I am really excited for this! Please thank the team for sharing another exciting update video @Jeto ! I really enjoy these teasers.
I’m very excited! The dragons look awesome, and I like that PVP is getting a mix-up. Underspire was not for me, but this update is something I’m looking forward too. I like that Gems of War has diverged in many ways and has different modes for different styles of play. Thanks for the update!
I commend the devs in convincing people that a poorly implemented time-gated currency known as Book of Deeds is somehow a good use of “end-game content”, the table scraps conversion rate of 50 Deeds to 1 Book of Deeds is somehow reasonable, and that playing for the privilege to pay gems is the accepted norm.
I commend the devs even more for releasing Books of Deeds in August 12, 2020 and keeping up the facade that digital pixels have exceptional value to the point where one of the active supporters of the current system is saying another person isn’t “willing to pay for the deed offers” and yet is still only at 13/37 after 3 years. Sure, let’s call a game system where it takes a person 6-9 years of their life to obtain a reasonable thing. Are they paying players for this amount of effort?
Or how about the idea that you’re expected by some people to buy the 150 gem merchant offer 17 times for 1 book for a total of 2550 gems, gems which bought from the shop would amount to $100-$200 per book, times 28 books per kingdom, times 37 kingdoms (soon to be 38 books). Seems reasonable. Definitely.
I’m all for grinding in games, but ffs, Gems of War is a game, not your life’s work as a player or your monetary income. If Gems of War shut down, what would you have to show for it? Maybe don’t support a game system that’ll take 10% of your total lifespan to do?
Have some self-worth and stop asking for scraps. We’re 3 years into Books. A few more deeds per week is still going to do nothing. At least ask for Books for a Books problem.
Best part of this Book of Deeds thing? They’re just going to move the needle anyways. There’s nothing stopping them. All for 5.25 tribute reward, 5.25 tribute chance, and 3000 gold per day.
The best part of tributes, gems, doesn’t benefit from tribute reward and raising the chance doesn’t help with the fact that gems are capped on the amount of Kingdoms available. Or maybe, Shiny Kingdom stars let’s goooooooooooooooooo
As for the rest of this update, I reserve judgment until it releases, which is as positive as I can be at this current time. I find it funny we keep getting Tank Mythics, yet they keep releasing more and more things that move troops around, which just makes Tanks useless. Removing player defenses leaves no areas where players can test against specific teams, which is really detrimental. Just play blind and hope it works out! …
Admittedly, Terror does make the latest mythic’s “move to the front” ability at least somewhat useful, under rather specific circumstances. ![]()
I’d like to see improved visibility for the training battles (aka. fight against yourself). Currently you have to assign one of your Teams to the PVP “Defense” team slot, but without a dedicated Defense slot there needs to be another way.
Perhaps when accessing the “Collection” screen directly from the Map, when clicking a team slot you have a button called (for example) “Practice battle” where it switches to the Training pre-battle screen, just like any other pre-battle screen except it’s your selected team on the right side to fight against.
@TheIdleOne Your analysis is spot on, and it calls out the devs on changes they don’t understand or don’t want to implement to make our lives easier.
Removing training battles and casual pvp is extremely detrimental for reasons they clearly don’t understand. Have they even played competitive guild wars against empowered book teams? Doubtful. Do they change their troop composition to counter the enemy team they are facing and practice? Yeah, sure. Have they grinded out class exp in casual pvp knowing that they get double experience for little effort? Maybe.
Battlegrounds look promising, but it looks like a game mode that is similar to guild wars, but you will be restricted in frustrating ways. There are troop typings or kingdoms that are not fun to use and will just frustrate players trying to find something that works well. If the highest tier rewards for battlegrounds is deed books, that’s going to be an all-out-war for those stupid silver and gold marks.
Deed books can be grinded out in explore 1 until your eyes bleed, but I think I’ll enjoy life a bit more instead of locking myself inside all day playing that bore fest.
