Actually you CAN capture it in action.

Before you cast, the info screen about the pistol should show your gold, the damage, and what the boosted amount will be. Then, when you use the pistol, it will do some damage. You can take screenshots of both (or videos, on modern devices), and we can verify if the numbers match.

Damage is not boosted, the amount of gems destroyed is boosted by gold collected.
With 0 gold it destroys 5 random gems and for every 4 gold it destroys 1 more additional gem.
It is working just like it says on the card
