Patch notes for April's 1.0.85 update (PS4, Xbox One)

Many of you have been waiting to hear more on the changes we’re introducing to the console versions of Gems of War with the upcoming 1.0.85 update. We’ve released a few details so far, but this list offers a full rundown of everything you’ll see in the game once we launch the patch:

New Kingdoms:

We have 3 new kingdoms coming! Grosh-Nak will be available first, with Wild Planes and Darkstone following in the next few weeks. Each kingdom will unlock with the start of a weekly event focused on that kingdom.

Traits!:

Traitstones have come to the console world with 1.0.85! All troops now have 3 traits, which are unlocked by using traitstones. Traitstones are earned from fighting battles, unlocking chests, and in new shop bundles. Legendary troops each have a unique trait not found on any other card!

New Level cap for troops!:

Troops may now be trained beyond level 15, according to their rarity. Rare troops may reach level 16, Ultra-Rare troops 17, and Epic troops may be trained to level 18. Legendary troops may train to 19, and the new Mythic rarity cards may be trained all the way to 20!

Troop Ascension!:

Extra copies of troops may still be disenchanted for souls. But now extra troops may also be applied to “ascend” your troop - giving it a power boost and becoming one rarity higher! This is the only way to reach the new Mythic rarity. With enough copies, even a lowely common troop may become a Mythic level 20!

For a video explaining traits, levels, and ascension, check out this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKLi9QSFK20&feature=youtu.be

Chests!:

The chest screen has been totally redesigned for 1.0.85. We now have 5 types of chests, with 5 types of keys. Each type of chest has a unique set of rewards.

  • Gold Chests: Can be opened using gold. Gold chests have a chance to give Common Troops, Rare Troops, Common Traitstones, Rare Traitstones, or Resources.

  • Glory Chests: Can be opened using Glory. Glory chests have a chance to give a Rare or better troop, or a Major (or better) Traitstone.

  • Gem Chests: Can be opened using gems. Gem chests have a chance to give Ultra-Rare or better Troops, or Runic or better Traitstones. Gems chests have a 4x chance to get Legendaries, compared to glory chests.

  • Event Chests: Can be opened using Gems. Rewards are influenced by the weekly event.

  • VIP Chests: Can only be access by VIP Members. Offers a very limited pool of high-level items.

  • All chests now give only 1 reward rather than the previous 3.

  • Player who have left over keys will gain new keys from the new system

  • Iron Keys = 1 Glory Key + 2 Gold Keys

  • Magic Keys = 1 Gem Key + 2 Gold Keys

  • Players not wanting to sit through all the chests opening, will be able to use a button to skip through the chest opening and go straight to the list showing all the rewards earned.

Kingdoms:

Kingdoms have had a graphical update on the World Map, and kingdom levels have changed dramatically.

  • Kingdoms now gain Power Levels, each Power level is represented by a Star (with a maximum of 5 Stars).

  • Kingdom Power increases the gold or tribute rewards of that kingdom.

  • Players can unlock Kingdom Power Levels by collecting, leveling, and traiting up troops from that kingdom!

  • Kingdom levels are now upgraded with gold. Each level gives you mastery levels, and level 10 gives all of your troops a permanent stat boost!

VIP System

  • Players can now earn VIP points from spending real money on the game. Any Player who has spent money in the past, will earn 5 VIP points for every $1 spent.

  • VIP points allow the player to gain VIP levels.

  • VIP levels gives bonus gems to your purchases, bonus XP/Gold/Souls in game (on top of armor bonuses), and daily rewards!

  • VIP members will have exclusive access to the VIP Chests at VIP Level 5.

PvP Balance:

  • Successful invasions now instantly reward 3 Glory.

Combat Changes:

  • Burning, Frozen, Deathmark, Barrier and Disease status effects have been added.

  • Poison damage may now kill a troop.

  • Silenced troops no longer have their mana drained.

  • All status effects other than poison wear off over time, with a 10% chance (additive) each round.

  • Burning deals 3 damage a turn.

  • Frozen troops may not give extra turns, even by matching 4 or 5 gems!

  • Deathmarked troops have a 10% chance to die each turn.

  • Troops with barrier take 0 damage the next time they would take damage.

  • Diseased troops gain only 1/2 mana from gems.

  • 4 and 5 gem matches now use your hero's mana surge chance, rather than using a fixed chance.

To support the new kingdom bonuses, and the new troop levels, most troops have had significant changes made to their stats & spells. You can find a full list of these changes below, or by visiting the recent PC/Mobile 1.09 patch notes.

We still don’t have a solid release date for 1.0.85 – it’s coming very soon, we just don’t know how soon – but we’ll let you know just as soon as our plans are finalized.

It’s good to see this. 1 additional question though. While I’m assuming this will be the case, will the other changes from prior to 1.09 be added too? Such as Avina doing less damage but triple damage vs Undead And Moloch having his damage increased by the amount of mana drained as well? (Those were 2 I remember off the top of my head.)
If there’s a link for the earlier changes could someone share it? The browser on my phone isn’t great and I won’t have access to the pc for awhile. Thanks in advance and looking forward to the update.

how about the rewards every 5 defends and not just 15?

Our current pop-up about the kingdom levels says that our current kingdom levels will be transferred over when the patch goes live.

Could you clarify/confirm this? If I have a level 10 kingdom now, will it be level 10 after the patch?

Hello console players. Here is some useful tips to get you started in 1.0.85:

  • Keep all or most of your iron keys, but use all your magic keys. Magic keys give a lot more resources than 1 gem key + 2 gold keys. Similarly, 1 glory key and 2 gold key gives more resources than 1 iron key, but it will net less troops.
  • Save your traitstones. Do not get any traits immediately until you have looked over all the troops and find ones that you want to commit to. Traits cost a lot and it would be a shame to waist them. Wait at least one week before traiting anything.
  • Max Darkstone to level 10. It gives +1 magic.
  • Don’t disenchant troops you think you won’t need. It is best to ascend all troops toward mythic regardless of your need for souls in order to have an easier time getting gold stars on kingdoms.
  • Get VIP 3 if you can afford it. If console versions are like PC/mobile, that will give automatic free scouting. This saves a lot of time in PvP for dedicated players.

Best of luck everyone!

I can clarify/confirm this!

It’s just as the notice states: Though the underlying Kingdoms system is being altered with the update, your current Kingdom levels are not. If your Kingdom is level 5 before the update, it will be level 5 after the update. You’ll need to learn new tactics to improve your Kingdoms going forward, but you won’t have to re-earn your levels.

Once the update has arrived, you’ll receive rewards after 15 defenses.

That’s fantastic news, thank you!

Are we losing Personal Tasks?

Nope. But we have updated them slightly, to reflect the new systems.
