How in the world did that matchup even happen.

I ment you faced a team that is exactly like your own and to my knowledge neither is meta right now so what tomfoolery is this.
You mean my team? I made it at the beginning of 1.0.7, and was actually surprised to find no one else using it. For me it was the perfect team - 5 colors, all team bonuses, good stats and spells all around, and with 1.0.8 it turned out to have some quite good traits. At first it was also the same order as this other guy, but after unlocking True Shot on the ranger I just had to put it in the front.
As for meeting an opponent with the same team, I guess I just got an early taste of this requested feature (or at least that’s what it felt like):
