Your proposal makes a lot of sense! Default to the lowest level keys each time and then let the player navigate.
I think Devs have it default to the New Event each week to further illustrate the new Event.

Devastated. Just opened 50 out of my 51 precious event chests by accident via remote play. It’s taken me months to save up these and the salt in the wound was it was probably the worst event ever! Settite and anubite warriors. Gutted.
