You can use ShadowPlay with GoW? I tried it and it didn’t work. Who did you do it?
Always used it for my old videos like:
First, open NVIDIA GeForce Experience (I do it from the system tray) …
- To enable ShadowPlay, click on “ShadowPlay” top right
- Click the big on switch to enable ShadowPlay (underneath you can set paths and settings)
- Set the capture mode (shadow = backwards capture, normal = capture when hotkey pressed)
- Set the amount of time to capture backwards
- Set the quality of the capture
- Set the audio properties
Then to get to the “ShadowPlay” preferences:
- Click on “Preferences” at the top right of the initial screen
- Click on “ShadowPlay” to get to the specific settings
- Ensure “Allow Desktop Capture” is ticked, important to get GoW captures!
- Set any other settings you wish (like screen settings, hotkeys to activate, etc)
If setup like the above you should be able to use ShadowPlay with Gems of War

OK, so it works. But doesn’t that mean my video card encodes my desktop non-stop (even when not in game)? I’m not sure if that’s such a good idea…
Or is the idea to turn that on every time I play? That’s not much fun either.
Hardware feature using VRAM with zero GPU impact
Can test it using GPU-Z with ShadowPlay enabled and disabled (same GPU load, same GPU temps, same GPU clocks, more GPU VRAM load is all - which doesn’t matter for desktop)!

Actually, I just tested with GPU-Z. It’s not just VRAM, but also Video Engine (about 8%, but still).
Also, the clock speeds don’t go down.
GPU Core Clock (just desktop): 135MHz
GPU Core Clock (desktop with ShadowPlay): 1025MHz
And Power Consumption goes up from 8.5% TDP to about 24%
It’s nice to know the option exists, but not sure if I’m actually going to let it run full time.
Hehe, you got something better to spend that $8 per year on

I’m more concerned about the card’s lifespan than power consumption.
But maybe you’re right. It makes more sense to fully enjoy my options, rather than limiting myself because of some far-off concern.
The card’s lifespan is 2 years, use them wisely.
