Update 8.9 Patch Notes

This error is bringing up the same code as this issue

“CLIFFY Error when facing an opponent with Wand of Stars and Stellarix, but they are not transformed”

Currently, I am waiting to find out if it’s just that the error logged looks the same as the Wand of Stars/Stellarix not transforming error or if the error is the same and it is actually just for any troop getting or failing to get transformed.

With a public holiday tomorrow, I don’t think I will get any answers in the next couple of days as the issue above has been ongoing prior to 8.9

Unless they also mail every player a bunch of pets as compensation, I doubt that would go down well. However, it might be preferable to having players crashing their game over and over during GAPs, which use resources they’d then be demanding returned. Either way, they probably need to do something, not just leave it broken. Fingers crossed they can fix it before then, though.

Hi everyone! Does anyone know how to unlink an account from a Steam device? I want to link another account to Steam to unlock a new achievement (I don’t want to leave the guild on my main account). But when I simply activate the new account, the old one gets locked, requiring me to submit a support ticket. I remember there was an option to hold “Alt + F6” or something like that when launching the game.

When first starting up Gems of War, try pressing SHIFT + 6
Once you see the loading bar is active you should be able to link your account from there.

Please revert the changes to the troop upgrade screen UI.

No disrespect intended, but it is not an upgrade and only introduces even more screens that are difficult to read on lower resolutions.

Reply to self. Doubling down on the upgrader. This is horrible. I have wasted good items I had no intention of using as my upgrade materials. Color me angry.

PLEASE revert to the old system. I only have a limited time on earth to play. I don’t want to waste it with confusing fluff.

Another thing. Last week I didn’t really look at ‘upgrade to max’ button but did so today and…well, completely agree with what @TheIdleOne said on the other thread. It’s only a matter of time before power orb gets pressed and also confirmed instead of normal upgrade, especially, if using a touchscreen. Might not be particularly a problem for people with baby-size fingers; unfortunately, I’m not one of them.

There should be clear spatial separation between normal upgrade/power orb buttons, so one of two things could be done. Either follow blue arrows and move the buttons to sides instead of having them one above the other, or replace redundant level up button from the troop opening screen (since leveling up is now placed on the same screen as unlocking traits and ascending) with max upgrade button; that would prevent accidental power orb usage altogether and you’d only have to enter deeper menus for elite level upgrades or if you want to specifically use orbs instead of normal resources.

Thank you so much! Everything worked out. It’s a shame I didn’t have time to register for this GW.

Wow the people concentrating on the troop upgrade menu n paragon achievement when we pretty much got double the sf n triple the pets.

They will fix it prolly chill. N im usually on their top about everything

Devs change paragon achievement to complete a set or beat the palace. Fix any bugs related to pet picking. N the upgrade menu….people complain if you give them a new car for free n it the wrong color so put that one last but i guess they dont like it. I was trying to let it grow on me instead of jumping out the window n less than a week but thats your impatient big spenders tho…

  1. Remove the Paragon achievement. Many of my friends, myself included, are considering starting our own guild just to get this achievement. We’re quite annoyed about it.
  2. Thanks for the pet update, but what about the Menagerie? I’ve bought every pet offered in the Menagerie so far, and now I feel a bit ripped off.
  3. The button with the white power orb needs to go. You accidentally click on it and then get incredibly frustrated.

Addendum: I was able to get the achievement very easily by being the first to play guild wars. Players should coordinate within the guild to allow others to obtain the achievement in this way.

Loving the general QoL updates, but the upgrade screen is atrocious. Way too easy to accidentally click an orb.

Has the ‘Ascend All Troops’ option gone missing? :slightly_frowning_face:

The notes didn’t mention adding more restrictions to the Guild Announcement text too, and the restrictions are bizarre. A message for event targets I’ve used many times over the years was now blocked, with no apparent reason why. I thought maybe it was the punctuation, since the error message mentioned special characters (and I was nowhere close to 255 characters long), but that was not it.

After playing around with it for a few minutes I was able to determine that putting any number starting with 10 after the word “Minimum” was not allowed. Whether I put 10000 or 10k or even just 10 would be blocked. I guess that must be swearing in some language or something…

Inserting “of” between them making it “Minimum of 10000” made it be allowed.

Not sure if anyone has picked this up but the patch notes say the Soulforge will update twice a week at weekly reset and then Thursday reset.

According to the count down timer under the troops in the soulforge, it will update Friday reset.

Im assuming maybe the patch notes are incorrect and should of said Friday rest.

It is still Thursday on the US west coast with the fall back time change. And all year in Alaska and Hawaii.

