Shiny King Highforge: boost ratio 6x > 9x

in the future:

Shiny Taloca: triple → quadruple scatter damage with a storm..
Shiny Baphomet: deal damage to 3 random enemies → 4 random enemies.

Next campaign mythic:
Gormungandr: Has a shiny spell. First Mythic Shiny?

Sadly it may be the worst shiny effect I have seen from all troops and badly needs a change.

So the shiny effect only gives it an extra barrier if you kill an enemy and on top of that, the troop’s own 3rd trait is going to remove its own barrier anyways…

Bothros: Purple/Red/Green version of Grimborn Bloodeye. Don’t know if anyone asked for that. 3rd trait is Poison and Death Mark a random enemy on 4/5 match. Somehow power creeping the trait while still being the weakest version possible.

Zarg’s Boompile: Has potential.. Explode 2 Skull gems at the start of the turn with Destroy a 5x5, scatter damage, extra turn. Red/Green/Blue for automated goodness…

Zarg’s Boom Pile will be a nightmare to face on defense with a Geomancer class, as you could set up 3 of those goblin/construct troops with a 50% mana start. Exploding 2-6 skulls at the start of the turn, along with scatter damage and destroying gems is absurd. Snap freeze will help fight it, but you would still need to get 4+ gem matches to shut that mythic down.

And maybe someday, we will get a legendary goblin that gives all goblins a 50% mana start to create even more chaos.

time to shout into the clouds again:

Next season of PvP troops needs a retool:

Khaomani looks good, but Immortal Libara already makes 2 Angel Gems. We only have 21 Immortals and we’re already duplicating 3rd Immortal traits?.. Come on…

Fans of Furnax get another troop self-buffer, but with no gem explosion this time. 3rd trait is good, but… we already make 2 Entangle Gems per turn with Archdruid Blackwood, so unless you’re getting Monstera to Level 30, you can just use a way easier to get troop to replicate the 3rd trait exactly.

I find it amusing that Vulpacea, the Kingdom of Choice, is getting a static spell Mythic, while Silverglade is getting a legendary with a choice (a kingdom which has one choice troop, Dragon Eggs).

Today I learned that the “Choose one” portion isn’t searchable with Filters.

Kumiko is the second troop to Charm 2 random enemies (the other one being Incubus). (Almost) No one ever uses Incubus.

If there is only one target left, Kumiko spends 24 mana to only drain 16 mana from the enemy. In a kingdom with Azaleus and Foxglove (2 Legendaries) making Entangle gems, I don’t see why I’d want to Charm with this troop either.

I think the 3rd trait is unique, but it’s on the weak side of things given what the rest of the kingdom can do (like Fenix Blessing and Enchanting a random ally on 4/5 match).

This troop would be bad for a monthly Mythic, but as a Mythic that costs 2500 Gold Marks..

King Elbormor: 3rd trait is useable, but that spell feels like it should be doing both sides and not exist as an OR.

None of these troops are particularly exciting as is, so next season is going to be mundane, as is.

That would actually make it much worse. The second option has such a high chance to ruin your day, I don’t think it’s worth using it.

Totally agree. Would be nice to see an immortal with a third trait that cleanses an ally or dispels an enemy, rather than bless/curse, and have it do it directly, rather than creating gems they may not even be able to use (it creates angel gems but can’t explode them and they can’t be matched, I believe).
But repeating traits already would seem pretty bad. They can’t be running out of ideas, surely?

Probably, but it could lead to self-looping which might be worth the risk on a 1.5x true damage. I don’t think you’ll be able to convert yellow to yellow and it’s based on enemy mana color so it narrows down which ones are converted a bit more.

However the risk on that cast currently needs to be worth the reward and self-enchant is definitely not it.

I didn’t mind the old Clockwork Knight, but casting that for just armor gain didn’t make any sense to ever use it.

The Leaping Spider fans might like it as is so I probably shouldn’t say anything, but for myself, King Elb competes with Arachnaean Weaver as a Green and/or Yellow Elf troop and/or as an Elf true damage source if that needed to exist for some reason.

