I read alot about banners give attack and armor to units from the banners kingdom,
but how does this work?
I just see the mana bonuses.

That was the old system, It has since changed. What you see now is live and intended.

If I can add something to @Teddy’s answer :
You still hear about the previous system as it’s the one running on PS4 and Xbox One.
So you gotta pay attention to who’s talking about what system if you don’t want to confuse them !
