I’m really pleasantly surprised by this update, it was pretty frustrating to have all my kingdom upgrades stuck behind books of deeds and elite level. Love the change to make the tasks level up separately so you can still progress.
Feels a bit weird to fill the screen with the quest path for every kingdom, when I did them all so long ago, and I can’t interact with them anymore. But overall feeling really good about 9.2.
I can’t speak for others but that’s absolutely where my frustration came in. I literally spent deeds and books upgrading what kingdoms I could to max them to 20/30 back on May 2; that was the last time I updated my Google Sheets for this game. Before the announcement and even before the spoiler thread starting speculating about the update.
I don’t mind all the books/deeds I spent months ago or years ago, because I’ve benefited from those for a long time. It feels much different with everything I spent recently, because it’s been such a short time. This is an edge case, but in the end, it feels bad and feels like it was punishing me for deciding to play the game as intended.
I don’t know how they could have handled it differently, because even if they announced it early, someone else would have upgraded just before that early announcement too. A less generous of a conversion would have been the most fair and we wouldn’t know any better if that was the only option ever presented. It’s easy to want what we have now, because we know it’s more generous.
Is there any way to see what our stats were before the update? I completely forgot to screenshot it beforehand. Also I don’t want to clog up the ticket system needlessly.
So, they WERE penalised. One was generous, the other wasn’t. If you fell into the one that wasn’t, you were penalised.
We can go back and forth all day about fair vs generous. The point is one was better than the other, so the other was being penalised in comparison. That’s what I’m saying.
NO. What are you talking about? There’s at least one other solution, which is for them to be equally generous across the board. There’s no penalty for having upgraded, if they were generous to everyone.
Exactly. You see the point. You got penalised for spending rather than stockpiling.
I’m not saying you lost anything. Nobody snuck into your account and pinched your deeds. But you got given less than you would have if you hadn’t spent the books/deeds. You got penalised for spending them.
That’s fair. I think a lot of players feel the same. Stuff they upgraded long ago isn’t an issue, but recent spending leaves them frustrated.
I don’t understand. How does lowering the higher value make it “the most fair”?
Making the two values the same would be the most fair, but changing either one would have the same result. If I have two piles of wood, one 50cm high and one 40cm high, and I want them to be the same height, I can make the higher one shorter and both will be 40cm, sure. But I can also make the shorter one taller, and both will be 50cm. Either way, they’re both the same height.
I don’t get why several people are treating this like the only options are unfairness or less resources. We can have fairness and the same amount of generosity.
Hmmmm. Things seem solid. I feel I lost a bit, but perhaps gained more. At least my orbs mean more now, and as an end player I have plenty. Still feel ‘burned’ by the server reset, but considering the massive amount of time and effort this update must have been taking up … feel a tad bit more forgiving. Upgrading troops/weapons under the new system is a pain, but need those levels. I am giving this update a tentative ‘thumbs up’ … until the reset. (Please no.)
Overall, I feel pretty good about this update. Simplifying kingdom progression is a win. I love that it’s open ended. I also appreciate the way you can’t just ignore everything but certain kingdoms.
My only concern (that I’m honestly not all that concerned about) is that it kind of makes pvp pointless? Wrong word. Unnecessary? Better word. Not a terrible thing for me, personally, because I can use more free time. Is it good for the mode or the overall game? We shall see.
Just rised up 1 or 2 kingdoms while knowing it would be wise to spare some books but don’t bother anyway. It’s a huge boost in a progress and i just don’t understand this “it’s not fair” thing.
its ok the changes, but why would we want to do pvp anymore b/c there purple crystals or even rainbow crystals in pvp shop b/c you took away books and imperial deeds, that we could of bought them in pvp shop to level up our kingdoms … so why would we want to do pvp at all and earn so many gold marks for no chance at the crystals needed to help level up kingdoms
Troops, dragonite, shiny keys, pets (if not owned) or just stockpile them waiting for the best. We have no possibility to earn books in so much quantity before pvp shop, maybe we just need to wait a year or so after a release
Two small negatives: Mydnight having a non-whole-100s xp and the inexplicable Kingdom Map that is a waste of space/interface once the quest is done and we just want to Explore.
Aside from that, this update (on the heels of Astral Spire update) has been an unexpected positive shift away from the semi-incessant monetising and/or anti-player updates we saw in the past few years, since somewhere around the time Epic Tasks were introduced (GaP and Underspire aside).
I have somewhat mixed feelings about this update at least from an aesthetic perspective. I will really miss seeing those various colored stars under the kingdom artwork. It was lots of fun seeing the kingdom star colors change as I leveled up my kingdom’s power levels including getting that last ‘gap’ star when leveling up beyond 9, 14, 19, 24, and 29 respectively and ‘completing’ the star colors.
Seeing those stars now gone makes the kingdoms look ‘naked’ and missing artwork showcasing the power, time, and effort put into them. I loved seeing five cyan stars (level 30) under Glacial Peaks, Stormheim, Karakoth, Wild Plains, and Zhulkari respectively. I’m not currently impressed by how the map looks without these stars and hope they’ll add some aesthetically pleasing ‘banners’ or ‘logos’ emphasizing the kingdom prestige levels.
That said, I’m actually really liking this new update in that it removes the unbearable grind of trying to get the various deeds and ‘book deeds’ and honestly, I’m glad that those have been retired and I can level my kingdoms using this new system. It really started to get maddening when I had so many kingdoms stuck at level 16, and never getting beyond power 26 because of such an enormous shortage of deed books and the rarity of the resources need to craft them and Imperial Deeds. It was really depressing seeing so many kingdoms at level 16, and I had ZERO red deed books to level them up and now I’m glad that’s gone and replaced with worthy tasks that are still challenging and more level and ‘fair’ to complete.
And the ‘population’ is a nice addition to the kingdoms evolutions and hope they’ll add new systems like ‘roads’ to link them and increase their various tributes.
I will miss the ‘stars’ that were shown by the kingdoms when powering them up but aesthetics aside, I’m SO glad the ‘deed’ requirements are now gone and other means of powering up kingdoms has replaced it. Let’s hope the new crystals are worth working towards and not such an obscene grind to get.
