Soulforge Troop Updates

Making a (new) new thread for now, so one day when my support systems are updated, the ultimate goal is to be able to just tell you all, what troops are in there for the week or over the next X amount of weeks.

TLDR: Kukulkan and Ala Al-Din are in the current Soulforge pool.
And no ETA of when or if my QOLs mentioned below will be implemented.

How does the Soulforge rotation work?

For example:

  • In the Season of Ice, the troop “Kukulkan” was available.
  • At the end of the Season, this troop is released into the list of troops that can be pulled for the next Soulforge pool.
  • Because there is a current Soulforge pool active, they wait on the Soulforge list.
  • The current Soulforge pool empties and grabs all the troops again. Now including any that were added (such as the PvP troops or Campaign troops)
  • “Kukulkan”is now in the current Soulforge pool.. it’s just a matter of waiting for it to appear in the Soulforge.
  • After some time, “Kukulkan” appears in the Soulforge and then the following week is removed from the Soulforge and the pool.

Why is the rotation so slow?

There are so many troops.
While I have passed on a suggestion to consider updating the Soulforge rotation, so new Troops can be added to the pool faster without waiting to need to cycle through ALL OF THEM.

I also suggested PvP troops should have their own slot, with their own pool, so they aren’t just added to the hundreds of existing normal troops.

The coding for the Soulforge is old, and the programmer who created it no longer works at the studio.
Now, a different dev has to go in and work backwards to understand how it is currently programmed, before being able to find a way to make changes, without then breaking everything they didn’t create in the first place.

When will we see these changes?

I don’t know, to be totally honest.
It relies on a dev taking time they don’t already have much of to update the support tool I use, as well as basically reprogramming a chunk of that system - depending on what changes are actually made.
That doesn’t even include the Soulforge data being different on Switch, because Switch got the Soulforge later than all the other platforms.

Anything else?

Yeah, as I explained, it is a different dev who was looking at this data for me and Gman than the one who created the Soulforge data.
Which is why there was a miscommunication and misunderstanding of how the Soulforge pool works.
Human error mixed with a lack of information left by the previous programmer.

While it can indeed be tricky to decode ancient code, it should be quite safe to spot the snippet that adds 4 troops weekly, and modify that number to e.g. 8 per week, without touching much of the rest.

But yes, caution is preferred to avoid breaking stuff..

..and thanks as always for the communication and transparency.

Thanks for the clarification Jeto! You’re amazing!

It really needs to be more than 4 per week, given the sheer size of the rotation now.

Someone in the other thread said it’s 192 eligible currently.
But I’ll add a bit of math to it as I think it wasn’t mentioned there or here.

192 mythics take (192/4) take 48 weeks to cycle through at the current rate and how the forge is set up.
Within 48 weeks we also surpass a little bit more than (48/11) 4 cycles of both PVP and campaign seasons.
And while 48 weeks are 11 months, we also get another 11 monthly mythics along with aforementioned 8 PvP and campaign ones, effectively extending the next cycle to 211 and thus 52 weeks, or excactly a year.

129 + any that will appear for the first time but are not there on the “unseen this cycle” list.
So, not that bad… yet.

Let me quote myself from that very thread:

What if…

  • there was no more rotation
  • all the mythics in the soulforge were craftable anytime
  • and we had a troop search/filter for the soulforge to make it sane?

I think that solution would age much better than any suggestions I’ve seen.

Presently, new players have to climb Mythic Everest anyhow, and old players are just waiting for months and the wait will get longer as time goes on.

Will we be seeing the PvP Legendaries, such as The Crag Maw and Treviamus in the Soulforge? Ik it may seem like a redundant question to ask, but some of us haven’t gotten those troops.

Yep the campaign mythics are in there, but I’m holding off on adding the PvP mythics to the list until I see them with my own eyes! :joy:

P.S. Thanks for the new name! Lol
