing their wars or free sigils which just makes it worse. Working together for mutual gain is a must.
Look at the power orb winner on any event and consider how many sigils it took earn that position. Then consider how many gems were necessary to buy those sigils…we are talking several thousand gems here. It’s very difficult to feature high on leaderboards week in week out without spending cash in some way, shape or form. I would wager that many LB top performers are high VIP but I could be wrong.
Week 1 run GW + Raid
Week 2 run GW + Invasion
Week 3 run GW + Tower OF Doom
Rince and repeat
You prefer GW you, do Guild War
You prefer Raid, you do Raid
You prefer invasion, you do invasion
You prefer TOD, you do TOD
You like everything, you do everything
I agree…B1 wars isnt quick. Before matches there may well be considerable experimentation with new defensive and offensive line ups in preparation. GW weeks are now heavily loaded with additional events. Class event, faction event, daily delve and dungeon plus daily tasks and the weekly grind event (which should be a pvp event to assist team building) are the norm so wars week is certainly not low intensity by any means.
No that solution doesn’t work. There will be guilds like mine, where GW is mandatory, so I have to do it. But I prefer the other events and spend time on those too. No way do I want any weeks with two such events at once. I think most people would agree that two at once is way too much a time demand.
Edit: RDR2 coming out next friday so getting invasion/raid event before GW is perfect for me since i don’t care these event and will put my game time in RDR2
In that hypothetical situation, an alternative solution would be for you to find a guild in which GW isn’t mandatory, right? Obviously, that could be annoying, or make life more difficult for a little bit; maybe you have a strong link or connection to your guild. But it is within your control, and given this aspect of player agency, I do feel that saying, “this solution doesn’t work” is incomplete, or doesn’t take into account other options.
Well no, in this hypothetical situation, that wouldn’t feel like a solution at all.
You are technically correct, yes I am entitled to a decision at this point. Notionally we have a solution. But I cannot imagine many (or any) players being happy feeling forced to even make such a decision. A solution likely to anger and disenfranchise so many players really wouldn’t be a solution at all. Hypothetically.
