Some players like to collect things, even when they are only cosmetic. Pets fall into that category, there’s a new one in the paid track of each campaign. We were promised that those pets would also be made available for everybody as part of a special Pet Rescue, after the campaign they appeared in ends. While this worked out at first, those special Pet Rescues seem to have gone missing entirely, with every question on what is going on remaining unanswered.
Please keep the promise, we’ve been waiting patiently for a very long time now. These are the pets still due their special Pet Rescue:
I fully support this as well. They need to schedule these cosmetic pets on Saturdays when a vault event isn’t scheduled. Players could probably get them eventually by spending money from Harper’s pet offer, but that’s a bit too greedy for me and many others.
I don’t support wasting a Saturday with a cosmetic unless they change it so proper pets can still drop. These should be on a weekday until that changes.
It’s not going to change. They’ve had at least 5 years of feedback in that regard, I don’t recall them even responding once.
There’s another option. Adding the cosmetic pet of the currently ending campaign to the pile makes this 14 missing pets. We were told by Jeto there’s a community week each year, with the one from last year being overdue. Just send us a copy of one of the pets each day, fits perfectly and doesn’t block a pet rescue.
Best solution would be, cancel the arena event weekend and introduce cosmetic pet weekend where pet gnomes only drop cosmetic pets. Or introduce a cosmetic pet gnome that can appear next to normal pet gnomes during this weekend event.
Yeah, feels like usually Harper offers more copies of cosmetic pets you already have, not a first copy of ones you don’t? at least that’s the offers I’ve been getting.
A couple of these have been in the weekly Pet Rescue event since this post was made Sorry, I am just discovering this thread now
For example:
Kitterfly - if they haven’t been before, they are in Oct
Beryldog - Feb 2025
Starlight - March 2025
I know we have the Harper offers now, but we do also have plans to update the Pet Rescue events in 8.9 as well, to help players who are hunting specific Pets..
I’ll follow up about some of these special event only pets in the meantime.
The Harper offer is cash only, which doesn’t really help to make paid campaign pets available to F2P players as promised.
Any details you could share about those Pet Rescue plans? As much as I’m aware, it will still exclude all campaign pets, it just allows us to choose between several pets we are already getting.
The team are currently investigating adding options to when a Pet Rescue is triggered, so you could pick between a couple of Pets.
As for the Weekly event, I am following this up with the team to see about these “special” pets appearing more.
Cosmetic Pets in these weekly events seem to not have been favoured in the past, as they are cosmetic only, but they are also needed for Kingdom Power and collections.
But like I said, the Campaign pets have appeared in Pet Rescues already!
I went through my account in detail today, taking notes and cross-checking against some of the statements higher up in this thread. Here’s a bit of what I found:
We’ve had 24 campaigns so far. (I get the 24 number both from counting cosmetic pests in totality and by counting the number of “campaign artifacts” sitting in my inventory.) I’m a 100% F2P player, so the only way I have to get my hands on the campaign pests is either if they were part of a special Wednesday/Saturday pest rescue or if they were somehow given out through an advent calendar or something.
(If they were available through an ordinary Pest Gnome-spawned rescue, I’d have them by now; that’s a consequence of being in a very active, very high-achieving guild.)
When I go through my “pests on hand”? I have four (4) of them: Kurandito (1st campaign), Mimicophagus (2nd campaign and recent Wednesday rescue), Quetzaltini (3rd campaign)…. and Beryldog (11th campaign). The other 20 are unowned; the only other pests I don’t own at this point are PvP Immortal pests for Immortals that I don’t have at high enough level.
According to @Jeto above, Kitterfly (7th campaign) and Starlight (6th campaign) may be on the schedule for the near future. (Plus Beryldog, who we’ve already gotten.) This is incremental progress and we should welcome it, but that still will mean an awful lot of these pests have never been available to a F2P player. And if the promise was that they would be, the developers are doing a piss-poor job of carrying through on that promise. Which makes me question if there was a real commitment to this, or if it was flapping gums from the developers in an attempt to quiet the grumbling.
On the bright side, it’s not like I require those pests for kingdom level progression; I’m stuck mostly on Books of Deeds but also on Elite troops after that. (Though the latter is an easier problem to grind through than the former.) But the OCD completionist in me is still offended by the juxtaposition between the expressed sentiments that we’d get these cosmetic campaign pests and the lack of follow-through.
Don’t tell me about your wonderful intentions. Show me that they’re more than empty words.
Okay, let’s analyze this a bit more in detail. Campaign to pet matching may be slightly off.
Campaign 1: Kurandarito made available in some special way, possibly crafting
Campaign 2: Mimicophagus, run twice
Campaign 3: Quetzaltini, run once
Campaign 4: Missing
Campaign 5: Missing
Campaign 6: Missing
Campaign 7: Missing
Campaign 8: Missing
Campaign 9: Missing
Campaign 10: Missing
Campaign 11: Beryldog, run twice
Campaign 12: Missing
Campaign 13: Missing
Campaign 14: Missing
Campaign 15: Missing
Campaign 16: Missing
Campaign 17: Missing
Campaign 18: Missing
Campaign 19: Missing
Campaign 20: Missing
Campaign 21: Missing
Campaign 22: Missing
Campaign 23: Missing
Campaign 24: Too early, campaign still ongoing
A better wording would have been that of the many campaign pets that were supposed to have appeared in Pet Rescues so far, next to none actually did.
As much as I’m aware we got the standard pet Feyrie instead of Starlight.
The really annoying thing is that campaign pets being restricted to the paid pass was brought up right when the first campaign launched roughly 5 years ago. We were assured that everybody would be able to obtain them as special Pet Rescue after a short delay, each new campaign released has been claiming that ever since. We’ve also asked quite a few times about the status, which somehow always resulted in the whole Community Team experiencing Spontaneous Selective Topic Blindness.
Oh no, I totally acknowledge that there are 24 campaigns and I have just mentioned like 3 from the past years of scheduling posts I handle, so I was able to check.
As for this comment
Can’t deny that communication within the team previously was a bit all over the place, as different team members handled different topics, and that may have not been documented for others to follow up on or take over, etc. So there will be some threads or discussions that are older in the community, but are ones I am digging back through to try and get on top of.
This being one of them.
This one seems to be one of the special cases. Going by gut feeling, there was an internal decision roughly a year into campaigns that those pets should rather be monetized instead, e.g. as part of the Harper offer. And since breaking that to the community would have caused a whole lot of unrest, none of the officials ever dared to go near those topics. Just a somewhat experienced guess though.
