Loving the game, but I lack direction

Thanks for that.

I jumped my dragon kingdom to level 10, as I’m using the Dragon guard class. I assume boosting up my other kingdoms would be beneficial even if I’m not actively using them?

Yes, there are bonus on your gem masteries, skill bonus (attack, magic, health, armor) to all your troops and hero alike and tribute chance (up to 10%) on all kingdoms, even if they are not your active home. After that all progression on your kingdom will require troops being upgraded, level, ascensions and traits, weapons, pets and class to unlock further benefits.

Oh wow, I had no idea the bonuses applied if they weren’t active kingdoms. Thanks for clearing that up!

Oh my goodness, raising through the PvP ranks is giving me a disgusting little thrill. I may as well quit straight out of any game I see the Highlord Dwarf in, but even so…

I see you are already facing some legendary troops that are outstanding (among their equals in rarity) in certain level ranges. King Highforge is really good even at higher levels specially because Dwarves are immune to many powerful effects.

When you get “stuck” without being able to beat some teams it’s not a reason to worry, it happens every now and then since you are still building up your strenght. Maybe you could consider another team to invest in order to beat, or at least have better odds against some compositions.

You migh want to make a team capable of “nuking” King Highforge, or other particular targets, with strong focused spells. Take a look at your collection and consider what you could use.

Yeah, that’s my next step. Got a decent influx of gold and keys now. Every loss like that puts another idea in my head for a team - I really, really want a decent mechanical deck but I don’t have the cards for it yet. Same with dwarf and undead.

It’s silly but I can’t bring myself to mix card types that feel wrong. I.e. Putting undead and divine together, or elf and dwarf.

Oh good lord, I’ve unlocked the soulforge and now everything is complex again. Every single time I think I’m getting a grip on the systems…

No need to worry with Soulforge for a while. You need to gather some resources before being able to use it to craft troops and other stuff. Essentially you should unlock the Dungeon (Completing Drifting Sands Quests) to unlock daily battles that will reward you with Jewels (each day is one different kind of jewel) Diamonds and Shards. These are the materials you need for the Soulforge (as well as some gems, traitstones and souls).

Each week the soulforge will rotate the mythic and legendary troops you can craft, if you have the resources that is, jewels can be used to craft weapons, like the ones we see in the Raid/Invasion shops and some special ones like the pieces to create the Dawnbringer.

Take your time and check each tab of the soulforge to see what is available, keep exploring the dungeons daily to accumulate resources/materials to eventually use the soulforge. If anything seems confusing just ask.

I would recommend using creatures like the banshee, because at your current level they generate souls which are essential to leveling your troops.
A banshee or warg may not fit your Dragon team, but it would certainly be helpful.

Thanks again, folks.

Do cards like the banshee really add that many souls? My main deck is all hovering around level 17, and costs are getting pretty big.

Well, creatures with necromancy increase the total amount of souls obtainable and the amount of souls gained by using spells and killed enemies by 50%. This effect seems to stack.
A decent soul team for your level would be banshee, warlock, warg, and maybe the acolyte. Both the banshee, and warg generate souls, and the Warlock and acolyte have necromancy. The warg’s spell also gains attack the more souls you collect and the banshee also turns blues to reds, which charges up the warg faster.

Oh hey, I have all those cards. Time to throw together another deck. Thanks for the suggestion!

Reached tier 1 in PVP, and got the trophy for it. Only then I did discover it was based purely on points, rather than performance, and I’m still something absurd like 16k in the overall rankings. My ego didn’t quite handle that one…

Also a little sad that the trinket for winning 250 battles as Dragonguard isn’t as impressive as I thought, but still.

Yeah, hopefully the class’ weapons are overdue for some rework and things will get better. Still, it’s better to have it without any need to use than otherwise. (Needing, but not having it.)

I’d change class but it feels wrong to use dragons without being a Dragonguard!

Working my way back up the PVP tiers, maxed out my current team in levels (until I can ascend them again), and am just slowly chipping away at the Kingdom Power related to dragons - just need to farm explore mode a bit, it seems, to get the materials I need.

The daily dungeons are a pain. I can scrape by the first, but the second tier one hammers me every time. Didn’t quite realise that they were all maxed out in terms of traits and so on.

My forge is maxed, but the RNG continues to be a pain and barely anything in my collection has active traits. This is making the Dungeons a bit more annoying than they could be.

Are still using only your dragons? They are a nice team if you like to keep the theme, but for the sake of getting rewards on the dungeons you could probably use another setup with a lesser cost in traitstones.

Have you considered?
3 Dwarven Gates (http://gowdb.com/troops/6396)
1 Tesla (http://gowdb.com/troops/6320)

I’m not sure if you have Tesla, but this teams works fine with only the traits for the gates, which requires a single Arcane Traitstone. As you use the Gates over and over they will eventually loop mana generation feeding Tesla and increasing her damage which is based on (25% of) the total armor of allies and enemies.

I think I might have her tucked away somewhere, funnily enough. I have a ton of new cards to wade through at some stage; due to guild and PvP success I’m sat on about 300 chests at the moment. Haven’t got around to opening them just yet. Fingers crossed!

And I’m slowly breaking my addiction to dragons. I’ve got a neat bunch of goblins thrown together:

I’m getting a decent amount of success with them. Trying to get a handle on all these extra turns I’m getting, ha.

If you get Princess Fizzbang Princess Fizzbang - Troops - Gems of War Database and Nobend Brothers Nobend Brothers - Troops - Gems of War Database they are good together when their spells explode gems among other effects. Queen Grapplepot https://gowdb.com/troops/6391 also is a great addition in the last spot. You wouldn’t need to use your hero in some battles like Dungeons since you would lose only a few Exp. points for Champion levels.

Thanks for those suggestions. I’ve seen them used against me, heh. Currently hoarding a few event keys just in case they come up in a, uh, event.

Speaking of which, if I do use my Hero what weapons would you currently suggest I aim for? Anu’s Scepter (no prizes for guessing what I thought that said at first…) and the Prismatic Orb are currently doing OK for me:

The scepter gives me a bit of board control, and uses up blue mana. By itself the effect isn’t amazing, but a good way to start or end a board cascade.

The orb is similar, but it’s colours mean I don’t “waste” excess mana, and it gives some survivability and a bit of synergy with the shaman’s colour summoning.

I’ve had something called the Deepstone suggested to me, but this seems to be tied to an event.
