3? The picture on the help page shows the top of a 4th now, and a scroll bar that suggests at least another 3 after that. I’d assume we now have 6-8 tasks to complete. And each task has three levels, with each level giving a reward. Not sure if that’s per week or expected to be done over the whole campaign though (the bottom of the picture shows “Campaign ends in: 60d 06h” so hopefully over the whole campaign).
From the image, the tasks give specific rewards, such as deeds. The stars now only upgrade the artifact, nothing else.
I see that as possibly better (we’ll see), cus it means you can do your 100 battles anywhere every week and finish the campaign. And then, separately you can choose to do the tasks, if you want the specific rewards shown. As long as it isn’t increasing the workload, that makes it easier to pick what you care about and do that.
Like, the picture on the help page shows the grave keeper task requires you to match skulls, and you get a treasure troop as a reward. If you don’t care about delves, you could skip/ignore that task and focus on others (though you’ll probably auto-complete it just by playing).
[EDIT: If it matches the 9 tasks in PvP, which it looks very similar to, it’ll be annoying having to keep claiming tasks whenever they pop up, so you can make progress on the next task, rather than just waiting and claiming everything. And having all these tasks spread out everywhere with pop-ups that make it tricky to tell what just completed, is probably gonna be annoying. If they keep adding all these tasks, we might need a location that manages them all, where you can go and see which have tasks complete, and maybe claim all from there.]
My completely unproven conspiracy theory is that the reason Campaigns are tweaked so often as opposed to other modes is because they are currently GoW’s biggest money-maker. As far as I know, Campaigns have the best bang for your buck due to having books of deeds and a few other nice resources. I’m guessing IP2 wants to capitalize on them as much as possible by making them simple as possible (“you’re already easily earning the stars, why not throw $10 in for significant rewards?”).
Whether that’s the case or not - and I have exactly zero evidence to back it up - I’m glad they’re not just making the paid rewards overpowered, which would be far simpler to code but lean more into P2W territory.
Is there any level of confidence that they’re even keeping the free path at a similar reward rate?
If anything, they are making the paid rewards more overpowered… spoilers already show the campaign mythic is something that can be made shiny… only saved by the fact that this particular mythic’s spell is underpowered and the shiny effect is hyper narrow AND worthless due to its own trait. However one of these days, the shiny will matter and at the very least 2 mana less on the cast is a positive on this one if ever forced to use this thing.
And even then i think more players are becoming like me. I take a weak off from pvp and drop to ruby then do a week on to get top spot. Competing in diamond league requires too much time. All diamond league is is a contest of who has more time, its not difficult for players with most of the troops.
Looking at the past campaign, they’ve already tried to remove the most popular reward (books) from the free track. After enough pitchforking this was eventually called a configuration mistake caused by upcoming campaign changes, supposed to get corrected. Except that only part of the books were restored, and we never received an explanation why this fell short halfway through.
So, no, my level of confidence that this update will not further hurt F2P players is next to zero. I’d even go as far as to suspect that the patch notes went missing because they didn’t tell a happy enough story, even when glossed up. Bad news is something we’ve traditionally been left to discover on our own. But who knows, there’s always the chance to get positively surprised.
I really wish we could see what’s coming next on the locked reward trackers.
Why can’t we know from day one:
what is required for all three tiers?
what is rewarded for completing each tier?
If you want to plan to do them all without cramming at the end, you ought to know the totals…
Only way to do this in the PvP locked rewards is to use data that players themselves consolidated from a previous season and hope it’s the same for the next season.
You do not need to purchase the Pass, to unlock the above rewards - these are unlocked by completing the task itself, just like PvP Goals
The Campaign Pass track, has free rewards and Elite Pass/Elite+ Pass rewards of it’s own and they unlock from collecting Stars.. which you now will get during a Campaign, just from completing specific battles.
A) It’s about time they started making Campaign mythics better. A lot of the most recent ones (and this next one too) were terrible. Astaroth.. like.. really? I don’t see the appeal in elite pass+ if the mythic as a base is not worth investing in.
B) But then if Campaign mythics start being better (really low bar), then… this becomes pay 2 win.. right? surely no one is thinking that shiny keys are pay to advance faster?..
I’m actually rather surprised there isn’t any shiny mythic tokens in the Campaign Task rewards. Feels like an obvious missed opportunity for a Level 1 Shiny reward for a tier 3..
