(…and no, we’re not talking about Khetar.)
Encountered on: Switch, current version
Description:
Before diving in, note this only affects touchscreen (and/or mouse) input and CANNOT be reproduced with a controller.
There appears to be a “dead zone” on the World Map screen – not the map itself, but the way it’s actually rendered to the screen. Attempting to tap/click on this area has no effect: the game simply refuses to acknowledge it.
Example 1:
- Make sure the Map is fully zoomed out, then tap on Broken Spire.
- Exit that menu, then tap on Adana. Unless you tapped on the very upper half of Adana, the game will not acknowledge it, and the Adana kingdom menu does not pop up.
Example 2:
- Tap on Forest of Thorns. Exit the menu, then tap on Whitehelm.
- Again, the game has difficulty recognizing the second tap.
At first I thought this might be a problem with my system individually, except (1) this is a region of the screen roughly equivalent to a 2x2 space of the battle grid and I’ve never had this problem when battling, and (2) I used the Switch’s Troubleshooting option and confirmed there are NO problems with the touchscreen, meaning this can only be a Gems of War specific issue.
Example 3:
- Go to the Underworld map.
- Tap on Hall of Guardians, exit that menu, then tap on Court of Foxes.
- Depending on where specifically you tapped, the game may or may not even acknowledge this.
Final example:
- Tap and drag anywhere on the screen to scroll the map around.
- Then tap on Broken Spire, exit that menu, now tap and drag on Adana and notice that depending on where you tapped, the map does not follow your tap.
Hypothesis:
It appears that a portion of screen space underneath the Exalted Path icon is reserved for an overlay (Gnome-A-Palooza, daily XP boost) and blocks the game from acknowledging any tap (and/or click) gestures in this region, even when that overlay is hidden.
Screenshots/video:
Due to playing on Switch (handheld) I cannot “just” capture video of this happening, but I have identified roughly where this region is located on the screen and here’s how that looks:
