The title might seem a little dull, but rather a such title than a title who is screaming nerf, we had enough of those.
As with most things you say, I absolutely concur.
Death mark is overpowered compared to every other status effect.
is wraith too strong?
-maybe.
but one thing for sure. whenever i made a mistake starting a fight with wraith. i go nope… and retreat right away.
every other time, i avoid those team altogether.
besides, it got undead bond. that scares the crap out of me! rather see him with at least stoneskin or impervious
just kidding.
I just faced BD / BD / Death / Death. Of course you have to focus on BD.
I had Mercy charged up at the time but couldn’t prevent Death from getting his spell off. Death Mark kills ALL of my troops except Mercy, no chance to cleanse.
That kind of bull**** is enough to just quit the game outright.
Please give us a CHALLENGE and eliminate the RNG crap. It doesn’t actually make the game harder, it just makes it more disposable.
I stand my view earlier: Wraith can have Death Touch or Freeze Touch but not both. The fix is simple enough; replace either of those traits, perhaps with Agile (annoying occasionally, but fits thematically, it’s a ghost) or Flying (also fits) or maybe a bland Undead Bond or Insulated or something else.
If it loses Death Touch: it’s still annoying, can freeze (which hampers most loop teams which is the best way to deal with Bone Dragon), and still has a spell that can delay you - but you lose the rage-quit-inducing risk of losing a troop to pure RNG, and can adopt skull-bait strategies more freely.
If it loses freeze: yep it’s still annoying and you’ll have to think carefully about letting the AI take skulls, so the rage-quit risk is there, but loop teams become far more viable and it can probably be managed.
I agree with this - sort of - I agree with the sentiment, but not the example driving it.
I’d be happy enough facing that team, haven’t seen it as a match though. Death’s mana cost is so high you must be able to drain it or get a good loop going before it casts. Bone Dragon is the immediate threat, yes, but with no Wraith (haha) there you can skull-bait them - a team with a speedy mana changer should be able to start firing before they do. Unless RNG fills the BD on its second turn, in which case you’re screwed whatever team you brought.
BD filling on the 2nd turn is exactly what happened. I was ready for it but the AI decided to punish my insolence by giving itself one of those “fill Death with a dozen cascades” deals.
But anyway, the point is that ANY mechanic that can insta-kill 3 quarters of a team in one turn, before you can respond, has no business being in a strategy game.
you on console? that’s a little more common there… on steam, that’s very bad rng luck…
I disagree on that; the chances of it killing three troops are very low, and you can usually do enough to stop it before it happens anyway. Same as a game against Great Maw (and not as bad, really) and same as BD with its current broken nonsense math, your game plan is to stop it casting.
I agree that argument applies to BD and maybe EK: a materially game-changing spell shouldn’t be able to fill easily in two turns, or in one lucky turn: i.e. should cost more than 14 mana.
Wont happen the devs are on drugs with their favor of fotm gameplay over strategy, and addicted.
Two Bone Dragons and two Deaths. Mana denial sounds great in theory but it’s very difficult in practice. About the only reliable counter would be Gard’s Avatar. The Silent One would work but good luck building a team around him.
And yes the chances of it happening are small. Which makes it all the more ridiculous when it does happen. It shouldn’t be possible period. Let’s just get rid of troops altogether. Give everybody a red button like a slot machine. Let the RNG flip a coin and declare a winner. A lot faster and gives the player the same amount of control.
The bottom line is that going from 2 turns to zero was a dumb move. It should be 1, it should have always been 1.
The problem with the Freeze + Death Mark combo is that the Freeze makes you super vulnerable to Death Mark going off as you can’t get as many guaranteed extra turns to get mana do something about it (y’know, if you even have a Cleanse available).
