I wanted to start a feedback/discussion thread which was prompted by the post @Dust_Angel made below.
There is a resource cap that is something like 2.164 billion or so.
This cap exists due to the way numbers are stored in the database and this is the highest number that can be stored currently due to technical reasons.
It is rare for players who arne’t cheating to hit the cap on any resource, however, with the game being 10 years old we are starting to see a very small number of legitimate players either hitting the cap or having ammassed large hoards of resources - especially Gold.
I have questions for anyone who is hoarding their gold into the 100s of millions and beyond!
Why do you hoard your Gold?
Are your Kingdoms and Faction Hoards as high as you can get them without being blocked by non-gold related factors? Or are they still able to be levelled and you haven’t done it?
Is there a reason you don’t spend your Gold on Legendary Tasks for your Guild? If so, why?
Do you have any ideas about how you would like to use MASSIVE amounts of Gold that would be more tmepting to you than Legendary Tasks?
Legendary Tasks do not have good enough rewards. They contain a tiny amount of keys and many guilds never get any mythics.Hence players do not feel encouraged to drop gold on these.
Yes but actually no?
The “999+” sounds like a limitation imposed on the display of how many Keys you have, and not the actual number itself (which is what the ~2.4B limit is). Still, imposing a “soft cap” on Gold (1B? 2.0B?) where the game intentionally ignores/discards any income/rewards above this value could probably be implemented fairly easily serverside, although it does not address the question of what should the game offer in lieu of Gold for a player who isn’t spending theirs…
Though I cannot answer any of these personally, just by looking over them, upgrading a Faction Hoard (especially past Lv.100~200) feels like it’s less restricted by Gold than by the Treasure cards involved. Sure, technically you can still sink Gold into upgrading the Hoard with lowly Coin Purses and Gold Rings, but phrasing it that way just makes it more obvious that you’re only doing it for the Gold sink and not for the Faction Level or any (worthwhile) benefit.
Even with Hoard Levels just cresting Lv.100 it already feels meaningless to upgrade it with anything less than a King’s Crown or Genie’s Lamp.
And reason #3 is technically restricted to players who are also Guild members – not that I imagine there are many people approaching the cap who aren’t in a Guild already, but all the same, Guild Tasks are (for practical purposes) the only Gold sink in the game that does not ultimately, eventually fill up and be left unusable. (Sure, technically you can also spend Gold on, well, Gold Chests, but only 15k at a time which is nowhere near the same level as Guild Tasks.)
For another example of a sink that is more easily filled up: Ingots. I’ve already reached the point where every Ingot-eligible weapon I have is maxed out, so I am accumulating these daily with no further ability to spend any of them. Yes, I know, technically I can upgrade most Ingots to Legendary and then trade them for another copy of Leonis Tower, but again – that just reinforces the fact that I’ve filled up the sink. And it says nothing about Mythic Ingots, what with Mythic weapons being quite rare to come across.
Refresh my memory, point me to what’s awarded from Legendary Tasks again? My guild is fairly small and casual, we’ve never yet unlocked any Legendary Tasks.
Is there a reason you don’t spend your Gold on Legendary Tasks for your Guild? If so, why?
Legendary Tasks are outdated and mostly unrewarding. The rewards for 30 people mentality doesn’t motivate me. I just see 6 Arcane Traitstones that I could live without.
At the current position of Tasks, I contribute because it’s there, but I don’t go out of my way to get excited by anything that arrives from it.
Opening Gold Chests also takes way too long.
Are your Kingdoms and Faction Hoards as high as you can get them without being blocked by non-gold related factors? Or are they still able to be levelled and you haven’t done it?
Yes. There’s a billion and a half new currencies constantly being released and gold is just an afterthought in this game.
Do you have any ideas about how you would like to use MASSIVE amounts of Gold that would be more tmepting to you than Legendary Tasks?
Consolidate a good majority of these other currencies and make them cost gold instead. Does that solve the issue? no. But it’s a start.
