[reported] Dud Pet Gnome drops no food, doesn't trigger rescue

What you were expecting to happen, and what actually happened:
Pet Gnome should drop pet food and trigger pet rescue. It did neither of those things.

How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
First PvP battle after triggering a pet rescue + doing the rescue + not playing for an hour until the rescue is over

Steps to make it happen again
See above. Happened thrice this weekend when the above conditions were met, which is why I recorded the third instance upon noticing the pattern.

Nice catch! Same thing happened to me as well. No pet food and no pet rescue after waiting the hour.

Was it the first battle back in PvP in the same region as you were before you did the pet rescue?

I’m wondering if we can avoid this by either changing the region or ignoring the pet gnome on the first battle back in PvP.

Yes, same region, same attacking team..

..although in their case there was a Rescue still running, and one of the Gnomes was legit since they received 2 pet food.

Another hour went by, another test: this time with a cliffy error, and upon restart a legit pet gnome:

Seems to happen when you immediately “teleport” from pvp to rescue the pet via the popup dialog, then when you return to pvp, any first battle has a “fake” pet gnome

FWIW: it’s still happening now that Gnome Weekend has ended.

Yeah, it seems it’s the same team too, so long as you don’t change regions.

But if you don’t “teleport” as you said, go back out to the main world and select the pet battle from the menus, it doesn’t do it?

I had a pet gnome pop up in a citadel battle, won the battle and no pet rescue selection, nor was a pet rescue already ongoing.

Since then I ignore that popup menu, and do Pet rescue the regular way with no issues, no phantom gnomes show up

Reported this to the team a little while back but I have yet to get an update on it. Will try and chase it up next week as I dont think I will get a chance today

In case another, longer video will help. First fight initiates the gnome, then I do a few pet battles, then I go back to PVP and get the exact same enemy fight.

As of 9.3, if the pet gnome is triggered during your first valhawk battle, the dud pet gnome battle will include 2 valhawks (with 4 sigils dropped).

This Dud Gnome issue sporadically throws a CLIFFY: happened twice in the past 24 hours.

This appears to be unrelated to gnomes, and about your opponent, or the region you are fighting them in.
If you pick a different opponent, and avoid whoever you had picked, you should be fine.

The reason I brought it up is because for the past months, the only CLIFFY errors I’ve received are before a dud gnome battle.

I’ve finally managed to stop myself from clicking it away on time to get a SS, after failing at it yesterday again.

Have not had the cliffy error, but just had the Fake Gnome issue.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Find a pet gnome, defeat it, trigger a pet rescue, choose a pet (this latest instance was Alebrije)
2. When the pop-up immediately appears to rescue the pet, click on rescue
3. Complete the 8 pet battles, collect reward, go back into PvP
4. Choose a battle, a pet gnome battlecrashes into the battle, defeat the opponent
5. Rewards screen includes no white pet food at all.
