Tuesday faction events are not healthy

I think what @TheIdleOne is saying in a roundabout way is that he and others will continue to hammer new factions despite their opinions on whether this is beneficial to the playerbase or not. We all know it’s not healthy but idles guild is almost unbeatable at wars. The members have colossal resources from repeated B1 triumph and are thus in a position to care less about how many gems this may cost. This also clearly demonstrates that his and other top guilds have way more time than most to capitalise and endure the torture of this horrific game mode because they don’t have as many RL obligations than most of us. This is an observation not a criticism. @TheIdleOne is a fine player on a guild of fine players but that does not excuse the ambivalence they represent in general regarding issues like this. They will complain that the “promised solution” is not forthcoming whilst simultaneously exacerbating the issue by playing along hour after hour after hour. They will never boycott the events as @awryan suggested because they simply cannot refuse the paltry bonuses that faction pets and a solitary stat gain offer. Anyone who works or has outdoor hobbies and family responsibilities and a social life can (or would want to) maintain this grind. It’s that simple. Top players are giving the devs the income boost one way or another and can’t see past their own need to strive for the end game that they will NEVER EVER ACHIEVE.

The reason you see more people on leaderboards is because people that could not do the delves without potions are now doing it on the one day event to get it done and out of the way. Not what they really want to do but otherwise it will never get done. The bad part is it is chasing people out of the game. I have seen many long time players throw up their hands and quit game. The gold Nerf made some quit. They have tons of keys but no gold and could not play enough to stay in a top guild. I do not know what the answer is but I can see more and more people leaving game over not being able to keep up.

I agree. Something needs to change. I understand that the devs want the faction teams to be challenging and I totally get having an option to spend money to make it easier. I don’t disagree with that.

However, I would think that from a pure business standpoint, they would want to change the way things are. There are plenty of players out there like me. I work full time. I have a nice 9-5 job and I’m at work all day on Tuesdays. I have a nice job and I have money to spend on this game if I choose, but there is no way I’m ever going to make it up to level 500 on Faction Assault Tuesday. Heck, I never even make it to 500 on New Faction weekends. I simply don’t have enough time.

I have an idea for improvement. One that would preserve the business model and also ease up the time restrictions for players.

  1. Like someone suggested, allow the Faction Assaults to start at the highest level you’ve cleared.
  2. If that isn’t possible, then add some options to the normal delves. Once you reach level 500, unlock 2 abilities. 1) Add the ability to fight at any level you choose. The leftmost option stays at 50. Allow the middle option to adjust to levels 100,200,300,400 or 500. This would allow faction runs at those levels for additional rewards if 500 is too hard. 2) Add the ability to buy potions for a run, similar to the event potions. Any potions purchased will last for 24 hours or until reset, whichever is easier. Also, potions are for that faction only.

Yep it is pretty silly to make people start over on a Tuesday even if they are almost done with delve. People should be at least given a choice as to if they want to start over and chase LB or if they just want to start where they left off. Can I do 500 delve on a work day? No. Can I if I can start where I left off? Absolutely.

@TheIdleOne is a fairly newish Thief, barely here 500 days. And the largess of wealth once granted to elder Thieves is… not what it used to be. Though I can throw thousands of gems at every delve with barely a dent to my pile, I just don’t have the gems patience to 2500 a delve over three days.

Idle spends his gems fairly conservatively in events, and relies often on his quite considerable skill. I’m impatient, like to drink too much, and have way too many gems, and the way pure faction delves are set up still annoy everyone.

Since we’re cross-posting, I feel like my comments go better here:

This is why I’m yawning. People had more or less the same feedback about Delves the day they released. It’s been a constant topic every new faction for as long as the feature has existed. They’ve been “collating our feedback” and “believing it’s too hard” and “thinking of something to do” for more than a year. Here’s what they did:

  • Introduced potions, which make spending gems and running the entire event in 24 hours/a weekend the cheapest way to do it.
  • Made it so players who have pushed the level too high can do level 50 at a penalty for daily farming.

Delves are NOT getting easier. If anything, it seems they’re trending harder. So it doesn’t seem like the collated feedback is really causing much to happen. Or… maybe… this is the design. It’s an abusive game mode meant to bring out the worst possible spending habits from the people who can’t let themselves slip even a little behind the competition.

I said “abusive”. I’ve been called out for using that word before, but it was in nearly the same context and I’ll stand behind it. It’s overtly designed to make the people most prone to addiction give up entire days/weekends. The devs may say, “We never intend for someone to do this, it’s their own choice”. Casino owners and tobacco execs say the same thing. It’s not a good crowd to join. If the devs legit felt a shred of guilt, something would have changed. The only change is it’s getting worse. They aren’t innocent, and they’re not flabbergasted that we aren’t perceiving their moves as friendly.