When was the last time I was excited to see Cursed Runes, War Coins, Pet Gnome Bait, Cursed Gnome Bait, Dragonite Gnome Bait, Shiny Keys, Exalted Keys and more?
Really, just take a moment and look at the available Resource Wallet and tell me how that isn’t overwhelming. But that’s another issue for another day.
tl;dr: unrewarding outdated gold sinks.
p.s. Same reason why it is not exciting to get VIP levels in Gems of War, I rather just hoard my money.
Legendary tasks are completely outdated… Just like half the stuff on this game. You guys choose to update nothing, and give the same rewards out. Add dragonite, diamonds or other things to legendary tasks? How about gold marks or whatever else is new now. You are still running a system of legendary tasks that has nothing new in it… Update the game to be in line with new rewards. We continually tell you guys VIP rewards are outdated… That pretty much goes along with any other old system that exists… Just update the damn game. I really feel this is such a simple task to do. Is there a reason why you guys don’t update these?
You ask the same questions over and over, but it all it takes is a few minutes of your time and to go through the forums to see what people want and have been asking for, for years now.
Also i’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say this, but I feel like you make a post like this to ask, and then we tell you everything that is wrong. But you guys don’t even consider any of the stuff we mention. So what is the point of asking if you truely don’t even care about the health or wellbeing of this game.
Same. I was recently looking at what they give. No percentages given, but here’s a helpful (short) guide that shows the tasks being unlocked and what they can give: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlTAp7riOhk
If someone has all Underworld factions completed at 500 with a pure faction team, there’s zero reason to pump gold into them any longer. And as someone mentioned, the treasure troops are a blocking factor here more than the gold stash.
I’m not hoarding gold - my guild does semi-regular “mega” gold dumps into LTs - and we get decent rewards (mind you, the rewards are decent because we can do 500+ LTs or more as a guild and they all add up…). So it’s not something that would affect me personally. But I wish the rewards from LTs included more recent and rare resources - dragonite, for example. Or more keys per draw. Or shiny keys. There are many currencies that are begging for inclusion in LTs (and in treasure gnome too). There are so, so many troops in the game now that being so stingy with keys of all types is discouraging. Throwing a million gold into a task and only seeing a few arcane traitstones and a handful of glory, repeatedly, when I own more traitstones of all types at this point than I can ever use, isn’t really motivating to use gold for LTs, for a 5-year-old end-game account. My guild is what motivates me to do it, not the game itself.
Yes how about celebrating 10 years by actually updating rewards to coincide with all the changes that have been made to the game over the last decade instead of continuing to ignore the clearly obvious balance problem
I left my hardcore guild too. In fact I have scaled down on my playing because of the RNG dragon situation and cash grab. Sadly they seem to need more money to run the game but their increasing lootbox cash offers etc. are the very thing driving players away.
But we used to do LTs every week. One task gives maybe 3 traitstones, 3 event keys and some glory. This feels like a waste as one LT costs 1 Million gold. Once in a while you get a Legendary Troop which is useless to all the endgamers who have lots of gold since they have almost all the troops. And maybe if you are lucky once in six months you get some mythic. I was in several guilds and some guilds would get mythics more often for some reason, others would never get a single one. But once again all endagmers do not need these mythics. I have never seen a really good mythic drop from these - it is usually something like Fallen Valdis.
The only resources that endgamers may still want and that will motivate them to donate gold are Dragonite, maybe some diamonds, and Gold Marks, Burning Marks, perhaps some purple orbs as those are the only useful ones at endgame. Maybe some deeds and the occasional book. Maybe some Underspire Lanterns once in a while.
Or they may feel altruistic and want to help their guild - but even for that the rewards are too paltry. More and better mythics need to drop, larger quantities of keys, diamonds, gems, major orbs, blue ascension orbs, pet orbs…
Also most casual guilds do not get past the Epic Tasks - so I am guessing the players with these huge amounts of gold are mostly in the hardcore guilds. These days there are not many left in the game as guilds are shrinking too.
