Sneak Peek - New Upgrade Menus

Cyrup came on board after the last raft of changes being discussed, IIRC. She wouldn’t know unless someone had told her. Which many people in this thread took the opportunity to do!

I think it was Sirrian that already mentioned on stream you’re taking away 2 weeks of guild wars and it’s only going to be every 3rd week.

When you added 4x speed you completely took away gems from legendary tasks plus you took a lot of gems, souls, event keys, gold keys, glory keys and probably more I’m forgetting from regular tasks.

What we still don’t know is how “rare” these orbs are?
If for example they are a “rare” drop from a “rare” random enemy, read GNOME, then you begin to see that they are very valuable. And farming for stones will still be “easier” and more reliable then hoping that a Gnome spawns, you manage to kill it before it casts and escapes and it drops an ORB instead a bag of 20k gold…

Of course, I could be completely wrong about this… lol

That’s the fun of speculation! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

EDIT: I kept reading and @Cyrup I think everybody already covered VERY WELL, why the vets among us that didn’t quit over the last nerf to player rewards are hesitant regarding “shiny, new Orbs”. Yes they will be awesome as a new incentive/reward but if in order to enjoy these new elements we must “lose” current rewards, then please keep your orbs and leave my GoW alone.

I’m dubious as to the definition of ‘rare’ in gow terms. Apparently the troops in gold chests are common and rares, yet they’re hardly rare in the truest sense are they?

I’ll say it directly. If we are about to lose something, it’s important that we have at least insight and explanations on why we are losing it in the first place. Arguing over a change that needs to be implemented might be, to say the least a nuissance, but honestly it would spare both sides, devs and players, from worse scenarios. We’ve been forbidden from posting about leaving the game and the reasons behind such decisions, and if this is not a bad sign of what once happened then i don’t know what could be considered a bad sign…

Obviously in my post I was using rare in the sense of the true definition, however the quotation marks were there to hint at the fact that all that is random is controlled by RNGesus which can be more than sketchy at times. So, if the devs are thinking that the playerbase might wind up with too many of these new resources despite their intentions to make them “rare” then we might need to prepare ourselves for an impending NERF… whether we like it or not…

To add to the point every good thing comes at great price in GoW, summonning stones were modified to target only certain troops up to epic because there were complains that commons are too rare to find with gold keys. so we no longer have a chance at base legendaries and mythics with them. but hey, more commons for us. don’t see anyone complaining anymore.

Don’t forget that in the very early news of the Task changes the developers said “The Tasks will be MORE rewarding”. Obviously this was an extreme lie. Now, I fully understand the original v1.0 Task System as initially released was very generous and a few players were abusing the h€|| out of it, and farming limitless diamonds. But the bad news (the nerf) was not only covered up, but as players were told the opposite presented quite a shock.

I have a hard time imagining orbs as ruining the game.

I don’t know where the game is going. I’m making guesses based off what I see. If orbs come out at the rate “two minors or one major per week”, that’s on par with the Arcane farming rates I see myself. That’s a very rare orb drop rate, but it is about on pace with the rates I see for traitstone farming.

But the devs have also said they want to start releasing more troops faster. If that happens, the current traitstone farming rates are very daunting if you’re a new(er) player. For people who have thousands of traitstones it’s a minor inconvenience. I don’t even have “dozens” hoarded up. So I think orbs are going to be a boon for people like me, and I sort of expect over time traitstones will be removed from the game.

The primary argument against is, “But I spent so much time farming!” Your reward is you get to face the brave new world with already-traited stuff, that’s more or less how it’ll likely sit when the dust settles. I find in any long-lived game like this power creep is inevitable, and newbies usually get the “best” slice of the pie when it happens.

Lol, can’t see that at all!

It’s speculation. But it means we’ll have two different systems to maintain troops, one that’s very bad for color-blind users, difficult to explain to newbies, and leads to complex requests like, “The map screen should show me which traitstones a kingdom drops” and “I shouldn’t have to use gowdb to find out what the third trait of a troop requires.” The other one is simple to explain to users and also to express in UI.

Why’s it so hard to imagine? Because “players already have so many traitstones”? I already covered that: it’s an argument that’s more or less “the game can never change”.

i certainly dont see them getting rid of stones ever.i see a new thing that we will prob get very little of ingame just like crafting resources wich they will then try to make tons off of from people who have lots of money to waste but dont want to farm stones

Tbh my major concern is that the game becomes a tedious pointless grind fest, like destiny.

I really don’t understand why people are so mad about Orbs before knowing how to obtain them.

In my opinion, Orbs will be money-exclucive items without anyway to earn for free-to-play players (Except from a gift), just like Ring of Wonder. And I don’t see people who complaining about them, because it’s actually just for speed things up; gaining golds/souls/exps faster, just like orbs; traiting/leveling/ascenting without farming them. I don’t think they will ever removed traitstones, this is just a more expensive alternative. Traitstones are the main reason why explore is a thing.

And if it’s really like that, they’ll be no need to any nerf. Nerf in the past only happened because of new kind of free currencies being added/easier to gain. These Orbs will likely not be the case, consider how powerful they are. Orbs are too good to be free…

@TimeKnight
Is suspect one possible small complaint is that new players could quickly buy their way to be competitive at the top level. Some people might not want more competition, I personally would like more top players though.

Cost: Considering how 1 single non-rng determined Legendary troop (plus some odds and ends to trait it) cost $50, and random rng Legendary is $30. Of course Orbs are going to be VERY expensive: Considering you are moving a specific troop of your choice to Mythic fully traited.

Many other games have included “accelerating/unlock/speed/etc” packs. If that’s all Orbs are fine my me! If it also includes a reduction of all existing in game resources/rewards I think that’s what people are really concerned about.

Anyhow, We will know more in a few weeks…

I somehow guess that Raid’s will reward Orbs and not gems. So big amounts of gems can be really gained only 1/3 weeks (from GW).

I like Orbs as an idea nonetheless. If an Orb of Ascension can be used to upgrade an event chest legendary troop to mythic, there is less need for opening chests, which makes completing the collection less random and luck-based. That in general would be great.

This is my main concern, also a disproportioned valuable resource as a Orb of Wisdom, for example, being able to unlock very expensive traits has a couple of issues/concerns attached.

Yes, and that’s what makes people think about a possible nerf in rewards. As in, we would get Orbs but we would also get less keys to attain an intended balance.

Of course, this is speculation. We need to wait and see for ourselves what is being cooked in “Reddit’s kitchen”.

did you guys fix the hero class menu so we can click on the traitstones and go to the kingdom like the troops?

How else would you make room for the new events they are going to add? Guild wars is getting redundant and causing more stress on people than fun.
I’m totally okay with once every 3 weeks. Though I’d prefer an every other week rotation.
