Card redesign difficult for accessibility

The acknowledgement that action needs to be taken. They could at least make the numbers larger. That shouldn’t be too hard.

Hanlon’s razor, “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”

They wouldn’t spend so much time on redesigns and underspire and everything else if they wanted to kill the game. Too much time and money spent.

I can’t recall the last time i had this much fun making my eyes bleed playing a game.

I am 27 years old my eyes aren’t even that bad and even I struggle with readability. Especially the stats and mana count. Why would u have multiple different colors for mana if all stats were in simple white it would be waaaay better for me already. As trying to read green on green or yellow on yellow is horrible. There should be more consideration to people who struggle with eyesight issues

I too are struggling to see what’s going on with the new card designs. The life and Armor stats are too small and coupled with being coloured on a coloured background makes it so hard to actually see how much life or Armor is remaining I find myself not even bothering to check. My eyes are drawn toward the attack stat which is more clearly visible and in the normal place but it is not what I am looking for nor need to keep an eye on mostly. The troop type is also partly obscured by the stupid trait dots so you can’t clearly see it. The traits themselves are not clear to see once they have been unlocked, just a white title instead of greyed out. Would have been better if they had left those coloured. The troops rarity is no longer clearly visible at a glance, they all just look the same unless you focus on the bit at the bottom of the card which again makes more work for us. Medalled troops are also no longer clearly visible. This graphic change is a very poor thing to roll out especially for people with poor eyesight or colour blindness and is just poor in general for everyone else even if they don’t suffer from those conditions. I have been enjoying this game nearly since it’s release and have been happy to spend money on it regularly but now I’m afraid you will be getting no more cash from me unless this eyesore is rectified. I can also foresee myself playing a whole lot less than I used to and I think a lot of others feel the same. Well done

I encourage anybody on the development team with global reading powers to go check out xbox global since this release. I’m on global 1 there alot and there is a solid stream of people i’ve never seen before popping up asking why the in game cards are unreadable now. Talking about headaches and eye strain and how they can’t play the game for more than an hour or so.

This isn’t just a few people on the forums complaining it’s all over the in game chat too. Developers need to fix this fast because it’s really bad.

I’m not disabled, retired, old, differently abled, nada- but playing on a Series X with a 55" screen and a 65" screen (I have more than 1 xbox in different rooms of my house) and I still can’t see. I have stood a foot away from the screen to read the numbers but then I have to back up to see the gems part. SO SO DUMB.

This game is now headache inducing. I have been playing since this game came around and I have supported it- loved some of the updates, hated some of the updates, but it never made me physically ill.

I’m kinda just playing blind now. I can’t even try to like this update. How do you make a game stop giving headaches??

If they can’t fix this, I can’t play. And, that makes me sad.

“Nifty” as an aesthetic value may vary, but it shouldn’t skirt so close to ‘garish’.

And yes, this affects reading and playing the cards, even for players blessed by perfect sight.

Functionality over aesthetics!!! What’s more aesthetically pleasing to you, isn’t for everyone else. Why change the troop layout to look like they do in so many other games? This isn’t those games, if I wanted to see it like that I would go play those games instead. Enemy troop armor/health is such an important part of battles, that those stats should be big and right up front to EASILY SEE.

ADA Title II & Title III Requirements for Websites

Dec 4, 2016

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a comprehensive federal civil rights law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability. Titles II and III of the ADA prohibit discriminatory lack of access for individuals with disabilities to goods and services of public services and public accommodations, respectively. Title II extends a prohibition on discrimination to the activities of state and local governments regardless of whether such entities receive federal financial assistance. Title III prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in places of public accommodation.

The Department of Justice (DOJ), the agency charged with implementing the provisions of Titles II and III has stated in lawsuits and structured settlements that “no individual shall be discriminated against on the basis of disabilities in the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations of any place of public accommodation

From 505 Games (Gems of War) Terms of service: " 11. JURISDICTION AND DISPUTES

You agree that any claim or dispute you may have against Publisher must be resolved exclusively by a state or federal court located in Los Angeles County, California. You agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of the courts located within Los Angeles County, California for the purpose of litigating all such claims or disputes. If you reside in a Member State of the European Union or any other Country other than the United States: (i) the laws of England, excluding its conflicts-of-law rules, govern this Terms of Service and your Account(s); and (ii) you expressly agree that exclusive jurisdiction for any claim or dispute with Publisher or relating in any way to your Account(s) or your use of Games and/or Services resides in the Courts of England and you further agree and expressly consent to the exercise of personal jurisdiction in the courts of England in connection with any such dispute including any claim involving Publisher or its affiliates, employees, contractors, officers, directors, vendors and content providers."

I guess it is time to make a report to the California Attorney General.

Yes well, in my opinion the new design is naff as opposed to nifty, but whoever made the decision must either think they look good, or imagine players will think that. They even describe them as “aesthetically pleasing” in the update. It’s amusing some of the pictures now don’t fit on the cards/are back to front and the troop type doesn’t fit on the card anymore either when there is more than one. No doubt they will make it smaller at some point, but then it will be illegible, like the rest.

Reducing the three stupid lozenges to dots already would help. Putting back the white background to texts too.
Some sign if we are facing a mythic or a common card would help too, not everyone has years of playing under their belts.

And do we want to talk of the enormous green chevron flashing over the troops of the week while in battle?

Well there will always be those that aren’t in liking to new things I guess so a downgrade is going to be due then as much as I myself loving everything about this update TROOP design especially and for those that think this is towards TV/console player’s with all due respect I am seeing no issues with reading text’s and all data that are on troops on a Galaxy S22 ultra I really not seeing the issue here just seems to be more hate than anything as per usual with an update…

Still no sign of the ‘devs’.

Some people have issues with the cards due to eyesight/migraine, rather than just not liking how they look, but even for people who can see them fine, they are jumbled and non-intuitive.

I doubt they will say anything other than they won’t change it back. That was all that was uttered in respect to the Epic Trials - another example of fixing what wasn’t broken and replacing it with something no one wanted, lol.

Do base Mythics still sparkle when the battle starts?

Me, I am early 40s myself and I do not generally suffer eyestrain or nausea from monitors, though I have experienced it on some occasions. I have my monitor on its lowest brightness setting, have several apps (and OS in general) configured for “dark theme”, and have plenty of ambient illumination in the room.

So the new aesthetic doesn’t cause me any new problems, but I do play on Switch primarily in handheld mode and its screen never occupies more than, say 1/5th my total horizontal field of view (compared to my laptop which occupies up to 1/3 or 1/4th).

And I definitely empathize with anyone who does suffer screen-induced strain. Bright, vivid colors are more prone to this than neutral tones.

You’re probably right Slotharingia, I doubt they will admit where they’ve mucked up. All of us have basically paid for this with all the money we shell out every month. If they know what’s good for them then they ought to fix it or else they’ll likely lose a ton of funds in future from people who refuse to pay out on a game they can no longer see clearly.

I’m not asking for them to revert the changes. I’m asking for an option in the settings to switch back to the old design. It shouldn’t be that hard. And like I said in my original post, trying to play on battles where I need to look at the cards is causing actual pain. I feel like that’s not too much to ask and frankly, it’s insulting to imply “I’m fine so everyone is lying.”
