It’s not just about impersonating someone, it’s also about obfuscating who you are. Some players you don’t want to have in your guild, especially if they were kicked and just try to get back in again in disguise to cause more trouble.
So you couldn’t just create multiple free accounts and funnel honor points to the one account you want to improve the honor rank of?
Wasted effort, it’s not going to work out as long as display names can appear to be unique (e.g. by adding trailing spaces or weird unicode characters that don’t get displayed). I don’t think players actually care about unique display names, they just want a way to tell that “Kafka”, “Kafka” and “Kafka” writing in the chat are actually three different players.
My GoW name is Chris, has been for over 3 years
There have been at least 5 others in ps4 alone
The only people who think I was someone else, are not smart enough to click one more button to look at my stats/guild
This is a pretty dumb topic in my opinion
People expect that common Christian names may be used by more than one person so they may well click again to clarify the identity but I think the op has a valid point that the more unique names could be in some way blighted by the misuse of this.
@Fourdottwoone I understand the issues mentioned I probably just didn’t verbalise my answer properly.
Correct, you can’t just create 500 accounts and honour yourself - that’s not going to work.
We considered how the system may be abused and implemented various counter measures.
I’d just ask that people actually wait until the update is out and they’ve seen the feature in action before freaking out that we made a broken system. Cheers.
No details on what constitutes “abuse”? That sounds a scary lot like Guild Wars Collaboration Reloaded. There’s personal benefits involved, I’d be surprised if it takes players long to successfully exploit this much more excessively than you might ever have imagined.
Weapon upgrades that add detrimental effects, impossible to complete pure faction team Delve runs, sanctioned leaderboard exploits in Tower of Doom, just to recap the most recently introduced and still not fixed systems. Of course people are worried that the streak will continue with this update. Besides, this is the Internet, freaking out is a well established tradition.
