I have this ‘feeling’ that the change that was implemented a while back that was supposed to stop us seeing the same opponents/defense teams in PvP has somehow been reverted.
Personally it feels like whatever code was implemented at that time is now being ignored by the server matchmaking. Seeing lots of Fire Bomb teams again for one example.
I don’t have any ‘proof’ of this, doing hundreds of PvP battles every week is maybe enough to support this though?
Could just be stuck in a loop quite often though because none of us players really know the arcane secrets of PvP matchmaking
Several weeks ago, maybe end of last year or so (i don’t know anymore) i see that every enemy that i fight and kill, comes 2-3 fights later back for another fight. For a couple weeks this situation are normal. So, from time to time some (ninja)changes must be done.
Hey guys, please keep this thread on-topic as per the guidelines otherwise I’m going to have to move it into game feedback/suggestions. At the moment this is report about how the PVP matches are too similar. If you are commenting, please provide some information such as:
screenshots showing these similar teams
A list of the Troops on the team that were offered
How frequently you see X Troop repeated or X version of similar teams in a Gems of War week.
I play casual pvp to buff my event stones early and will see the same 20-30 options to fight over and over
Then yesterday doing 25ish ranked battles, I fought at least 4 of the same people twice in 3 trophy
To me, it’s not lack of variety of teams
I’m literally fighting the same players repeatedly, I’ve often fought X, followed by Y, then immediately back to X
I think the issue comes from the fact that u must be online and/or have played a pvp match very recently in order to have ur def team show up in PVP
If that req was removed, variety would be huge
To have your PvP defense show in the rotation. (As far as I know). The player only has to click on pvp at the beginning of the week.
There was a recent ninja change that stopped players from having their defenses register wins or losses until they have done at least 1 ranked PvP match. But as far as my understanding, their Defenses still show in the rotation even if they do casual PvP all week.
The issue of facing the exact same 30-50 oppponents all week has always been an issue. The diversity change wasn’t intended to do anything other than…
To make sure that all 3 defenses that you have an option of facing aren’t all exactly the same defenses.
Prior to it, you could see 4 fire Bombs for 1, 2 and 3 trophy matches all at the same time. The change in diversity was just to address that.
It would have been amazing for the devs to explain it as in depth as I did. To the best of my recollection. I believe they said “we changed PvP so you’ll see more defense options moving forward”.
‘has to have played PvP recently’ (always there) and
‘must not be the exact same team as other the options or ones played recently’ (recent change)
has narrowed the defence pool, with the result that we see the same player mere battles apart (as opposed to a different player with the same defence).
I’d take more screenshots, but I haven’t really been grinding PvP this week.
Here are the teams I got to choose from, advancing from nothing to about 2100 PvP points. These battles were fought between 1:40am and 2:50am AEST (Brisbane time) on 26th February.
I also tested reselection in Casual PvP. I didn’t play any matches; I just reselected opponents a bunch of times and screenshotted each one. This was between 2:50am and 2:53am AEST on 26th February.
Connecting lines join offers of the same opponent, though I may have missed some. In all these images, the order is across then down.
At first, looking through the first image (Ranked PvP) there seemed to be pretty good diversity both within and between selections.
Looking through the second image, I started to see a fair few repeats (of the same opponent, mere selections apart). Diversity of teams within the same selection still seemed pretty good, though (i.e. you never faced 3x Dragon Eye defences).
One part of a request could be for greater sensitivity to Hero Weapons, such that you only ever face Dragon’s Eye teams every second selection or greater .
I’d want more stats, and from multiple people - although perhaps being able to get sufficient intra-selection diversity in this small sample means that half of the issue isn’t always present.
One point is that perception is often just as important as fact. Humans are good at spotting patterns, which is why we notice when the same players keep coming around.
I’ve noticed explore has the same same teams, usually Yasmine Chosen/Aurora/(kingdom Legend+ troop) most likely for high HP. Not a problem, but if matching is same code or concept, I can certainly see it happen.
I have also seen less variety in pvp teams. It was annoying, but I just used a gem to repick. If you could hash function team troops are what and compare to each other, even if they aren’t same trait level, it might fix diversity picks. I would also add a pool of players in tier one higher than recent activity, solves depleted pools. They EXPECT to get revenge battles.
As far as I know, Explore is meant to be this way. I’ve read posts both recently and a while ago along the lines of: Explore opponents are meant to be three troops from the kingdom plus one random troop that’s very likely to be a recent release.
I like the idea of addressing a depleted pool of current players. To extend it, that could be one way of addressing the fact that I won’t get many Revenge battles if I only play one or two PvP battles per session (because I’ll have stopped before I’ve gone into the pool, been battled, then the battler has come into the pool for me to fight).
Why not just put a standard point system on all 3 tiers… Tier3 can be the tier with all the annoying respawn, transform, exta troop summons, but put a point value on it that with ever extra troop we earn the average points per troop killed that started… start at 60 points & go up… that woulb be an extra 15 point to the players for having to kill the extra troop & also do the same thing with the gold…
I’m on the XBox and have to make some space for screen shots (sorry for late response). Today I ran into the same team within 4 matches. Dragon slayer hero, claw dancer, satyr musician and scale guard. I also notice the same players swapping sides (left to right) at times. It would be nice to have more of a variety to fight. I don’t mind firebombs since it adds to the pool.
