Did your alt use Ice Aegis and craft it solely for this event?
Ice Aegis seems to be the crutch of the event, at least when pursuing the higher-leveled battle options. I just couldn’t recommend any of my newer players craft it in good conscience at the expense of delaying Mythics or potentially not being able to craft other important weapons when they come around at a later point. I’ve never really found it to be particularly useful outside this event.
My take is that crafting it on an alt would seem like less of a big deal (more expendable), and I don’t think there’s a precedent for specifically needing to craft something, using Jewels, to do well or even just contribute a fair share of the points required to finish all rewards.
The best compromise strategy I could recommend for any struggling would be to buy an extra Tier or two and take the other battles when Hyndla gets too tough, and/or use multiple Sigils for an Epic(+) battle if she’s the only option and a roadblock. I can’t confirm whether or not this would be enough to contribute fair share for the event or not, though, or how many Gems would be required for a player without Ice Aegis or an important Legendary like Hyndla.
We will just have to agree to disagree. As for the error in the frostfeather, sure, I’ll def give you that one. But is that a barrier to completion? No. I’ll again point to my low level account for how that hasn’t really affected the outcome. But granted, it’s an error/bug, so I stand corrected on that front.
It doesn’t take me an hour to complete my sigils. On my low level account it did take awhile, but again, that’s expected for a low level account. Did I complete it out just to prove a point? Maybe…probably lol. But as I said, I don’t argue the speed complaint, it’s valid, just not game breaking since it doesn’t occur most world events.
In the end almost all of this is subjective. If the devs decide to just do magic boost medals from now on to avoid issues, I also have no problem with that. I’m all for cheesy events! #gemsandcheese#speedrun4fun
Indeed: once upon a time we didn’t dread finding Ravens, for this week it meant 2 more skull lottery battles of an either moderately slow defeat, or an extremely slow victory (some may highlight how we do not ‘need’ to use sigils, but telling others how to enjoy the game is a fundamentally flawed stance in a game, where things are so subjective that some players even claim that ‘fun’ needn’t be a primary design element).
And herein lies the inherent contradiction of the ‘reason’ posited by Devs when limiting our Weapon/Troop choices ‘to foster teambuilding’ by using less popular troops/weapons (whereas the ‘pay to reduce grind’ philosophy continues to be the prime suspect): we are often all pushed towards the same squad if we wish to climb event levels, unless of course we spend gems in Potions.
If this was about fostering teambuilding, they could do like they do in GvG and Bounty, and offer bonus points for adhering to certain criteria, whereas those of us who would rather beat the event with our favourite troops can also do so.
The fact that they don’t allow for that flexible fun element speaks for itself, and supporting/encouraging the Devs when they maintain this direction likely continues to enable the ‘pay to reduce grind’ philosophy.
Not sure whether it would matter either way, but it certainly does not seem to help.
If you’re correct and it’s not a bug that actually makes the whole thing look worse. That would mean the devs intentionally gave us this miserable event. If they purposely gave us skull boosting medals with no troops that create skulls it would be at best poor game design (like medalling Tesla which does nothing) and at worst a huge troll on us players.
Terrible event. Made to take lots of time and your points barely move. Very beatable as long as you use a class you don’t want to use and you have the only weapon that works. I know the weapon is on the forge but do we really want an event where only 1 weapon works. I’m going to stop requiring these types of events because they are nonsense and they take too long.
I didn’t use ice aegis on the low level alt cause I couldn’t afford it. Doomed hammer worked Just fine though. Hyndla/Valkrie/lofty was the setup that got me through. There are multiple options since hyndla will scale you up. But I def understand not requiring these events in the future. If the rewards aren’t worth the time investment, that makes sense. To each their own.
Lol Than it probably looks worse. I’m guessing these events and restrictions are setup well in advance so the only changes we would see are adjustments to the scoring as we’ve seen in past world event debacles(given the timing of the dev vacation, no way that occurs now). This isn’t the first event to scale like this and I suspect it won’t be the last sadly. Let’s hope a future update takes a look at world event medals.
I, and many guild mates found many bad words for this event and the Devs I won’t repeat here.
The Event:
Is it doable? Yes
Is it fun? partially to no.
Is it creative? no.
Is it damn time consuming? Yes
Is it frustrating players? Yes
Throw a few more events like this at us and I’m probably done with the game.
Also, I always said I have no problem with paying for a game I like but the way you try to grab money lately (lately meaning the past year) is not nice if you would at least create enjoyable content instead of World Events like this.
/edit: off topic but I don’t to be only negative: I appreciate the latest balance changes, I don’t agree with all of them but it’s good you are working on it
I said fun and achievable. Not easy. Those are two different things.
Again, I said nothing about a cake walk. But veterans who find events too easy could always opt to not use the medals (or fewer of them), while newer players need all the help they can get.
I’m glad this event is over, and I didn’t like that I felt forced to craft a weapon I’m not likely going to use much if at all in the future (as I wasn’t having much fun without it, and that’s why I personally play games).
300 diamonds isn’t cheap, BTW. Not for a weapon that you’re not going to use a lot.
That I can get 100% behind. It would be more interesting if medals did something different than just boosting certain damage types.
