Journey Event Scoring and Pathfinder Troop Rebalance information

The rebalance is fine and I don’t have any issues with looping in pvp or journey. However, using shiny keys and getting troop to level 2 is a must. And then creating a team that supports the looping, like the appropriate color storm and perhaps a hero with a class that explodes a gem whenever there is a 4 match. This week journey actually has 2 loop troops and they both compliment each other. I just finished all my sigils today and did my 86th battle with 10,965 points (bought tier 4) and the troop looped evenything with no issues on my last battle.

How can it have been not fun for you before? All you had to do was put the event troop in your team and not use it to achieve the same level of current ‘fun’.

My concern is about the terror ability. Today, I ran out of sigils and beat the current delve at floor 480. I went to the actual delve to use my 3 turns. The hoard is at 200. I beat floor 490, 500, and then made an attempt with a pf team. On my second battle, my bottom 2 troops got terror and ran away, so I started the last battle with just 2 strongman. Their juggler destroyed my top strongman troop and I was about to lose my last troop. I got a 3 match with skulls and terror at the same time. The skulls killed top troop and the other 3 were affected by terror. When it was the defence turn and they were about to win, all 3 troops ran away and I completed the delve at 100%. There should be a 1 turn delay with terror, just like death mark

I didn’t say it wasn’t fun before
I’m saying it’s more fun now.
I have to think and plan moves.
Sort of the difference between reading a comic and reading the wall street journal.
I’m trying to say, the game is still fun for everyone, losing 7 win button troops, hasn’t really made a big difference.
Not the sort of difference we’re I’m looking for a bridge to use.
Journey with amarok and diabolist has been fun for me.
More fun than Todd and spirit walker .

You assume to know what is fun for everybody? O… kay.

The difference has been enough to make at least 1 person quit. So I guess it depends where you are looking for your differences.

No, I’m saying it’s fun for me.
I’m also saying, it’s happened, it’s no use that we carry on complaining as it won’t get changed back.
There going of 18 months of data.
Also I’m sorry, but I never believe people quit, they like to say they will, but they don’t, the quit a guild and move , or take a week of.
But they don’t quit, especially the ones that want a big fanfare before going.
Real quitters do it without a word, they just leave.
Anyway il leave you to it, if you want to carry on the moaning, but sooner or later you will have to come to terms with it, that there changed forever.

Since I don’t have Amarok yet, Journey can’t be fun for me, although I started playing 7 years ago. But there’s still a few mythics, all 6 sentinels and 3 of the new dragons left, that I don’t own until today.

I do own all available pathfinder troops though, mostly fully medaled or even shiny if possible. They helped me a lot.

Especially after the last big update (was it 7.3?).

Back then several people in my guild left the game completely and uninstalled it, while others just started playing casually once in a while in their own guild of 1 instead of being online 24/7.

Those changes did a lot of damage and even caused health issues on many of my former mates. So I’d say those changes technically have been the worst.

But changing pathfinders was just unnecessary and malicious …

I won’t pretend a lot of people don’t say they’ll quit and not follow through. I’d even guess most people claiming to quit fall into that category and just dial back their play at most.

But this particular comment is such defeatest nonsense I don’t even know the words to properly describe just how much it is. People who quit without a word don’t care about anybody else’s experience and are fine with gaming getting worse as long as it doesn’t impact them. In an ideal world, everybody who quits a game due to perceived problems with the game would make clear their departure and why, so that developers can see what their players do or don’t like. To not give feedback is to just accept whatever garbage is thrown your way, and everyone else’s.

For example, I already sent my GM a message last night that I’m quitting after rollover. The whole game has gotten worse and worse over time, from Hoard Mimics to Journeys to more and more special currencies to spend real money on, more and more ridiculous grinds that show nothing but outright contempt for the playerbase and disrespect of their time, nerfing troops over nothing, actively punishing people for playing the game, it’s awful.

Gems of War has become possibly the worst F2P game I’ve ever played, and at minimum is top 3 worst in game economies for them.

result of the event: too many difficult battles, and not enough points for efforts. another event with a team of three troops. I can’t say anything good about this event

Guys, people leave the game because of the journey troops because they are newer players that relied on them and don’t have better options. Nerfing them makes everything much harder for them. The singular event journey isn’t going to matter that much to newer players, especially since they can’t hit the higher reward tiers anyway, even less so now.

This was the first event we didn’t complete in years but that’s ok. We got the books we needed and did not force folks to waste gems on the mode past that. If you remove the mandate of completing very hard to complete modes it’s fine. Books are the bottleneck so the other stuff you didn’t get can be gotten the very next event so not stressed about that.

Except for other guilds which never reach the higher rewards, it’s now even harder. Let’s keep in mind this was sold as “helping newer players”.

You paid the same to receive less rewards. And it doesn’t seem to stop there. Going by current game files, the next Journey will be even more punishing. Which means receiving even less rewards for the same payment, possibly not even reaching books. That doesn’t feel ok to me.

