Streamline Mythic and Legendary Creation in Soulforge

OK. Soulforge is a mess, and we have to wait ages for mythics, and to a lessor extent for legendaries.
So, simple fix.

  1. We remove all the rotating troops from the soulforge. So, troops like Zuul’Goth stay, but the ones that change every week are gone.
  2. We add 2 new recipes to the soulforge.
    • “Mythic Summoning Stone” and “Legendary Summoning Stone” (or token or whatever name you prefer, but we already have summoning stones, so I’m sticking with the theme).
    • Mythic Summoning Stone costs 10 celestial traitstones + 20,000 souls + 4,000 diamonds, while Legendary Summoning Stone costs 4 celestial traitstones + 5,000 souls + 800 diamonds. Basically, the same as it now costs to craft one of the rotating troops.
    • The Mythic Summoning Stone and Legendary Summoning Stone are currency that is added to your in-game wallet, ready to be used when you choose.
  3. We add an option in the collection menu, when selecting any mythic or legendary you own or don’t own, to buy 1 copy with a summoning stone.
    • Selecting this will create a pop-up telling you how many summoning stones you have available and asking if you’re sure you want to buy this troop.
    • Agreeing to the purchase would remove one summoning stone of the appropriate type and craft a copy of the selected troop.
    • Special troops which would not be able to use the summoning stones, like Zuul’Goth and the current campaign/PvP mythics, will have a different pop-up stating the summoning stone does not work for this troop, and state the reason. If the troop is not yet available but will be from a certain date, it displays a countdown to when you can use the stone to summon a copy.
  4. (OPTIONAL) We add 2 recipes in the soulforge, trading the mythic summoning stone for a random mythic troop or legendary stone for a random legendary troop, rather than a targeted one, much like the existing summoning stones. That way players can craft specific or random mythics and legendaries

The upshot of this is that we no longer have to worry about troops being added to the soulforge (whenever an eligible troop is added to the game, it would be craftable immediately or state how long until it is craftable then become craftable immediately), how long rotations are, or how long before a troop becomes craftable (it’s clearly shown when selecting that troop).
The reality is that there’s no good reason we still need to wait for troops to cycle round in the soulforge. It’s just added time-gating to access a troop, when time-gating exists on the resources needed to craft that troop.
Players can wait months for a troop that’s been in the game for years to cycle back around, if they miss it, instead of just spending their currency immediately on that old troop like they would be able to this way.
Players can see how long before a new troop is craftable and decide to spend to get it early if they wish (You see you’ll have to wait 12 months, you might buy it instead, for example).
And players can easily buy a specific troop from the list of mythics, rather than having to search for it in the soulforge every week until it appears.

Basically, it’s much easier for developers (aside from the added work of making the change), and way better for players. Win-win.

You usually write good stuff.
Didn’t read all your post sorry

I do have one question, IV 70000 diamonds.
Saved for Mythics.
I don’t agree, with yet another currency in-game.
Summoning stones nope, no thank you.

We already have more currencies, than the united nations.
And IV got the diamonds for crafting.
The rules shouldn’t be changed midway.
Unless we’re sent a lot of free said stones in the mail.

Thanks for the idea tho.

You craft one stone and spend it on one mythic, as compared to waiting 6 months then crafting that same mythic.
I agree we have way too many currencies, but I’d rather remove some old ones that aren’t useful, and add ones that make the game better. To me, being able to craft a mythic without having to wait for the rotation is worth having one more currency.

Midway to what? Rules are changing in the game all the time. If rules never change, nothing gets better. I mean, nothing gets worse either, I know, but if something improves the game it shouldn’t be blocked from being changed just because it wasn’t already like that.

Why would you get any free? You already have 70,000 diamonds. Lol. That’s enough for at least 17 stones, so you can make 17 mythics. Just like you can craft that many right now.

Thanks for the feedback, anyway.

I like the idea in general but don’t see the reason for the summoning stones. Why not just make them craftable with the resources themselves? Why the extra step of craft stone → craft mythic instead of just craft mythic?

Crafting the troops with the resources directly means no more currencies added. It also adds more flexibility on what can be crafted. Crafting epics? Crafting a mythic early but at an increased cost? There’s a lot more possibilities if you craft them with the resources directly in the collection menu.

A few different possibilities:

  1. Easier to safeguard accidental crafting. You’d have to commit to crafting this stone. “Whoops I dropped my controller and accidentally crafted 20x Gaards Avatar with all my diamonds.” - see GaPs before 4x limit

  2. Easier to monetize. Oh, buy this summoning crystal in a summer flash event for $49.99! They’d never sell 4,000 diamonds directly, incase it can get used for other functions in the future. Practical reason: Path of Glory II/Path to Power II/Growth Pack II can be upgraded from Random mythic to selectable Mythic for newer players as a catch up mechanic. For a 10 year old game.

  3. Easier to quantify: Oh, I have 5 Summoning Stones vs oh I have, 20,000 Diamonds

  4. Might be easier to program. They might not have the infrastructure to use diamonds as an unlocking resource directly in the troop menu, but something like orbs already exists to unlock certain features.

Don’t worry, I’m sick of the billion new currencies they keep putting out despite a bunch of other players insisting Gems of War put out more because its a Gacha game!11!, but this is one of those times where it’d be somewhat logical.

Now if it was a summoning stone to spin a roulette wheel for a 15% chance on a Tuesday to unlock a Mythic starting with the letter T, then I’d have problems with it.

Yeah, all good reasons, thanks.
I did think of just having them be buyable from the menu, but having it be something you have to craft has advantages and fits better with other stuff in the game. I’m not against crafting something, just that the thing being crafted could be simplified, rather than having several different recipes each week that need to be swapped and have a cycle and a pool that must be updated regularly. Just craft a fixed item that never changes, and code the troops to be buyable with that item or have a countdown to being buyable with that item.

Yeah, totally agree. Any RNG is totally against what I was thinking and needs to be avoided.
