To be honest, even though I voted “no” in the poll I was pretty convinced by the arguments people made over the course of the thread. I just wrote what I did because it was a point that I didn’t remember coming up yet.
I agree that dropping the bottom one (two at most) players’ scores gives a buffer against real life intruding on the game. I am just not completely convinced it’s necessary. Of course, the devs have vastly more data and analysis tools than I do, so presumably they’ll make a more informed decision than my “ehhhhhhhhhhh”.
Fake edit: would still prefer if the other guilds ahead of us condensed into 80-90 or so, so my guild could make it into the top 99 while still doing the same amount of work we’re currently doing.
Real edit: in the interest of full disclosure, dropping the lowest three players’ scores at the end of each week would still leave my guild with 10 or so zeroes on our roster. But we are definitely not a guild that wants to be the best that ever was. (Still want to catch 'em all, though!)
Overall, the point system scales each guild accordingly, so that the following weeks will have guilds versing only those that are equal to themselves.
Those that have 30 active members will verse those guilds similar; casual and less active guilds will be paired together also.
Wins against others don’t really achieve a great deal, it’s the participation and points from it that counts. So I just can’t see why those that inforce total guild participation should have points taken away from their tally, just to be closer to a guild that lets a few people have a ‘break’ each week.
Why do you assume that every guild has 30 active members? Some weeks you will have 30 active players, some weeks not. This week, we (Vn4ever) have one inactive player, yet we manage to be at #5 overall.
This is a competitive game mode, and I want every performance to count regardless the amount of guild members. Or else we can just give free lollipops to everyone and make it as pointless as the PvP leaderboard.
I agree. Part of the challenge is trying to get everyone to participate. Why call it Guild Wars, if your not going to let all 30 members compete. We have been playing minus at least 1 person the last 2 weeks, but thats ok. Why take away from the guilds that do get a majority of their players playing? It would really limit the fun if you made it where part of the guild didnt have to, or couldnt compete. I think if you have 30 players playing you should have an advantage over someone who only has 25 playing GW. Isnt that the whole idea about moving up and down in brackets? Not to make it easier for everyone.
But that is just it, as someone said there are three kinds (possibly more) of guilds out here. Not everyone is hogwild competitive.
I know I have been having a hard time balancing GW and my desire to play to have some fun and hang out with folks.
Just before GW started as we were ramping up to get all 6 statues completed each week, we had a serious guild disagreement on what to do and how to do it. We lost 4 people before a decision was made, and then lost another 3. Coming into GW, we’ve lost 2 more folks and one is on the fence.
Not everyone is about Leaderboards here (that’s why there are over 50k in ranks for PVP or more - I am actually happy I am rank 14547 this week, up by almost 20k from last week.
But I’m in the bottom with GW with a lots of us who feel like it’s starting to become a chore.
I still think this needs to have something for the casual guild…and right now I see nothing for them really
I’m not sure GW needs something for the casual guilds beyond what it already offers (free troop(s), gold, and gems just for signing up). GW was designed as a competitive mode, and the payout structure reflects that. I am sure that there are additional game modes in the works, and some of them will hopefully appeal to players like me who treat GoW as a relaxation opportunity. (I still do GW, but after that first week I don’t stress about going 5-0 with a monocolor team.)
The 3 bottom scores should not count. This will help with lower level players not getting kicked from higher ranking guilds and will allow for RL situations to not hurt the guild’s results. A lot of guilds have been disrupted as a result of GW’s pressures and this change would alleviate some of that strain.
GW isn’t really competitive. If you’re not in the top 10, it really doesn’t matter what you do. You get the same stuff. 50 guild seals isn’t even really worth the effort to try to win the daily thing and the xp boost is a big ball of meh.
Really all GW has accomplished is that I had to leave a guild that does 20+ Legendary tasks a week.