Anyway: yawwwwwwwn. This has been written on the wall for a year, I’ve been made fun of for calling it abusive, and the only thing that’s changed is players spend more gems and more effort on it. The machine ain’t broken, there’s no shortage of addicts to feed it. This is as good a reason as any to step away, and honestly the surest sign it won’t change is I can say that but I can’t make myself step away.

The game thrives on the perception that we need them. We don’t need them, they need us. So long as we won’t and don’t walk away from abuse, they’re not inclined to stop. And the only promise we ever get is if we do stop, then their lack of revenue will make things worse. So we have a choice:

  • Keep playing and let it get worse.
  • Stop playing and let it get worse.

Hopefully legislation (or play store rules) will eventually be introduced to curb this form of abuse, since clearly Morality has demonstrably been insufficient…

…and hopefully before our young kids have to face the possibility of being preyed upon once they get their financial autonomy.

It definitely feels like that. If I don’t reach level 500 on opening weekend, then I have to use my limited 3 daily sigils, and I won’t have any potions (enchant, shield, opening explosions, barrier, bless, and stat boosts) that are necessary now days for these ridiculous pure faction runs.

That also mean if I want another attempt at that same faction, I’ll have to wait for a Tuesday and have to cram all the runs into one day. There are some problems with this:

  1. There is no possible way to do a complete run through every level and every room on each level all the way to 500 in one day, and yet…
  2. You get more ravens the more rooms you do. If you always take the shortest route to the Boss room, you won’t get as many Ravens, and so you will have to spend more gems to get more sigils to reach 500.
  3. You also don’t get free sigils that you get on Sat/Sun with weekend releases. Those free sigils of course could have rooms with ravens.

This guarantees that people doing runs on Tuesday will have to spend massive amounts of gems to reach level 500. And thus, planning ahead is necessary, by doing everything on opening weekend.

I bought 9 tier 7 potions for the Warren event last week. I failed to complete 8 pure faction attempts.

I bought 1 tier 7 this past weekend so I could attempt pure faction at 300. I failed twice.

I did not play the Fang Moor faction event. I doubt I was the only one who skipped it. More will skip the next. Maybe. Maybe not. I will, indefinitely.

Once all factions are released, they might use the monthly faction event to repeat previous factions.

@Saltypatra. Whilst I believe that you are doing your utmost to convey our universal dissatisfaction, it is completely clear that it is falling on deaf ears. Faction events are getting harder and more and more time consuming so how are we supposed to believe “that the team want to do something about it?” It’s very obvious what the first step needs to be; ALL future factions should allow a 3 fight level completion. This 5 fight debacle is just showing us the finger. Pretty artwork and floor lay outs are all very well and good but we are past caring. We want minimal fights…period. how is that so difficult to implement? The more “long term” changes you mention are clearly not high on the agenda whereas hammering the players is very much THE AGENDA. Not only are we forced to endure repetitious factions, we are now practically obligated to use ONE EXPLORE FARM TEAM over and over and over to attempt to recoup the gold that you ripped from the game in 4.7. There are over 700 troops and I find myself using hardly any of them in the majority of my play. That’s purely down to you guys: repeated bad faction design, excruciating levels of monotony, colossal time and resource investment, constant secret squirrel nerfing etc etc. I’ve never seen such a cohesive community viewpoint on any other subject but nothing is being done to alleviate the situation. And that’s been the case for over a year.

Exactly … Pretty sure I’ve been saying all this for that long as well. Except in some cases I’m a month early on the feedback since beta. They don’t listen to me anymore apparently.

When the Epic tasks were first announced, there was a post that beginner to mid level guilds weren’t supposed to focus on completing Epic tasks, as they were would benefit more from completing the Basic tasks.

Unless I take this out of context, I’d say Faction delves weren’t meant to be fought with hoards less than 300. Why else make them go to 1000?

And since the Tues Faction event rewards end at 70k points (I think. My memory fails too often), players were meant to stop playing at that point. Anyone continuing on to 500 is not playing the game as intended. More nerfs incoming.

Although, I did get 104k gold from a lvl 9 chest today. I forgot to screenshot for posterity. My bad.

Hoard 300 or 1000. I would never do one. Gold is too hard to come by.

It’s been suggested before, but this is a good place to mention it again.

Setting your Home Kingdom means your Hero is “from” that Kingdom. At least allowing us to use the Hero in Pure Faction battles would make things a little easier because we’d have better weapons to use.

I will keep it simple, two changes that would go a long way toward making this better.

  1. On Tuesday event, allow player to start at 20 or at the next level they need to clear.

  2. Allow Hero to count as part of faction team when class is set to associated kingdom.

For some reason I thought hero kingdom was based on class for quite some time now.
Maybe because that would make sense :sweat_smile:
