I finally got it, on my first 5x chest, too. Changed my vote (just in case this is still of interest).

I play on PS4 and whoever I click on had the damn Hoard Mimic Iāve even got players proudly coming at me with their screenshotsā¦
I tried techniques like opening 35 explore chests / 35 Mimic Chests (it was long to setup) spent weeks in explore and by weeks I mean all day long 10 hours a day. Until tendinitis stops youā¦
And I got no Hoard mimic. And it feels like Iām the only one around ā¦ Itās actually with diamantina and rubirath the only units that I donāt have ā¦ And right now It makes me wanna quit this game for good after seven years.