Actually no. I bought less tiers because I knew I would start losing battles most likely or at very least lose points so I decided to just go T3 and get the books. Some went T4 I think but no one went crazy. Why would they? I’m just not going to cry about rewards that are not the bottleneck. If the books were at the end I would be a little more annoyed. That’s not the case so I am not going to pretend to be more upset than I am

Hi team Gems of war,
Huge respect for your work.
I’m here to express my feelings and thoughts, because the last journey event has arisen a lot of them.
I understand the concept of nerfing, it is something that needs to be done in regards with the company’s strategy.
The first problem is that the nerf of journey troops sends mixed messages. On one hand, you write that you want to make these troops easier to counter to = most players are so dumb they don’t know how to deal freeze, silence or web to enemy teams. On another, you write that these troops have too much reliability = most players are so clever that they are bored with spamming these pathfinder troops’ cast in order to win.
What exactly do you have in mind? Are we dumb or not?
The second problem is that one thing is to nerf a troop, but a complete another - to kill it. Let’s compare pathfinder troops nerf with Gobtruffle nerf. The main difference here is that after a nerf Gobtruffle still can be used. Gobtruffle remains a good strong card. Why? Because though it charges not so fast and recharges not so reliably now, it is still reliable enough to achieve a result.
Comparing to Gobtruffle, Life & death, Skeleton key nerfs pathfinder troops are not nerfed - they are murdered. Now they are a useless pointless burden in a team and can only fulfil one role: being a meat shield. What a huge difference to what they used to be, isn’t it? Nerfed troops/weapons keep their characteristics in some sensible amount, but here everything is lost. The whole point of these troops existence is lost. Which is really sad.
The third problem, as I see it, is reliability. What’s wrong with it? Are we not in a game where we want to relax from real world stress and have fun with easier achievable results, pat ourselves on the back while we enjoy bright colours and beautiful art? Do we need just yet another burden or chore that reminds of reality? Yes, old-school games are all about hard efforts and a lot of time is spent in them to achieve a bit of result. But time changes, we live in a world when we need to achieve results quicker and more effectively with each passing day. There is no time to sit and drill the old-school routine. The pathfinder troops were this element of effectiveness which is necessary nowadays.
During the weeks I could use pathfinders I managed to do Epic trials or Underspire. Usually I don’t have time for these kinds of events.
Another aspect - pathfinder troops represented the strength of the pack principle which I find personally very “roleplay”. And roleplay features are not frequent in contemporary games. Pity to loose it.
The fourth problem is that the last journey event felt horrible. Previously it was boring, but passable event. With this nerf it is no longer so. Let’s not mention rewards, let’s keep them aside. What feeling of completion or satisfaction can I have if I have lost more than five times during the event week? Usually in other events I can loose once or twice if I’m extremely unlucky. But here on high levels the 75 miles team has beat me every time! It’s not that I don’t have good troops or my team suck. No, the reason is that 300+ lvl enemies have too much “meat” and deal too much damage to overcome them. This is unjust. Why in other events we have medals, boss-killers, tower-killers, but here we have nothing anymore? This feeling was devastating.
Do you know what would be a proper nerf for these troops? To remove abundance, but keep stability.
Greater mana cost for sure, even up to 18-19 is possible. Ratio would be x2 in the default state, but x3 in shiny.
Then it will be a nerfed troop.
Of course, it will need help with fast start, appropriate storm and maybe generators from time to time to refill it, but it is still going to be realistic enough to use and enjoy it.
Please, correct this nerf to be a nerf and not a troop kill.
Warmest regards.

After my last battle, I had to post. I’m seeing plenty of Egris in the Yellow, Suncrest, Stryx PVP areas. In my last battle I went up against a Seekra, empowered converters, Death Knell elementalist team. I managed to stop them from a free turn the first round, but Seekra managed to power up and began casting. I saw the loop starting, and was resigned to a defeat and a 2 min break. And then you know what? The loop STOPPED! After 3 casts, I was given a turn. Luckily my purple troop was not one of the 2 hit by the elementalist, and I was able to come back and win! Mind blown.

The troops are still decent on offense, but not unstoppable on defense. There’s plenty of people using them. I still could have lost. Yes, it sucks that people got used to using them when they were more powerful. This change has been very unpopular, and devs, you did the right thing with the pathfinder rebalance.

Still think Journey could be less of a slog. I’d like to see a journey troop that is a support booster rather than a lead offense.

Random generated teams, means absolutely nothing.

As for them trying to loop you - you were unlucky, my condolences.
As far as I’ve seem - they don’t. Heck, Quetzalma loops more often than Egris (as in - not a single cast that I saw looped) now, in my experience.

I had the same thing happen with a Seekra team in Central Spire, a team that was optimised for the loop, not 4 random troops thrown together - and the loop stopped after 4 casts, so I could take over and win. It felt really good to win.

In my very first comment about the nerf I wrote that the nerf might be an overkill - and I still stand by it… if the devs want to keep the nerf at the current level, then Journey needs changes quickly, like, yesterday. Lowering reward thresholds, further reducing battle difficulty, increasing the number of turns allowed from 10 to at least 15 if not 20 before losing miles - all 3 together would make a horrible slog and grind event - a fun one. This is what we are here for, right? Fun events?

I had a couple of seekra teams in central yesterday aswell.
With heros, so not random.
They were using , rope dart and L&D
And they still looped a couple of times.
