[Reported] Soft Lock on Daily Plunder Screen - PS4

This happened for the second time, once a few days ago and once today. After playing a daily task battle when returned to the daily plunder screen the game was soft locked. I couldn’t move the cursor, start the next battle, close the battle selection window, or exit to main menu. Pressing the X button made the typical sound effect, but nothing happened. The only thing I could do was kill the game and restart it.

Happens on Xbox too occasionally.

Happed to me a few times on xbox too. I swear next year they will try and sell us a premium bug free gems of war membership

Yes the soft lock happens very easily if you spam the X button on PlayStation when doing the daily adventure board or whatever it is called these days. Super annoying!

Hello

In order to investigate this issue further, please answer some quick questions for the development team:

  • Please provide recorded video footage of this issue?
  • Please provide your Invite Code?
  • Which Daily Plunder task did you complete the battle for? (That you then spammed X afterwards)
  • What was the level of completion for the daily plunder tasks?

Just tell the devs to play the adventure board on Playstation. You don’t even have to spam the X button, pressing it repeatedly too many times causes the soft lock. It’s not our job to send you videos and god damn invite codes when the issue is so self explained.

I can’t say this more clearly than that it happens literally EVERY DAY and multiple times if you don’t press buttons extra carefully and slow.

Amen. And well said. We are not your “free” beta testers. The fact that you guys don’t properly test or play your game couldn’t be more self evident…

Devs too busy coming up with new currencies, passes and methods of rng to fix their broken mess of a game

This is also happening to me daily on PS4, usually on the second task set I complete. Game locks up, can access chat and menu but nothing else, most buttons don’t work. Have to restart the game.

When this happened again a couple days ago, I tried capturing a video and it was only the few seconds after the soft lock occurred, which wouldn’t be very useful to you (basically just a static screen with nothing happening). So it seemed like the soft lock affected the video capture stream on PS4 in this instance.

If/when it happens the next time I’ll try to capture a video again, but as others have pointed out this should really be your team’s work to troubleshoot it. I wouldn’t say I spam the X button so much as pressing it once or twice at the cadence that usually starts the next battle. I don’t remember the details of which task was just completed, but I think it was the last one of the task group.

I also suspect it may be related to the Buccaneer’s Bounty window showing up but being quickly dismissed by the two X button presses that were intended to start the next battle. I don’t have any evidence besides a hunch for that, but I know in my work we always look through recent changes first when troubleshooting new issues. Granted the system I support is far more complicated than this game, but the same concept should apply, so I would recommend checking that window first.

Devs this is getting ridiculous, atleast on PlayStation. I’m not sure if these soft locks are happening on other platforms to this degree but here on PS end this is beyond unacceptable. Today, I am trying to do my “dailies” after long, hard work shift quickly to get sleep and this Daily Plunder screen is making me mad!

Reason: I am not even spamming buttons anymore. I watch your stupid ass animation screens after every battle without pressing a single button and PRAYING the game doesn’t freeze! And what it does? It still freezes!! Raaaaahhhhh!!!

For what it is worth for further investigation, it froze on “Search for Gold II” two times, and now it has frozen on “Dig for Gems V” in the first two battles.

All these happened without pressing a single button during animation screens and what not.

This nonsense is driving me crazy tbh, fix your god damn Daily Plunder bs. Frankly I can live with all the other hundred bugs but reloading the game handful of times just be able to do the Daily Plunder is just too much ffs…

New day, same s…

Stuck after completing first Runes of Water battle. Notice the first battle didn’t get the “completed” checkmark what it should have after winning the fight. Maybe this causes the problem?

And another soft lock for today, stuck after first Deeds of Fire battle. Now both, the checkmark and the picture of the resource (Fire Deed) is missing.

This happens everyday for me. Multiple times. Out of the standard 9 games I have to restart at least 3 times. Usually happens as soon as the plunder option pops up.

Also- why can’t you fix the loosing of our teams in PVP! As soon as you back out of the kingdom the team is gone the next time

mildly off-topic but I just can't keep this to myself

As much as I 100% agree with this sentiment, I also view it as a form of “due diligence” / bug reporting etiquette that:

  1. whatever evidence you CAN capture, always make it available/attached to your report.
  2. never REFUSE to provide evidence/information when asked. That’s just plain rude.

As an analogy, if you’re returning a product to the store and they ask for your transaction receipt, you don’t just say “no” and expect them to help you the same regardless. Yes, they’ll generally try regardless, but you’re the one getting things off to a bad start.

I understand that not everyone can “always be recording” (myself included!) but there is often just no substitute for actual video footage of the incidents occurring, especially for issues that happen infrequently (or worse, unpredictably). The most important details are usually what led up to the crash/softlock/etc, and we can’t always predict what questions we should be asking to figure out the details of what happened how, video footage is something everybody can inspect on their own to look for anything potentially unusual.

I don’t know how PS4 standard video capture works, but you may need to configure it for retroactive capture (automatic background recording) instead of forward (start/stop) capture. For certain other platforms like Switch, this is actually its system-standard.

You can preach as much as you want but the sad truth is that this game has been full of bugs for years, and most of these could have been spotted if they did even just normal play testing before releasing updates. Or listened to Beta testers.

So I repeat myself, it is not gamers job to report video footage for bugs. The Daily Plunder is simply broken on PlayStation. It freezes atleast once literally daily. Devs could just you know, trust our word and try to figure out what causes it.

Ok I think this is worth posting.

So what happened is that I managed to finish a battle, and then moved to another Daily Plunder task. I entered the battle entry screen but for some reason backed out. After that, the soft lock happened.

FYI I am able to reproduce the soft lock by just going to the battle screen and backing out. Maybe this soft lock problem can be narrowed down to certain task groups? Today’s task that freezes is “Harvest Souls III”.

Another FYI, while I wrote that text above, the screen unlocked!! I managed to back out!

They should rename it the daily blunder

i have this issue on PC Steam. Its random but happens every second or third day.

NOW we’re getting somewhere!

I have never experienced any softlocks on Switch, but at the same time I haven’t been doing anything non-straighforward with the daily battles to potentially trigger it, either.

Keep taking notes.

I’ve captured and edited video on the PS4 hundreds of times (which is a great tool for guild tracking and management since the game doesn’t really provide any internal tools for that), it’s not a settings issue in this case. The PS4 defaults to 15 minutes of rolling capture. The stream was just interrupted in this instance, which happens occasionally for various reasons.
