Alliance Ranks Shouldn't Be Reset Every Season

I might be stupid. I don’t understand 2 Immortals in a season.

I’m even less invested in making progress in Immortals because the Immortal pool is going to get too bloated

Especially now that we know how irrelevant Immortals are to most of us: they can expect ~20-25% of my PvP activity this season as compared to the last one, and zero chance of buying or recommending the PvP season pass to guildies.

Alliance Ranks Should Not Have Been Reset.

@AMT I don’t disagree that they can be farmed. I just put on my tin foil hat to see how they could justify keeping them in the drop.
To be clear they should be in the drop especially now they pollute thf immortal pool with 2 new ones. If they want people to buy the chests they need to remove the guff drops.

Official Confirmation despite all the feedback against Ranks Resetting: adjust playing effort accordingly.

I saw someone hit 800k in the last day. I felt bad for them

That’s gotta sting: however, we all keep on learning what can and can’t be expected from IP2, & the ears on the ground suggest not a high percentage of season 1 pass buyers will get the season 2 pass. (who could have thought opening dud chests would deter purchases?)

As usual, much avoidable if customer feedback was actually heard and implemented.

I think what’s going on is they want to follow every other game’s idea of a season pass which is a new season of rewards starting from the beginning. Usually a new season is supposed to bring excitement to a game as a time to try something new, reclimb the ladder, get new rewards etc. That part makes sense.

The biggest problem is that Gems of War’s pvp season passes take way longer than most other games by a considerable margin (basically every other game I know) to gather all of the rewards.

I’m sure someone will “well actually” me on some random match 3 phone game with a longer battle pass.

The way Gems of War and these Seasons are currently structured, it would make more sense if they reset only 50% of the VP per season (and get rid of those Icons).

The ones that don’t have that much progress won’t be set back much and the ones that overachieve have a path to start a new season with the upper rewards available.

Ways to improve the situation (and therefore sales of the Pass) abound, as do the corresponding suggestions in this forum.

Due to precedent on how much user feedback is actually listened to, not gonna waste time creating a list of suggestions on how to improve the overall PvP Season Design, so just going to reiterate once again the absurdity of Resetting Alliance Ranks and the detrimental effect it has on gameplay (surely with some small outlier subset of players who will chase the top rank every season):

  • VP can be reset every season, without forcing us to lose our Alliance Rank, in the same way that I can have 2500 Faction Renown and still start a Tuesday Faction Assault at Level 10.
  • The “Promoted” PvP goal can be changed to “Reach X VP during this season”, so existing Alliance Ranks do not overlap with that goal.
  • Alliance Rank daily rewards are insignificant enough that no economy is being broken here.

But first they would need to stop conflating Seasonal VP and Alliance Ranks, and nothing so far indicates that they are aware of how much of an obvious issue this is to actual players, and instead they are “collecting data”, a method whose effectiveness has been seen in how much Journey has ‘improved’.

When changing an alliance, you need 100 days before the final. This is cruel… 800 OP is a small problem

Now that Gold Marks are bordering on useless for End Gamers, maybe we could revisit allowing us to keep our max Alliance rank instead of resetting it every season?

Or at the very least some form of perma-title/frame/whatever, that shows that a player has actually attained a specific rank at some point in time, irrespective of their activity level during the ongoing season..

We have similar things for highest PvP ranks:

I think this should be revisited as well. On the other hand, I never thought it was a good thing to reset alliance ranks to begin with.

The amount of VP I earn is now much lower compared to when the PVP system was reworked. This means I need to do more battles for the same amount of VP and getting 800,000 VP per season is a good way to burn out your players. I’m not going to say a player shouldn’t go that far if they want those benefits, but requiring it every 11 weeks for max rewards is ridiculous.

There is an argument though that since gold marks have lost some of their value, we only have to worry about getting 80,000 VP per season for the shiny keys. Naturally, if someone cares about PVP, they will do a lot more than that and this will mean getting more rewards in the process.

In my opinion, really, more players would care about PVP if their alliance ranks weren’t reset and weekly VP is a different conversation altogether.

The fact the developers have not commented on this topic or have taken our considerations into account, means that they do not care. Most players have realized that gold marks are not really that valuable anymore, so the PvP seasonal goals and rewards are not worth the time we have to invest to get them.

“What are you guys talking about?” “There are so many things to buy with gold marks!”

You guys seriously need to take more than 5 minutes to realize how important deed books and Imperial deeds were to us in the PvP shop and make Merchants and Angels offer Crystals. Trying to limit kingdom progress with paid offers is probably the worst scam that has been created in this game now.

Back when this topic was created, the ‘mod’ in charge of forums wasn’t nearly as transparent or responsive as Jeto: a reason why I necroed this is because I’m hoping for Jeto to at least put this issue in one of their lists of design choices that the player base might want to see reviewed..

Even so, holding onto the hope of keeping our Alliance ranks for 7 seasons can be emotionally draining. I appreciate your spirit, but for this gamer, the continued signs of disrespect and negligence have worn me down.

After this PvP season, we have 3 more to go, then we will see what they decide when we no longer have to deal with this. But I already have an idea of what will happen. More micro-transactions. New resources. More power creep. Outside of Guild Wars, the game is so easy now that none of the new content really matters to me.

I am in the minority because Arena actually makes me think and carefully construct teams. [Insert Dragon/Immortal here] and destroy everything is boring, repetitive, and teaches you nothing, but it is sadly the best way to get your Alliance ranks back.

this has been passed on as a qol

This is feedback I have shared since 9.2 released but the team are still monitoring how things like PvP and other offers have been affected by deeds and writs being removed.
So, I imagine, at the moment, there is no change coming, until the team has some actual data about how players behaviours change post 9.2 and then would go from there

Has the team ever considered maybe they’re just a little slow on responding to change?

For how long it took Journey to be adjusted, it festered way longer than it needed and it was obvious to players quite long before the team adjusted anything.

I mean yeah, getting things changed is really slow. It’s an unfortunate effect of the process of game development, in a studio/team of our size, that also is not self published.

Hopefully they will see player activity go down, along with less purchases next PvP season because that might be the only thing they might actually understand without going back and forth on this topic.

Since Crystals are not offered in the PvP shop, the time and money spent on gold marks are simply just not worth it. Dragonite is easy enough to get from other sources, and Shiny Keys do not have much value because one might only get 300 kingdom exp here and there.

And as a high level player, it takes me about 5,500+ battles to get back to Great General. And for some shiny keys? I would rather get out and enjoy life with my family and friends when I get some time off work.

You’re ignoring the pets and minion orbs. Those plus the shiny keys can help finish some tasks and level up kingdoms. So some people will see that as enough, but I get where you’re coming from, that there’s better stuff to be doing.

Gold mark Pets have been out for quite awhile, and minion orbs were always…there. And it’s honestly easy enough to get all the gold mark pets just by collecting gold marks if you are in the Dark Alliance. (They honestly should just remove the 100 gold marks for the minion orbs so that people could farm them to catch up on their pet progress without relying on Guild events and Underspire).

But Alliance ranks should definitely not reset. Especially now. When people stop buying PvP passes, and there are less players, maybe we will get some more respect.