Hi Jeto, a message for your return this Wednesday after the public holiday. We need to know if your company has decided on the removal of the Paragon achievement, it’s urgent, because by Sunday it will be too late. We can’t tell a player who is about to earn the achievement on Sunday that it won’t be validated on Monday, it has to be removed before then. I’m repeating what I and others have already said: this achievement should never have been created, it’s pure madness. You are light years away from understanding all the damage you are going to do to the guilds, both now and in all future Guild Wars. Since no one in your company plays your own game, that’s fine, everyone has their own personal choices, but therefore you also don’t know the life of our guilds. Our guilds are a very fragile ecosystem, which we guild leaders must manage carefully and do everything for the well-being of our players, as it has become so difficult to recruit and retain players to constantly have 30 members, since over the last 5 years, a very large number of veterans have permanently left your game. And in this fragile system, you decide to drop a bomb into every guild, it’s crazy. Several players in my guild have confirmed that keeping all achievements at 100% is a top priority for them. So you are telling all these players to leave our guilds to create their own temporary guild, all to complete a destructive achievement in one week. And when they want to return to the guilds, these players will have lost all their stats, all their seniority days, they will not have participated in the week’s event, so it’s the other players who will have to compensate, and the deserters risk jeopardizing the daily GW victories. And do you think that if they ever come back, they will be well received by the players who stayed? You are going to create enormous negative tensions between players and headaches for the guild leaders. I’m not even talking about those who will want to be allowed to win if some players have already achieved success; it’s totally unmanageable for guild leaders. Is this really what your company wants for the future of your game and our quality of life? Your Paragon system will negatively impact 100% of guilds. Let’s even take the example of the top 10 guilds in the world, where surely everyone has the ability to reach Paragon rank at some point. So, in these guilds, in a hypothetical world of perfect harmony, if a rotation of Paragons is organized, knowing that there are only 13 Guild Wars per year for 30 players, that means that some players will have to wait 2 or 3 years for an achievement they could accomplish in a week by leaving the guild. Someone at your company clearly didn’t think this through when this madness was decided and implemented. I seriously doubt your ability to reverse this decision because you may not understand the extreme gravity of the situation, but I still hope that reason will prevail within your company. Sincerely

The achievement has not been discussed, but it has been passed on as feedback. As in, currently there has been no discussion on that feedback further.
Currently attending to other issues at the moment.

What a truly pathetic and disdainful response. It’s a shame that you and your management haven’t grasped the seriousness of this situation. Continue to remain in denial and keep your eyes and ears closed. I think this issue will resurface on the forum in the coming days, weeks, and months, when your bomb explodes within some of the guilds and a number of players leave their guilds. Keep going down this path, offering us more surprises like this; you’re well on your way to sabotaging your own game. Well done!

Just for like full transparency, there is a heap of bugs I would rather the two devs who work on GOW full time look at, than get them to spend time to change an achievement. Changing an achievement, in no way, is a quick and small change to make.

And it would still need a client update and to be resubmitted to all platforms etc. Feedback around an achievement at the moment, is not a higher priority to resolve, than things like CLIFFY errors, rewards not being mailed out, the mobile notification issue, etc.

Those bugs needing to be addressed are what are affecting gameplay and players experience, above not being able to currently unlock an achievement.

I say this as a dedicated trophy hunter since the earliest PS3 days:

Your guildmates and anyone else freaking out over Paragon just need to let it go.

GoW has never been a game well-suited for full completion: Geoff gold medals, hoard mimics, Immortals, outdated/broken achievements needing a fix, etc. Anyone still obsessed with 100% completion in 2025 should know to stay far far away from this game to begin with.

I agree with you that it’s an ill-conceived trophy but all the histrionics about bombs exploding and ‘the seriousness of this situation’? Again, as someone who used to chase 100%’s zealously himself, just let it go. I promise you that no one but the trophy hunter themself cares one bit about someone else’s score/profile. And if it’s causing someone that much anguish they should probably examine the role of trophy hunting in their gaming habits.

While I completely agree that bugs are the highest priority, and hope you manage to get them fixed soon, I can’t help but point out that all of these are bugs created by recent patches, that were immediately identifiable and should have been noticed before the patches were put out, and fixed before they were pushed into games. There was no reason for them to have been missed, as far as I can see (admittedly as an outsider).
The time being spent now trying to undo the damage caused by those patches, could have been spent before release, and the game would have been better for it.
Players have been complaining about this for ages, how broken updates get pushed onto us and then we have to wait ages for them to get unbroken (we’re still waiting for many of them to get some attention, seriously).

I appreciate some of the stuff this patch improved, but there was nothing that couldn’t have waited a little longer, and we could have got a patch that actually fixed the stuff it claimed to have fixed, and not added almost as many bugs as it claimed to have fixed.
I’m not blaming you, just hoping this gets passed on as feedback. Players are sick of broken patches and bugs being added that never get fixed. So, I’m glad you’re saying bug-fixing is high priority, and hope that means we’ll actually get fixes that work and don’t make more problems.
