Update 8.9 Patch Notes

I tried to accept the changes to the new troop upgrade menu when I bought the new bounty troop from the shop, but man…So many unnecessary menus, too much information, and an overcomplicated mess. (You can’t even scroll through your medals to upgrade your troop on the Switch and have to use the touch screen).:man_facepalming:

It’s like the new troop upgrade menu was designed by people who never actually play this game…Oh wait…it was…

How can the troop order sorting be so ridiculously awful. Has literally no one tested this??? Its impossible to find troops that are available for ascension

Also, why spend so much time on something that already looked good? This has been happening since the early GoW days.

People are still missing the old map and card layouts.

The time and resources spent on “updating” the troop menu could have been spent on QOL features like being able to see what scrolls Tower of Doom rooms are after a guildmate has cleared them. We have been asking for that feature for years, and it honestly was probably easier to implement than the troop upgrade mess, which is even worse for newer players…

So many things could be done instead man. Also have a function which allows you to keep the explore level and no need to select it all over again after each run.

I am not a chronic complainer, but the latest update left a lot to be desired… The new troop menu is terrible and worked fine in the previous version. Sorry to be a nay-sayer on this one Jeto.

It’s just a matter of getting used to the troop update, folks. I’m managing just fine. By that I mean, sometimes it’s better to study slowly than to correct!

@jeto Hi there - it’s some visual issue in a russian client - points are cut and so does a valraven sigils (in ToD at least)

The same with Citadel Points in Russian.

@Jeto Hi there. I would like to inform that clicking onto the traitstone icon to display the kingdom that has it when traiting a troop, no longer works. Previously, we were able to click onto the traitstone and guide us to whichever kingdom that has it. Is this a bug or the function has been removed temporarily?

@edwina I made a bug report for you so it will be reported.

Another change snuck in to this update, not mentioned in the patch notes, as far as I can see, was that the guild admin menu got changed. The first page has been moved around and made all gold, for some reason. Looks like they started redoing the menu and ran out of time, so left it part-way done, or something.
How much did they do and not include in the patch notes?

Some of that rework was to add the self-service guild name change.

Hey. Another aggravation on this new upgrade UI.

It’s been pointed out to me where to find the Orb listing and thank you very much for that. But where inside that screen can I find the “base rarity” of the troop? It used to be listed in those windows pretty easy to find; now I either have to remember what it was before I went into the troop listing or I have to reverse engineer it from the percentages a Medal provides.

Am I missing something, or am I required to actually do some “work” now on that end?

Changes to pet rescue are fine (just fix the cliffy errors that occur defeating a Pet gnome while pet rescue is already active and get pet rescue to refresh properly ingame).

Soulforge change is just kicking the can further down the road without actually addressing the underlying problem; it’s, however, better than nothing for the time being.

You add an achievement that will be unachievable for most of the playerbase? Cool, you’re so generous! Do it again! We demand more! (Ehh, that’s sarcasm, in case it’s hard to understand. The achievement is utter piece of a substance.)

Troop upgrade menu…

Make #1 button more visible. I clicked on #2 quite a few times when navigating my casual account that has a lot of troops to upgrade before noticing that #1 button was there.

This is sure downgrade from what we had before. More medals (preferably all of them) should be visible in a single screen without needing to navigate arrows or scroll and all glory orbs should be visible at once so that I can decide how I want to upgrade my troop without looking and searching through extra screens.
Possibility to use orbs directly from respective upgrade tab without going to a separate orb screen is a good and welcome thing, though. Thumbs up for that.

And the biggest elephant in the room - why in the name did you break sorting screen?

You clearly see what the banner says…where are the ascendable troops, then? (I do have some on that account.) And how am I supposed to ascend, for example, Ace of Cups? Sorting must go back to the way it was before the update.
Then there is also this from my main account:

Spot the things that don’t belong! You are right - Immortals. What are they doing on this screen if I can not perform a single action on them? I can not use souls, I can not use traitstones, I can not use orbs, I can not use medals…heck, even if I had respective immortal souls to use I still wouldn’t want them to mix with normal troops; you made them so different from everything else, so keep them in a different place and don’t mix upgrading immortals with upgrading ordinary stuff.

Honestly, why do the medal icons need to be so big on that screen? They could be half the size and fit most or all of them in the one screen, without losing any information. We don’t need to see some pretty picture of what the medal looks like on the screen where we’re spending them to upgrade a troop. We need to see a) how many we have, b) what percentage chance (to raise an elite level) it gives, c) the name, and preferably d) what the medal does. If you want the picture, shrink it down to a quarter of the size and stick it in the top left corner, then resize the box to fit and it would be way better.

Hey, devs. How can most of us on the forum point out exactly how to change these menus to make them look better, and work easier for players, but whoever you pay to redesign them has no idea what they’re doing. Just fire them and hold regular contests for 1000 gems to whoever comes up with the best redesign, or something. You could even let forum users vote and use that as part of the decision making. It’d save you money, time and negative reactions. Sure, you’d need someone to code it, and that might be the same person, but you’d definitely cut their workload and you could make them do other stuff in the time you save, or whatever.

Good point. I want to know what is also the point of the giant troop on the left and the microscopic medal icons, or all the other screens with the giant left sided screen? It’s just almost to the point where it’s best not to even bother looking at what needs upgrading.

It’s awful to look at.

Managed to catch 2 bugs on video here: https://youtu.be/WWW4Pw2KXC4

Firstly, at the start of the video, I finish a battle, go to start another one and then remember to exit out to check if tribute is ready. At that point, a pet rescue notification arrives, saying 58 minutes left. So, the message should have arrived as I finished that first battle, but didn’t, meaning I could have continued battling and missed the rescue.
Then, after collecting tribute, I start the pet rescue battle, and get a pop-up in the corner, saying I have a message. I open chat, and it shrinks the battle down, which is supposed to have been fixed, but hasn’t been. I exit the battle and the reward screen and menu is also shrunk. Only by returning to the main map and re-entering the pet rescue menu do I reset the bug and resize everything.

Nope. Not fixed.

Also, worth noting, next Vault Weekend is 21st-23rd and lots of players will be using GAPs in PvP during that time. We need to have the cliffy error fixed before then, or huge numbers of game crashes will occur, as players repeatedly get pet gnomes, defeat them, trigger the bug and crash their game. Basically PvP will be largely unplayable during the weekend if it keeps crashing the game.
It also needs to not prompt the pop-up to pick the pet, at all, when there is already a pet rescue active, because that’s just something else to slow players down during the GAP, which will annoy players, especially since they won’t actually get what they’re picking. The pet rescue choice menu should only appear if no pet rescue is active. Hopefully, that’s the expected behaviour and it will get fixed to do that.
