With the next Guild Wars event only a week away, and the Keep set up starting in a couple of days, I wanted to post a small update on some of the main issues affecting the event currently.
Also, no new bug report threads need to be made for anything that’s mentioned as not fixed - all these issues already have existing threads, and the team is already working on these issues.
Again, these are just the top issues, and not a complete, cohesive list of everything.
GW rewards were not being sent on the final day
A fix was released for this after the missing rewards were mailed out.
Sentinels displaying the Guild Keep spell & mana
Aiming to be resolved in 8.7
Yesterday’s War pop is incorrect
This should now be resolved
Guild activity crashing during GW
We will be gathering any new reports if it happens again, so we can check the backend data that’s triggering it. Some changes had been made but without it being on the live production server, we can’t 100% confirm.
Matchmaking in Guild Wars is causing repeat opponents
There is currently a fix being tested (like right now), so I am just waiting to get word on when it is live
Controller movement on the GW map is jank (my literal words)
Sometime after 8.7
Players who use a controller on PC or play on console; if you notice you can’t just press up to go to the next location, you can get to it, it’s not locked off, it’s just you may need to cycle around all the other locations until it gets back to the one you actually want to battle on. Example below of trying to get to the Warrior Tower
We are working to make the map movement in line with the PvP Region Map.
Guild leaders cannot kick some players
This is still being actively investigated (no further tickets or reports needed). We haven’t been able to reproduce it on our side, and when we copy the affected Guild leaders’ data, the player can be kicked without issue. Some Guild leaders have seen this already resolve itself, but a fix is unlikely before Guild Wars begins.
Anything I have mentioned that has been resolved, we will still have eyes on it in case that is not the case. If something marks as resolved is actually still broken, please post a comment in their existing thread.
Thank you for the update Jeto, but is it possible for the guild permission: “Guild Wars Admin Access” to be for Guild Leaders only? (Choosing the keep, managing defenses, etc.)
Having too many people change guild war settings causes too much chaos, and our guild had to “demote” people because of this. I don’t know if it’s too late to change this, but it would be great if this feature was added in 8.7.
The top issue is no scoreboard, no way to see who’s playing and who’s not. This is the most basic fundamental mechanic that the entire event revolves around.
I posted this after first GW. On the release of guild wars, there were two posts that suggested that you would be improving guild wars and listening to feedback. The info given is mostly about fixing issues created post beta.
The whole point of guild wars is currently lost with this iteration. I cannot even tell if one of my guildees is even playing, let alone know how they did or where they battled. There was a lot of information released to try and show how to play, but as a GL will know, trying to summarise and get players to fully grasp it has been a real challenge.
And then it’s hollow. No idea if your defence won, no idea who played where, who even played, who scored more than who, who followed the sets/maps rules and on. It’s like a golf course without any greens. Great shot on the fairway, but did I beat par?
We absolutely are crying out for the interaction aspect we used to have with the old guild wars, the inter guild competition, action and struggles/successes. Then we will eventually get competition vs accurate peers, which was also a good thing about the old version, but none of that actually works without inter guild information. When Guild Wars is on, there is almost zero data that helps, when it’s done, there is nothing.
Can you tell us what they are doing about the mode itself and what suggestions they are looking at?
Preemptive communication on concerns the community is likely to have? Dang Jeto, you trying to make us miss you more when you’re off the forums?
Seriously though, you have been just what the community needed. So appreciate your continued dedication to the game and community. Might not always feel like it, and there will always be blatantly rude people here (though most of us are genuinely well-meaning!), but I think you’ve done wonders for the forum community “vibe” lately. Seems a lot less negative than a few months ago. I think a big part of that is how you’ve handled things here.
That’s not a bug, that is feedback and feedback that has already been shared.
None of this thread, is for feedback.
Which is why we have that behemoth of a thread. This feedback is being passed on and will start being implemented in some of the upcoming updates. But we did make it clear the updated Guild Wars was an ongoing project and would have rolling updates - I made sure that we didn’t imply in any way, that very soon after more updates would be focused on more GW updates.
At the earliest, I believe sometime after 8.8, GW updates are coming.
If it hasn’t been mentioned, when each update releases, we already have the next update locked in or sometimes 2 ahead locked in - so feedback, qols etc, will find their place in the updates after those. I am only referring to feedback/qols.
I don’t have information on the specifics currently, I have a nice huge spreadsheet of QOLs with one page specific to GW - a mix of things we didn’t get to implement from the beta and new feedback since going live, along with things we already wanted to implement but didn’t have the capacity to do so. A lot of this matches the feedback we saw in the beta - for example, more scoring/leaderboard information in-game.
Sokun and I are working on the first mega community survey as well! So we can get some data to put behind some of the QOLs and sentiment we share with the team. Keep an eye out for that in the next coming weeks, it will be so helpful if everyone can take some time to complete it.
Anyways, this thread has been derailed.. the intention for this thread is to give updates on the top Guild Wars bugs.
Any new GW feedback, please pop it in the existing thread.
We’ve reduced the amount of repeat match up as much as we can!
There are some buckets that currently don’t have enough Guilds to match against a different opponent for the whole weekend, so there will likely still be some repeat Guild opponents in some cases.
We appreciate what you do Jeto. Thanks for the reply.
I also purposefully posted here as lines of communication and all that, as it was open. I will after this revert to the feedback thread. You have to excuse - historically there has been nothing happening when issues are raised, players are a little wary of being ignored. Your involvement however gives more confidence.
The problem we have is, that’s what 6 months plus away and in the meantime many more players will leave. At no point did anyone (I know of) think it could be 4+ patches away that rudimentary requisites be added.
Now we get that you didn’t say that updates would come soon, but to be really honest we waited 17 months for the release and without being unkind, let’s just say it wasn’t ideal. Also a hell of a lot was said about it being a half-baked release (to be kind).
Historically in the Gems of War lifetime, almost nothing has been changed based on community feedback, even when blatantly egregious, unless it was bayonets and stuff - sunspear class change being something I recall. Of course nothing needs to be changed if the developers want, that’s always been how things work, but this time we seem to actually have had a realisation that the content needs to be reviewed. Once released we generally never see change, so a lot of players were optimistic that the communicated postings this time accepted there were issues and real changes would be installed, so players have by and large remained. Now it’s another 6 months, that is a really tough sell.
We had guild wars delayed for changes and basically bar being able to see who placed a defence, there aren’t any other than cosmetic interface issues fixed or minor bug adjustments.
We also get how it works with patches, we are versed in what happens. However I would have thought that releasing broken content is not a good look? Then passing it down the road to after 8.8 is not either.
Anyway I will revert to the feedback thread now. Thanks for your candid detail so far.
