PvP points are gone altogether and replaced with VP points in one battle in the preview video the attacker was awarded 78 VP points for winning and in the second battle 72 VP points. So 10k would require around 125-130 battles in a week. Which adds up to the player with 12k VP points in the global leaderboard shown with 163 battles fought.
There’s no need to grind 10k every week either, just do it when you have gold marks to use.
I don’t think you are correct in saying you’ll only see those 30players in your bracket each week. In the video we see he gets a choice of 3 opponents and none of them show up in his bracket at least from 1-25 positions. And that’s in the beta build where I’m surprised there’s even more than one bracket.
Also why are people mentioning glory so much? You lose the daily login of a pitiful amount, you still get it from the battles, unchanged.
There are several shop tabs. See the screenshot above, some pets apparently also require 10k points. The video says there are 20 pets on rotation, you only see a small number from a rotating pool each week.
1.) There is a HUGE hidden progression tax in Gems of War. I’d be very surprised if this doesn’t hit the new VP points, just like it hit PVP points. If it still works the same, those 78 VP will be capped at 50 VP for any reasonably progressed player.
2.) Defense losses. If those are gone, good news. If they are still around, they’ll likely have a much higher impact. You’ll get hit more often (due to competitive brackets) and lose more often (due to not being able to set a reasonable defense team).
Shop offers seem to be rotating each week. You’ll have to grind whenever something you want to spend your gold marks on shows up.
I REALLY wonder why this absolutely has to be gated twice. First you have to grind for the currency, then you have to grind again to be temporarily allowed to spend that currency. Word has it the currency is also directly sold for money in the Premium tab, so players who prefer to avoid PvP can still get the exclusive game mode rewards. That’s one heck of a surprise waiting to happen.
This is the 2020s. People are not supposed to play games for fun anymore. People are supposed to play games to create “content”. And now we are allowed to create even more of it.
sigh Those are the days, I miss playing some simple thrown together stuff in Flash, that has just been put out in the web for fun. But Newsgrounds and co have become scarily messed up in a different way.
There won’t be enough gold marks to go around, by design. Players are going to see offers for very desirable resources and realize very quickly that they are going to be out of reach on a weekly basis outside of spending money on gold marks.
Unless you are a bracket 1 GW player, do not expect to ever obtain meaningful gold marks from leaderboard placement. It won’t happen. Unless… you start paying to give yourself an advantage…
Also, this system is likely the end of any sort of casual or easy PvP for everyone, permanently.
In PQ3, the three opponents chosen for each a fight are chosen as follows:
Left: An opponent equivalent +/- 10% of power to the player’s maximum calculated possible power rating.
Middle: An opponent that is ~10-25% more powerful than the player (if the player is not on top of the leaderboard)
Right: An opponent that is currently in the top positions in your current bracket.
End-game players better be prepared for the shock that 1-trophy opponents may very well be 18k+ teamscore opponents permanently.
Also, there is the additional time load from all of these battles. 10 Leagues * X number of battles per league * daily? (League tokens are use them or lose them daily in PQ3). That’s a lot of extra PvP battles. If so, that is an 60-90 minutes or more daily just to clear these out added to the top of the workload? That’s going to be mighty unpopular for a lot of folks.
Promising update, but damn, I’ll have to play pvp outside of tasks and guild wars. I do wish I hadn’t wasted so many dragonite on trying to get 4 of everything.
Probably nothing, Glory Keys/Chests are the baseline around which the entire chest system is built. The bigger question is what will be happening to Glory (as a currency/resource) itself? It’s had an intrinsic identity crisis for years.
So ultimately it turns into a rat race. Not about reaching goal X, but about achieving more than the others, who in turn try to outdo you and each other as well, an unending cycle until people drop out due to collapsing.
It’s always nice to see, that developers listen to the player concerns. The topic of player burnout has been mentioned a couple of times this year, and now they adress it.
Can you put something in place where you can’t obtain more than 4 copies of a Dragonite Dragon? There are people with 8 or more copies of a single gem dragon still waiting for the last color to drop, the level of RNG is utterly ridiculous and demoralizing. You did it for Guardians, why not gem dragons?
Make that a “can’t you…” and I agree. Obviously this establishes a hard maximum of 21 attempts to get the full set, but that is already +50% over the expected value (of ~15 eggs) so that should not be considered a problem.
Hey, the devs have stated they would correct that issue before the end of this year. So, I’m sure they’ll have something in place in the next 3 weeks…
And if you believe that, I have some oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you.