As it is, do true damage with no other effect for a Legendary troop is kinda… it doesn’t feel like a Legendary at that point.

As bad as those PvP seasonal troops are, the next two monthly mythics suck.

Even with a healthy boost from a large number of Purple gems on the board, Voidjaw just isn’t going to do enough damage to matter, IMO. And the other half of its spell won’t kick in unless the target is a particular color.

As for the Champion of Rot, its base damage number better be enormous. Like [Magic x 3] enormous or somesuch. Even so, I can’t imagine that he’ll be preferable to Queen Beetrix except in certain narrow game modes or restrictions. And it’s probably worse than King Gobtruffle because Goblin loops and Extra Turns.

I’m not taking that bet. There haven’t been very many creative new ideas out of this team in heaven-knows-how-long.

Actually, yeah. I never directly compared the 2. It’s currently the same spell, except Champion makes 2 less gems than King Gobtruffle and has no extra turn. I don’t know how that makes sense.

I’m hesitant to say make more gems, as 20 is currently what Takshaka does and people already don’t like being on the receiving end. I’d love it if they added on Curse All Enemies to the spell, but I’m not holding my breath.

Reavnarokkr was basically made in the exact same way, down to being anti-purple. Don’t know why we needed a 2nd anti-purple troop so close together in the release schedule.

Voidjaw’s 3rd Trait could be useful in insolation, so I’m hesitant to say much about the troop in general. At some point, a stackable 2 purple gem creator per turn that can devour purple troops 60% of the time is not the worst thing they’ve released..

You can filter on “&&” to list the “Choose one” troops.

It relies on the special syntax used in the spell descriptions, such as this for Crystal Eggs.

&& Create 7 Blue Dragon Gems. Summon a random Dragon. && Create 7 Green Dragon Gems. Summon a random Dragon.

There’s just…not that much to be excited about for awhile which might be a good thing tbh. I have tried to see the hidden potential in the upcoming troops, but…there just isn’t much there.

I think this game just has too many troops, and the power creep has filled our minds with “wanting more” out of every new troop that gets released. But in all honesty, troops don’t need to have a complicated spell or traits.

Just look at Jeweled Golem. Simple, but effective. Generates mana well (especially with a dust storm). Protects your team and even has some extra skull damage against stunned enemies (which goes really well with elementalist).

I have an Excel spreadsheet of ideas that could make troops better, but I stopped doing it because I know that those dreams will die like the cherry tree in my backyard.

That’s cute. I wanted to see the PvP related troops be improved since they’re part of the PvP attraction, but instead we got adjustments to those two monthly mythics instead..

Voidjaw being anti-red instead of anti-purple.. I’ll take it. Maybe I can devour a Takshaka one day or something.

Champion of Rot now does Greed and Red instead of Green and Brown gems. Considering all the Green Storms we don’t have, Green and Red storm being the one permastorm we do have works out nicely. It also makes more gems than before and does more damage. If it ends up playing like Takshaka in any way, this could be a halfway decent troop.

I mean, no one is going to care about Champion of Rot since it doesn’t have the fast mana Takshaka does but still.

It also never dawned on me that it might be related to Champion of Anu and Champion of Gaard until now. You know, if story actually mattered anymore in Gems of War by 2025.

Well, if there was a season of PvP to sit out, this would be the one.

Khaomani: At least it’s not a dupe trait, but 65% to make 3 Angel Gems is equally as pointless. I bet the Awakened Trait is Create 3 Angel Gems  or will it be 65% chance to make 4 Angel Gems, as if that’s any better?

Then the reduction on the boost ratio is silly for the effect (bless on the enemy team is so bad), on top of losing its own Bless boost on casting, as well as just being lower boost ratio than basically every other Immortal.

Kumiko: the troop that does basically nothing if you’re using Elementalist or they are impervious/invulnerable. I’ll take the year penalty and just get some books. The troop has no value for playtesting.

Monstera: the type of troop that is fine but not amazing and you get it to level 4 and call it a day since level 30 is just completely unrealistic. Nevermind, just use Archdruid Blackwood or Caprichor (never thought I’d say that)
