There’s no denying that we have waaaay too many guilds, but I don’t think restricting guild creation to players with more resources is the answer.
Players want to start their own guild because they want to have control, because they don’t want to be someone else’s “employee” with the constant veiled threat of being “fired” if you don’t please the boss. OR maybe they wanna make sure their boss don’t jump ship. But it is about control.
But before of thinking of a solution to the too many guilds “problem”, what is the main issue here?
- Too hard to recruit? But would you really recruit players who join such guilds? Maybe high requirements are high =p
- Name is being used by another guild? I don’t think that’s a major problem, though, since it’s just cosmetics.
But help me out here, maybe I’m missing something else.
Also, do we have some real statistic on the avg level of ppl creating guilds right now? That could help have a better idea of what requirements would help you guys achieve what you want.

Maybe instead of raising the price from 25k to 1 m there should be a requirement standard instead. You have to complete certain task to actually be a guild “MASTER”. Say for example; have a win streak of XXX; you must have at least XX mystic cards in your deck; you must be level XXX. If you can forefill those requirements then you have EARNED the right to be a GUILD MASTER.
Some thoughts on guilds and keeping them running :
-
Impose a yearly activity requirement that is averaged from the top 1,000 guilds then divided by 2. Any guild under this mark will then be flagged for deletion.

A guild is not meant to be cheap to start. In most games I’ve played they have huge costs to them. Not always reasonable. So its silly to me to consider reasonable an aspect of guild creation. As such I think it needs to maintain a high cost along with possibly using gems as well.

To create a guild it should restrict the GL to having played for at least 6 months, and to have earned x amount of trophies. (possibly also require them to be a certain level)

A guild will enter deletion status if not one member has logged in within 90 days. With 30 members 1 login within 90 days should be common.
sidenote : I’ve always been annoyed at the names for a guild leader. Even though they have a few different names. The majority are male centered and not unisex. (I would even prefer to name my own ranks, its a nice custom feel when doing that)

I’m all for upping the cost. There are too many dead guilds, and as someone who ended up in one for a couple months when i started, i feel for the new players who do too. Why didn’t i go in global then? That’s usual response. Because i didn’t even know how for weeks, i was awful, i just got my xbox, i knew nothing. I’ve seen people ignore or make fun of new players a lot in global now, so with my anxiety it would not have been a good experience. I also think there should be a time limit between creating new guilds. I’ve seen a notorious hopper create and abandon three guilds in a two week period in between bouncing around established guilds. Again, i feel for those who see it on the list and get stuck there.
