Looks like it used the same opponent lineup in the pre battle screen, as the one I had defeated to get the original Pet Gnome.
ill pass it onto the team to look into further, the error is the same, its specific to the opponent despite being a different player. Leave it with me, no further CLIFFY errors needed for now, as they are the same

It looks like immediately detouring to pet rescue doesn’t properly clear the PvP battle on server side. You get it handed out again the next time, since you’ve already completed it you run into a cliffy. This is likely somewhat similar to explore battles when you end up entering the same side quest battle twice due to map corruption.
