No trait stones rescuing Grimlet

What you were expecting to happen, and what actually happened
When rescuing Grimlet, I was expecting to receive a trait stone for each battle. There’s never one awarded, which is probably because the trait stones seem to get pulled from the kingdom the pet belongs to. It’s Apocalypse for Grimlet, I suspect that kingdom is still missing a trait stone assignment.

How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?

I don’t remember ever getting traitstones for pet rescue battles. I typically receive a pet, pet food, money or jewels. Are we actually supposed to be getting traitstones from pet rescue battles?
