[Fixed next update 4.2.5] Sudden game crash during startup or loading on Steam client

PC, Steam client, Game: 4.2.0.07, OS: Win 7x64

What you were expecting to happen, and what actually happened:
The game crashed as soon as it started loading. It generated the files.
Steam verification 100% passed. No issues.

How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
Very rarely. But it happened today, after 4.2 update got released? Stability issues?

Files: (not allowed to upload) the files - crash.dmp, error.txt.

Steps to make it happen again
Run the game via Steam.

Hi Koromac, generally crashes are best directed at technical support so you can attach the files. Fortunately this sounds like a once-off, but if it happens again please see Step 8 here:

We’ll need the output_log.txt file immediately after a crash and before the game is opened again

I think this crash happened because of the delay between the transition, GoW welcome screen and the actual loading time was too big, when the game should start to load.
I only crashed two or three times during these 10 months. I’ll create a ticket if it happens again.

Also, note that I had both options, I selected Yes when I saw the message about the crash, but the game was still loading normally, then it was terminated. I still hope that logs were not overwritten, though.

I’m not sure if this is the right place for it but mine has also been doing this with steam since the 4.2 update. It will say an instance is already running 4 to 5 times before it will load. I can’t load it from the shortcut at all (which is cute btw) and have to go to the game page to get it to load.

i had the same problem. what i did was deleting the old shortcut and making a new one from steam
game starts normally since then

Hey the shortcut is probably trying to load the old version, please create a new shortcut and it should work.

I did this and it will work if the shortcut is left on the desktop but when put on the taskbar the problem starts up agian. The pic for the shortcut also changes when on the taskbar to a christmas one.
