My group is Undead centered and I’d been searching for an undead troop to take it up a level and with her added it was definitely that, but less than a week later and I’m using her in a battle going “she should have done more damage than that” look and I would say her damage output decreased by about a third which in needed to go down by about a fifth. Also feel like Mist stalker is pretty powerful when you consider he can usually take out someone on his first proc and he just gains power as he kills so next proc he can kill another and so on. Idk, I went back to my old troop and am back to winning form. Completely refunded all the souls and trait stones for her too.
Presume she was made available for refund? (edit: but you don’t get the Glory back, I suppose!)
As you know the game better and better you should spot those troops which are clearly over-powered on release… if you cash in at the time and join the crowd exploiting it, don’t be surprised if it gets balanced down again later…
That said - not intending any personal criticism here - I am not implying that you did anything wrong! Just that we shouldn’t be surprised when broken things are fixed… (it’s a bit more surprising that broken things keep appearing, but hey, devs are busy guys…)
Respectfully, I don’t think this is surprising at all.
There exists constant tension between stability and innovation in any living project. On the one hand, players expect a game that is rock-solid, perfectly balanced, and bug-free. On the other hand, players expect a game (particularly a game with continual or periodic payments) to break the mold and try new things in order to retain interest. These goals are necessarily at odds with one another. Especially considering how small the dev team appears to be, it’s not much of a surprise to me that they are unable to test the gamut of permutations the game offers up. Inevitably, something will slip through the cracks as either too powerful, or not powerful enough.
The refund is quite lackluster now, because the most important resources are arcane tratstones and even if you get it back, options to reinvest them, are very limited.
As for nerfs, devs are extremely inconsistent in that regard, Maw and Mab were op for months and totally dominated PvP, yet devs refused to nerf them. On the other hand Astral spirit was overnerfed on the spot and went from damaging troop, that you can stack multiple to board control troop.
Testing for all unusual and odd combinations is one thing, and I agree that we couldn’t reasonably expect devs to anticipate rare broken combos… but there are relatively few options and cards and mechanics in this game, so I’d be surprised if some new genius combo was devised that the devs hadn’t thought of, or planned for…
…more-over though, no tension between innovation and stability accounts for publishing something that is just pure numbers hands down too powerful, as Astral Spirit clearly was…
Yeah but it was nice to farm minor reds with an empowered easy button again…
