To propose another very simple and much more resilient approach, make all three battle options each offer a fixed amount of rewards, e.g. 1500 gold/35 VP on the left, 2000 gold/50 VP in the middle, 2500 gold/65 VP on the right. Then assign opponents to the slots based on whatever convoluted metrics the game internally works on, without adjusting the fixed rewards. To promote a region, offer a better fixed reward for those (e.g. an extra 500 gold/10 VP for the left/middle/right battle when playing a color restricted region).

For how longer will high level players be suffering form your team’s oversight or mistakes or incompetence or call is whatever you will - maybe even deliberate decision to screw those useless high level players over?

At 60 there was a 62. So unfortunately working as intended. :frowning:

Even though I still would get that on a regular basis, all the recent changes and dubious decisions let to me dropping from 70.000 VP to 10.000 VP in less than 2 weeks and I don’t even know if I’d do more than 5000 VP this week. Tendency falling …

What an amazing choice of VP scores for the battles.

Please, can we have an explanation, or at least some info whether this needs a client update, and how much longer we have to wait for any solution to this? So that we know what to expect and when/whether to expect a fix at all? I’m not even 2k yet (1726), and this is not a rare view :frowning:

Following up on this with the team.

How is that “streamlining stuff” moving along and when can we hope to expect to see some progress that is more than just promises of progress when cows come home? Surely, you must’ve thought through and analyzed what would be the effects of implementing matchmaking/point distribution in its current state and had a clear picture of how disastrously it would turn out, right?

Oh, and the more I look at whole bonus VP shenanigans, the more I dislike and am annoyed by that junk of a stupid system as currently implemented.

Hi - any chance you could give us a more specific timeline? Should we be expecting that this will get fixed in the next release? Before that? After that? What really ticks people off is not knowing when a fix will be coming. If you could ask again for an update, that would be much appreciated.

Hello. I see a lot of players wanting more specific information in regards to a fix and I think an estimation like a few months or 6 months would help a lot. While I’d like a shorter timeframe than this in terms of a fix, I respect honesty and believe the rest of the player-base would appreciate the response regardless of how they feel about it.

All we need is a rough idea and I understand this may not be viewed as top priority, but players need to know where on the list this issue is likely to be. Knowing if we’re waiting weeks or months would be greatly appreciated.

A couple possible problems with varying solutions.

  1. Matchmaking skews towards level 1400, even at high levels.
  2. Power is not linear, but what is it? Square root?
  3. Lower VP/Higher VP limits could be off.

As someone around level 1500, there is a significant difference between a level 1200 vs a level
1800, often 1 hit vs 3 hit. Higher level players also are more inclined to have Zuul or other cards that can lead to random losses or decreased vp, eg you get less vp if Zuul manages to fire. Matchmaking (1) seems to be the hardest to change well. If they do make a change, altering the VP values would probably be the easiest.

You probably haven’t been around for long yet. The way this usually plays out is that the Customer Experience Team won’t be seen anywhere near this topic again. They just redesigned PvP, their idea of customer service is to “take feedback into account” when PvP is up for the next redesign, in a couple of years from now.

Preamble: I am advocating for change, and think better suggestions as to how to balance vp make it more likely that such solutions will be implemented.

Part of the process is gauging how much of the community is affected and by how much. Judging by the battles I’ve been offered, It seems like PVP VP works for most people. Roughly 3% (1700-1900) may have some adverse affects to vp, and 2% (1900+) more serious effects. Further divide that into which of those players want to grind to compete in their brackets, generously 15% or so? So you’ve got a fraction of a percent who are upset due to the unfairness. Even then, the current PVP is better than the old one. Considering what part of the community has complained, I don’t know if it’s enough to move management to push for the changes. Maybe there’s some big spenders in there. Who knows.

The question you have to ask yourself: Why are players in those level ranges in the first place?

Answer: They are your most active players. Paying money won’t let you fast track the time spent on the game to level to that degree.

So how does that matter in any way?

Driving away your most active players is harmful to many categories of game metrics and most companies can’t keep a live service game going on goodwill and fair-weather daily login players.

While there’s no correlation between long term players and money spent, they’re also some of the most likely people to want to see a game stay alive: sunk time fallacy.

Then the next question: Does this negative experience actually matter?

That’s up to the Gems of War dev team on who they want to keep as their player base. All I know is that I’ve seen a lot of people leave throughout the years and guilds are struggling to recruit on my console. Less people, less opportunities to make money, right?

Maybe they’ve done a crazy good job that all of the spenders are staying and its the short term players leaving… yeah, I doubt that.

Honestly, I have no clue who this game is (re)designed for. This time commitment is nuts for younger people, is monetarily demanding for young adults, and yet has flashy graphics designed to attract the younger audience at the cost of having visual impairment issues for current players, especially the older generation. Yet most people I have spoken to lean to the older side of things.

Edit: And before people say you can play this for free!!, on console/pc, you’re still paying for electricity and on a phone, you’re doing wear and tear to your device that adds up.
