Punishing Journey nerf incoming

Currently if they were an issue in ‘PvP’ outside if Central spire they could have just coded to exclude given they are not player teams.

I agree the double nerf might have been too much, while I’m onboard with the gem creation reduction. Hey, the enemy filled their Seekra/Egris/Chalcedony/Todd, and I actually get to play again without waiting 4 mins! What a concept! Also, now you can’t just cast it mindlessly; you have to wait for better board layouts, as it should be.

The problem is that Journey is a punishing mode on it’s own. Instead of modifying the Journey values early, they went with overpowered journey troops that created a bad expectation of difficulty in the future, and caused problems everywhere else. 10% seems only like a start. I expect participation in journey to be significantly lower for the next couple of ones.

Honestly this change has made me have serious considerations about continuing to play this game… Double nerfing and choosing to do it on the week of the journey event… Plan your nerfs… get community input… test is small increments… and don’t do it on an event that absolutely requires a looping team…

I have put quite a bit of money into this game over the years and it is ill considered changes like this that make me loose faith in the development team/process. If it isn’t reversed/adjusted within the week I will no longer be playing the game going forward as I can’t be certain that my purchases stay as they are when I made them…

I don’t mind the journey troops getting nerfed because they definitely were game breakers. But the journey is a broken mode even with the old troop strength, because the enemies you face scale too quickly and the journey punishes you for takiny longer to kill them. If the troop/color restrictions prevent you from accessing a troop that scales your power, you’re screwed. At a minimum, I think the concept of losing miles for long battles needs to be nixed.

They should look at what they did right with PVP and offer bonuses instead of or in addition to penalties.

  • All 4 troops alive? +5 journey miles.
  • Quick battle? +x journey miles.

Maybe other quirky bonuses like:

  • Have a unit survive with < 5% health
  • Never cast a spell
  • Survive X deathmarks.

Or maybe a random goal bonus stated at the beginning of the battle that gives you 50% more miles if you hit it.

The GWs issue may be a brackets thing. I can’t remember the last time I even encountered a journey troop team (B4 currently).

Books on the other hand…

And when I was a newer player in a lower bracket, before journey troops, goblins were the bane of my existence.

But we have elementalist. I still lose a few fights but if I’d win all of them, I’d guess GWs would be too easy.

Agreed on charges to the event.

Kafka made such a big fuss about how they were changing the event and how they were still finalizing it and how we were all exaggerating - and then the change is miniscule and everyone was right.

Hard agee!

Compare that in most World Events, the amount of loot dropped is announced by its minimum amount (but with a random chance for more) – for Journey, the # of Miles shown on a battle should be the minumum awarded for completing the battle, but with the possibility of bonuses.

Serious question, at the top of the journey leaderboards are there people still winning fights, and getting points.

If there is, then they seem to have a working team don’t you all think

Serious question.

But this only reflects the overall # of wins, it does not imply the # of attempts, guild size, player time spent, or Gem investment / real-money purchases.

Yes ino it can’t tell us all that information.

But it does tell us, there’s working teams.
That’s my point.

That’s not much of a point. Technically, you can beat each fight with the hero alone if you are good at board juggling. It might just take multiple attempts, a whole lot more time and award only a small fraction of the score. That’s a huge nerf in just about every aspect.

Yea that’s fine.

I just thought with the reactions, there was no way to win anymore.

I’m glad there’s other teams, that can win.
One way or another.

i was going to start a topic for this but there is no point really.

do you not think this has been done with the intention to move focus from the other ongoing problems they promised to fix? If they create their own controversy then they can be in the driving seat while looking at the existing problems whilst we forget.

There sort of is no way to win anymore, in the one aspect that really matters to players, rewards. Journey was already the most punishing guild event due its aggresive set of game rules, compensating lower scores of other guild members to still unlock rewards was a very painful uphill battle. Under these new conditions a lot of guilds will just outright give up chasing the rewards, it’s such a huge increase in cost and effort there really isn’t any point to suffer through it any longer.

sadly no, this is just their reaction time to approaching situations. (fix being successful: not a guarantee)

I don’t think the whales and Leviathans are the ones complaining about it.

You get them reasonably regularly in B1. Todd and Seekra mostly.

I can’t say we will miss them.

What’s rarer than them in guild wars though is an extra turn after casting them in this event.

If devs just stopped the level increasing too high and we had a hardcap, or made some synergy between 10 turns and increasing amount of turns allowed at higher level, we’d be fine.

Sadly anything sensible is beyond them. They’ve one objective only. More costs to play.

devs are for money only, why? it feeds their families. Only meaning of this game as free to play is all community in gow did not have to pay real money to play the game. Journey has always been a bad scored aspect of gow, 10 turns really? that might be great at first 30 battles but higher you go in number of battles its basically impossible to not lose points higher number battles a player goes. Its design that way so players buy extra tiers and if they dont have the gems needed for extra tiers well they go and buy gems. Only big problem that we all see but the devs. is players are getting frustrated enough to quit the game so it comes down to devs giving us worst troops in hopes that remaining players reach into our wallets to buy more gems

I can’t say I’ve had the same experience.

I’ve been in a very-competitive PS4 guild for the last year-and-a-half, give or take, one that has always been in B1 as long as I’ve been a member. And I can count the number of times I’ve seen a Pathfinder looper defense on the fingers of one hand. While it’s a dangerous opponent if it can get going, that’s something I’ve been coached and tutored to not allow to happen very often.

However, I probably see 25+ Book defenses every Wars. That’s one thing I absolutely don’t miss during this extended hiatus from Guild Wars, and it’s something I pray I won’t start seeing in the new PvP (colored regions) if the developers ever get around to fixing defense teams.

Interesting. You’d think they would have been in B4 more often. But maybe I’m also just misremembering or always managed to get one of the other fights.

Books have always been way more prevalent.
