Update 8.4 Guild Wars Reforged Patch Notes

Will Chrysantherax be replaced in PvP defence like Stellarix?

Why would it be replaced? It hasn’t even been 12 hours yet…

Because it’s not difficult to foresee it’ll have a similar issue to Stellarix. It does higher damage after all.

It’s important to know when setting dragon defences in GW.

Haven’t started PvP yet today, if Chrys is there, we’ll soon know.

There is a lot of him. Looks like everyone is replacing Stella with new one

Sounds like it’s going to unfair for newer players or anyone without one, so it should be replaced like Stellarix and Wand of Stars. Especially with GW coming soon.

When should we expect the same bandaid fix to be applied to Chrys?

Yup. This is gonna be the same issue. Hes every bit as strong as stellarix. Maybe not the self loop potential but still. Nuke.

Not surprising these devs wouldnt forsee that.

All dragonite dragons should be classified as Boss/Dragon, just like first set of gem dragons. That will make them counter-able.

To me, the issue is less “power” and more the other stuff enabling it to slaughter an enemy team that quickly without said enemy team being able to do very much about it.

The massive damage is problematic on defense, but the bigger deal is how often you’ll have to eat several of them in a row on account of the re-fill and extra turn. Prior to the last set of changes in the spoilers, it appeared that this new dragon would have the damage potential without the looping potential, leaving some possibility for mitigation and counter-defenses.

Now, like Beetrix, you’re sitting on a significant chance of an extra turn even before the resolution of the board after the spellcast. Plus the very real amount of mana generation.

I get power creep and vicious inflationary cycles; it’s not an uncommon thing in games that last this long and evolve the entire time. But it’s not a good thing. Alas, I don’t expect the developers to fix it for a variety of reasons.

Seconding this. I don’t think the issue is raw damage output, per se. There are ways to counter that - silence, mana drain, magic reduction, killing the problem troop as fast as possible, etc. For end-game players, a Stellarix cast doesn’t wipe out your team in one go (even on Blood Frenzy, I think? Might be wrong about that.) The bigger issue is the looping - once Stellarix goes, it’s unlikely to stop. It’s what made goblins or Queen Beetrix so powerful in the past, before we had much more powerful troops and classes like Elementalist to nullify them. The player just has to sit there and watch helplessly as the AI takes move after move, cast after cast, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

At least Stellarix takes out your team in a couple shots. Back in the day, those pesky goblins would have you unable to play for minutes on end before finally killing your team :grimacing:

If you are playing on XBOX series X and can’t toggle to the Reward or Medallion icons

Chrysantherax (at least on paper) appears to have less mana refill potential than Stellarix, though.

  • Chrysantherax’s board disruption relies on Skulls, which can be partially mitigated with troops like Zombie or Anubite Warrior, in the same way you might use a color converter to deal with color exploders like Leprechaun.
  • Even if there are sufficient Skulls to explode the whole 8x8 board, that’s a theoretical maximum of about 25 Mana (assorted colors) generation. (Assuming no special gems, e.g. Potion or Giant Gems)
  • Speaking of special gems, compare Stellarix’s creation of 3 each of Elemental and Umbral stars upon cast. If they all pop at once, that alone generates 18 Mana (in assorted colors) plus whatever else on the board gets cleared at the same time, which could mean maybe another 20 Mana (assorted colors).

I’m inclined to put Stella over Chrys for overall (total) Mana generation and stronger board disruption, but it will certainly be a long time before I can acquire Chrys myself to do some field tests with.

Playing on playstation, the same is happening here, just so you know.

The only instances I have found where Chrysantherax (I call him Cyrax) is better than Stellarix is where giant gems or dragon gems are present in the pvp central regions. This was due to the bonestorm from Diamantina and the cascades from those heroic gems. Stellarix could backfire with all the skulls and Chrysantherax has no issue.

I know those were special factors, but for 13 higher damage (for me), it feels like without the loop potential, it feels average because Wand of Stars can usually clean up Stella’s mess anyway.

Overall Cyrax has 2 main things going for it:

Nice elemental/Nexus synergy and can make use of Maraji Queen instead of Essencia
Can one shot explore 11 with enough magic kingdoms at 30 (I think you need 4) using Chrysantherax/wand of stars,sorcerer/leprechaun/myzmer using all of the magic bonuses.

Is there any time limit on purchasing the medallion? It won’t be too late by then?

Assuming its working as intended there, buy it before you start your battles after To War appears.

Maybe it was mentioned and I just didn’t see it but anyone notice a change with the valhawks appearance rate? I have had all three hawks appear in the first 3 regular pvp battles for several days in a row now. That can’t be just luck. It’s either a deliberate change or a bug. If it is a bug, I hope they don’t fix it cause this is so much better than how it worked before.

If you think it is a bug and don’t want them to fix it, why are you mentioning it???

I think the developers listened to the feedback. Especially since the desires of both sides coincided.