What? Legendary Tasks??? @Kafka you must be joking, right?
April Fools’ day is a bit to early
Over 5+ years, I got 0 mythic troops from Legendary tasks.
What about to introduce an option to purchase 10 Burning Marks for, let’s say, 10K gold.
It looks like those marks are trendy now. That will be at least some gold usage.
What will happen if player donates over 2.164 billion to guild? Will the numer show negative value, as it’s integer 32 bits? Won’t there be an autoban?
Not quite true. Some people (like me) continue to play Delves on a daily basis. Admittedly, it’s mostly for a mapping project I suspect I’ll never publish, but still. It means I always have plenty of Chaos Shards for any new Faction/Faction Troop (my pool is usually around 80k-100k Chaos Shards), and my Hoards are all L225, except 8 still at L200 (I should get half of those up to 225 this week).
I agree about LTs not being convincing value. Even adding a low chance of Dragonite, Orbs of Minions and Glory, Burning Marks and/or Books of Deeds would motivate a lot of people. I would also consider reducing the randomness of Mythic drops by biasing towards Mythics that at least someone in the Guild doesn’t yet have 4 copies of (or any copies of).
As @Stroganrog says, introducing additional uses for Gold that help us acquire end-game resources we don’t have (similar to what you recently did with the weekly stellar dragon in Soulforge) would help such players.
OTOH, the medal conversion and treasure conversion recipes are such terrible value, I don’t think anyone in their right mind would use them!
All that said (in both my posts), I’m in the 10-15m Gold range, after contributing 5m to Guild tasks each week. And I’m spending on Hoard level goals. So technically, I wouldn’t be affected by most of our suggestions.
PS: You really do need to put all the random odds into the game itself. This includes Legendary Task drops, but also Gnome and Vault drops, and possibly some other stuff. I believe US law requires this.
PPS: While your solution with an expensive stellar dragon each week makes sense, I think you need to treat more drops somewhat like the Guardian drops. I would have done this for Gem and Cosmic Dragon Eggs, when people started complaining. But I would also do it with Tarot cards in the Vault. Basically, once someone has 4 copies of a Tarot card at L20 (or 9 copies at L19), the chance of that Tarot card dropping in the Vault should either go to zero, or be at least halved relative to other Tarot cards. This would help compensate the horrible effects of an ever-expanding troop pool.
The database is able to handle much higher amounts of gold, and is currently doing so.
The server is able to handle much higher amounts of gold, and is currently doing so.
The data transferred to the game client is able to handle much higher amounts of gold, and is currently doing so.
The issue is that when the game client parses the received data, it tries to force the gold amount into a 32bit integer, which results in a number conversion exception. This is TRIVIAL to fix, e.g. by pretending the received amount is 2 billion instead of just letting it crash.
1. Why do you hoard your Gold? -Because I like the fact of simply hoarding it. And as already discussed, all the ways we can spend gold on aren’t rewarding enough. The only thing I can think that’s decent on spending gold on is opening Gold Chests (at least they give you glory and gems, but yeah 15k gold at a time can be harsh, maybe improving this as well?)
2. Are your Kingdoms and Faction Hoards as high as you can get them without being blocked by non-gold related factors? -Yes, but at least for how I play, there’s not really a reason to overpump them
3. Is there a reason you don’t spend your Gold on Legendary Tasks for your Guild? If so, why?
-They’re simply NOT worth it. Adding Writs and Deeds / Dragonite / Burning and Gold Marks and generally all newer resources would be great
4. Do you have any ideas about how you would like to use MASSIVE amounts of Gold that would be more tempting to you than Legendary Tasks?
-Well anything that leads to newer and much needed resources like Dragonite/Deeds/Books/Gold Marks.
