Underspire refresh - It's a thumbs up from me!

Thanks devs for making my journey to the final boss every week much more interesting and exciting than the old slog. Since obtaining all of the Sentinels I have avoided ‘wasting’ torches on chest cells but now I’m liking the many different types of chests along my route which have to be played and may have torches and often have trinkets. I especially like the one which reveals a swathe of cells further on.
I have always enjoyed Underspire but now, for me, it’s even better :+1:

Id have to agree. The Underspire changes are a win in the right direction. To date I see no negative to the changes

Same for me - it’s definitely more interesting and rewarding to play. I got a purple book from one of the new treasure rooms so I’m sold! :star_struck:

It’s also a little faster to play because some of the rooms are now giving away free things which means a few less battles to go through. To be fair it is balanced out with the trap rooms that can take longer to get through especially if you end up entangled etc. but I feel that overall it is still a bit faster and less gems to get through.

Thanks for making this even more rewarding!

The trap gems benefitting the enemy all the time, even if the player explodes or destroys them, is going to make the later stages of Underspire more difficult. It’s difficult for some kingdoms to defeat level 200+ enemies (we have rope dart and Ubastet this week, so no problem), but I already experienced how freeze and entangle trap gems can ruin your day.

If players destroy or explode the trap gems on the board during their turn, it should affect the enemy, not yourself. It’s like we are tip-toeing on ice, have to take off lightning strike, and make other decisions that make the fight more difficult than it needs to be.

I get your point, especially for certain restrictions and for new players (though I’d argue new players have better things to do than grind late-stage Underspire). I don’t mind the difficulty, though. There are so few areas of the game where a late-game player has a notable chance to lose a battle, namely Guild Wars, PvP, and pure delves. The majority of the game is mindless, easy wins.

While that’s not necessarily a problem, I’m not opposed to a little more challenge to spice things up here and there. Allowing trap gems to affect the enemy would trivialize the battles, as the player is always smarter than the AI when it comes to board control.

Yeah, it’s just that some kingdoms are going to really struggle with the 5th and final section of Underspire. Over time, kingdoms will become more developed with Immortals and dragonite dragons, but if you have to use Grosh-Nok troops and trigger entangle and stun traps…you’re going to have a bad time.

Sure, that would be challenging, but frustrating as well. I probably would only grab my free imperial deeds from the 2nd area and skip the rest for tougher restrictions.

I like these Trap Gems for basically the same reason I really dont like the other Heroic Gems. I’ll also take these Trap Gem battles over the few normal battles that randomly spawn Web Gems constantly any day of the week.

Finished and just went back to clean up a few (new) treasure chests…so certainly worth uncovering everything

For some reason we mostly face the placeholder opponents in PvP now. Many battles there are mindless, easy wins since that change. Which makes even fewer places or reasons to challenge yourself.

As for underspire, this is not the update we asked for but I think it’s a good update. I don’t mind trap rooms being difficult. It’s also somewhat balanced by the treasure rooms being almost free wins.