See you all next week, with a new wave of bugs to report.![]()
Have you seen the team used in the preview video? That’s about as good as their teams get.
They don’t play seriously so if course they don’t train.
I still hope they haven’t forgotten that people use that option though I won’t be surprised if they’ve just removed the option for us.
To be fair, the merchant, who really speeds things up (and has a significantly better ratio than the daily deals), is a much younger introduction, though.
Where was collecting all the dragon’s fun ![]()
my english is not good,i see the video and my questions is.
9 pvp kingdoms with restrictions and 1 “free”.
9 pvp kingdoms is all playable every week and day ?
how many battles every day and pvp kingdoms ?
regions bonus says win 5 battles, maybe 5 battles every day ?
5 battles x 9 pvp kingdoms = 45 battles every day ?
need other 9 slots to create teams ? i have only 4 or 5 empty slots
6 defence guild wars and 9 attack/defence pvp kingdoms ?
im so sorry for my english,i hope understanding my questions.
thanks.
So what will happen to glory, glory chests and all our glory keys?
And don’t forget the weekly glory troop. How long before after the update until the campaign has a glory task when no glory you get courts because it’s not from pvp
Had the realisation… where does glory come from now?
The money option says that you’ll get 3 copies of the current week troop. So yes im getting uneasy.
Also now we know why they removed Glory from the worldmap…
@sirrian every time your company has a new way of blocking players from having all the troops in the game you lose more investors than gain new ones. It’s a truly maddening strategy that will cause the downfall of the game more than anything.
Gems of War is a troop collection game with keys being the main resource for finding the troops. At the time of this post at least 150 troops cannot be found with keys. FOMO only motivates spending if the spending removes the fear. Gems Of War is designed to cause FOMO but doesn’t offer any options to remove the fear completely.
Let’s talk a bit about the parts that might push players deep into pitchfork territory. This is the reward shop:

There are restrictions on purchases. You not only need to have saved up enough currency, you also need to have reached a PvP points threshold to be able to spend that currency. The pet on the left requires 10k PvP points, there are similar items in the other tabs.
10k PvP points is a lot, likely around 200 battles, possibly more. They reset at the end of the week, so you have to unlock your shop offers over and over again. And you can’t just save up your currency and go on a spending spree every couple of months, because each week limits the number of purchases you can do. If you just play a bit of PvP each week, say entirely goodbye to the shop, the preview shows 2500 PvP as the lowest threshold to be able to start spending any currency at all.
Now, the part the preview was entirely silent about, PvP points. Defense teams are gone, we now get to fight attack teams. There’s a new bracketing in place that attempts to lump 30 equally active players together for a whole week, to compete against each other. This likely means fighting only these 30 players throughout the week.
The old system only picked recently active PvP players as target, to limit the number of defense losses. If the new system really only has 30 players to choose from, it will probably pick any of them, any time, hammering players with a constant stream of losses, even when offline. And if we still lose PvP points whenever the AI running our attack team gets steamrolled, those 10k PvP points to unlock all shop offers of the week might take a LOT more than 200 fights to reach and maintain. I really, really hope this was properly taken into account as part of the redesign.
PvP points are gone altogether and replaced with VP points in one battle in the preview video the attacker was awarded 78 VP points for winning and in the second battle 72 VP points. So 10k would require around 125-130 battles in a week. Which adds up to the player with 12k VP points in the global leaderboard shown with 163 battles fought.
There’s no need to grind 10k every week either, just do it when you have gold marks to use.
I don’t think you are correct in saying you’ll only see those 30players in your bracket each week. In the video we see he gets a choice of 3 opponents and none of them show up in his bracket at least from 1-25 positions. And that’s in the beta build where I’m surprised there’s even more than one bracket.
Also why are people mentioning glory so much? You lose the daily login of a pitiful amount, you still get it from the battles, unchanged.
As there is no Defense system anymore I am hoping no points are deducted when the AI plays with your team.
Also most items have a 2500 VP points requirement, not 10 000. 10 000 is only shown for Dragonite.