I am reminding you to this post: Game Progression, Rewards and Resources
Basically we need updated Cash Offers, the over-abundance of unused resources and how to maybe exchange them (for Gold maybe?) and in general more updated rewards for Weekly Events.
I am too poor for your questions, Kafka (mere 18M), but I can explain why I have at least that.
There is no meaningful way to spend the gold in the game. Look below.
All my kingdoms are blocked by resources on 500k, 1M max. There are no accessible books in game to go further. Well, dedicated farming/converting can push me further, but why? Prizes don’t worth it anyway.
Yes, I can drain everything to normal and Legendary tasks - but it looks like a simply stupid way to get rid of money. Some of tasks (Gems and gem keys) may worth it, but still too expensive to simply drain my gold single-handedly (I have a clan after all, right?!), while all others looks like I am buying bread for the price of crown jewels. Come on, 750k for 10 event keys?!
Late game has a heavy disbalance in resources. I cannot get rid of gold and souls, so I simply accumulate them. Same about Treasure Maps and Chaos Shards. But simultaneously, I never can get enough high-level keys or most resources from Forge. Diamonds, Dragonite, Books, Scrolls, Paloozas, Ingots, Cursed Runes, Orbs - all of that are extremely rare and cannot be purchased for abundant gold, souls or treasure maps. Maps are most useless resource in game now, actually, as they gives a very minor reward, not worthy of spent time.
So, obvious idea is to add any way to convert the items from the first group to the second one.
1. “Why do you hoard your Gold?”
I hoard gold for multiple reasons.
A. I place little value on legendary tasks, especially individual ones. It’s quite disheartening to throw a million gold into a legendary task and get 750 glory I don’t need (10M+ glory), traitstones (thousands or tens of thousand of those never to be used) and one gem key.
B. My guild has done at least until now an end of year LT bash. Not sure if that will happen this year, and if I didn’t, I wouldn’t really shed any tears if it didn’t. In prior years, I had sunk 100M-150M gold into that.
C. I have 400M+ gold for the same reason I have a horde of 12,500 regular Vault Keys. It gives me the feeling of wealth that real life will sadly never afford me.
D. If I ever decide I need to scale back my playing time in Gems, it is nice to know I can meet my guild’s 1.5M gold req for multiple years to come. This reason is also why I horde my gnome a palooza verses. “2. Are your Kingdoms and Faction Hoards as high as you can get them without being blocked by non-gold related factors? Or are they still able to be levelled and you haven’t done it?”
Mostly as high as I can get them. I haven’t decided which purple or yellow kingdom I want to level up next, so I am waiting until I can just get one to Kingdom to level 20. But for the most part I am blocked by non-gold related factors. I only have two factions left unfinished, one has a horde of 177 and the other has a horde of level 331. I think those are high enough, I don’t need to sink more gold into them, especially because the level 177 horde is Amanithrax, which is one of the easier ones. “3. Is there a reason you don’t spend your Gold on Legendary Tasks for your Guild? If so, why?”
As stated before, I don’t really value legendary tasks. But that’s not just for me. If all 29 members of my guild miss out on one gem key, or four glory keys, or heaven forbid, four event keys, I don’t think any of them will really notice. In the past few weeks, I have been sinking 1350 gems to buy tier 6 in weekly events. I think that does more to contribute to my guild than additional legendary tasks. “4. Do you have any ideas about how you would like to use MASSIVE amounts of Gold that would be more tmepting to you than Legendary Tasks?”
TBH, I’m less interested in how I can use the MASSIVE amount of Gold that I have, and more what I could do with the MASSIVE amount of souls that I have. I’m currently sitting on 54M souls, and I feel as though those are far more of an afterthought than the gold. I know the souls re used to medal troops, but I’m acquiring souls at a much faster rate than I am using them to medal troops, and I really wish I had something I could sink that into. Like Shiny keys or something. As much as I don’t value them, LT’s are a potential never ending sink of gold. There is a never ending ability to convert Glory to Gold and Glory Keys. But what about Souls?
