Are you falling on the wrong end of the Wand of Stellarix meta, perhaps?
Wand of Stars is ridiculous. If you choose the Elemental Stars and even 4 of them pop, you get ALL your mana back (and, often, an Extra Turn on top).
Monolith buffs give you a much better chance against stellariz
